How to choose original Löwe secateurs

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have been told to buy a Löwe, and the amazon.co.uk results will not stay on one brand. Original Löwe secateurs here are the five hand pruners from Gebr. Schröder in Flintbek in the [Löwe secateurs comparison](/hub/garden-tree-and-hedge-shears/loewe-secateurs): the 1.104, 5.107, 11.107, 14.104, and 15.107. A mitre cutter, an 80 cm lopper, and other-brand bypasses are not this tool. Decide by the name on the listing, then the wood, then whether the handles open far enough. The main table ran from £43.54 to £72.65. Peter F. read those listings and the maker’s English catalogue, with no lab cut. What counts as a Löwe secateur

Start with the words Original LÖWE, not a line that only says German steel or German technique. The five models above are one-handed pruners. The 22.080 lopper, listed at £139.99 and about 80 cm long, is a different tool. Non-brand bypasses between £12.99 and £34.99 were removed for the same reason. If the title never prints Original LÖWE, treat it as another product. The 1.104 bullets say the tool is made in Germany. That sentence belongs to that page, not to every ASIN. Dan Cooper Garden sells a 1.104 at £46 and calls the steel stainless, while the amazon.co.uk field says carbon steel. Those two shelves do not average into one alloy.

Handle code and stated cut

The 2022 English catalogue treats the ending as a handle shape, not as a quality grade. A .104 is the standard handle: on the 1.104, medium to large hands and a stated 22 mm. A .107 is the inward-curved handle: on the 5.107, extra-small hands and 16 mm. The amazon title for the 1.104 says large hands, the catalogue says medium to large, and the bullets mention a small opening. You cannot hold all three at once. If your hand is extra-small, use Löwe secateurs for small hands. The 11.107 and the 14.104 also print 22 mm. Only the 5.107 prints 16 mm.

Anvil, bypass, or the mixed wording

The maker’s FAQ puts anvil secateurs on harder, thicker wood and bypass secateurs on thin green fibrous growth. The 1.104 is the ambidextrous anvil, with carbon steel, plastic handles, and a one-hand latch. The 11.107 is a right-hand bypass for soft wood, flowers, and fresh growth to 22 mm, with a juice groove and a stainless spring, and the bullets do not mention a latch. The 14.104 is the other right-hand bypass, about 180 g, with double buffers. There is no left-handed bypass in the range. If you cut with your left hand, the anvil models are the ones the FAQ says suit both hands. The 5.107 bullets describe an anvil for very small hands and print a two-year guarantee, while the blade-type field says bypass. The 15.107 claims anvil plus bypass geometry and also prints two years. A mixed sentence is not a third mechanism while the bullets and the specification block tell different stories.

What to do when the listing disagrees with itself

Three clashes are large enough to change the buy. On the 1.104, Dan Cooper’s stainless wording and the amazon.co.uk carbon-steel field cannot both be the metal. On the 5.107, an anvil bullet and a bypass field cannot both be the cut. On the 15.107, a bullet says 190 g and the item-weight field says 18 g, which is not a weight to quote, and the handle field says wood. hd2412.co.uk prints large hands, 175 g, 290 g, 25 mm, and 180 mm on one 1.104 page. Do not average those figures. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 22, you have 30 days to reject goods that are not as described. Only the 5.107 and the 15.107 print two years. Do not lend a lifetime promise to the 1.104. If amazon.co.uk will not dispatch it, the warning on 20 October 2026 is the fact.

Common questions

How do I know it is Original LÖWE and not a German steel bypass?
Look for Original LÖWE and a model number from this set: 1.104, 5.107, 11.107, 14.104, or 15.107. A title that only says German steel, German technique, or SK5 is a different product, even when the price is lower. The five genuine listings sat between £43.54 and £72.65. The maker named on the brand site is Gebr. Schröder in Flintbek.
What does .104 mean against .107?
In the 2022 English catalogue, .104 is the standard handle and .107 is the inward-curved handle. On the 1.104 that is medium and large hands, a stated 22 mm, and 290 g. On the 5.107 it is extra-small hands, 16 mm, and 190 g. The ending is not a score. The 11.107 uses a curved handle on a right-hand bypass, so the same digits do not mean the same wood.
Which stated cut is 16 mm and which is 22 mm?
The 5.107 is the 16 mm listing. The 1.104, 11.107, 14.104, and 15.107 print 22 mm. Those widths are claims on the page, not a test we ran. Gardeners’ World’s 10–15 mm bypass figure is their rule of thumb, not a Löwe measurement. Past the number on the model you hold, the next tool is a lopper or a saw.
What if the blade-type field and the bullets disagree?
Say both, and do not buy as if only one of them exists. On the 5.107 the bullets describe an anvil and the blade-type field says bypass. On the 15.107 the weight field says 18 g against a 190 g bullet. Dan Cooper Garden lists the 5.107 as an anvil at £38, a different shelf from £50.50 on amazon.co.uk. If you need the mechanism to be unambiguous, the 1.104 anvil fields agree more closely than the 5.107 page does.
When is the stem a job for a lopper?
When the stem is wider than the stated cut on the secateur you are holding. That is 16 mm on the 5.107 and 22 mm on the other four listings. A lopper, or a saw, is the next tool. The 22.080 is a lopper, not a larger secateur. Stop for ladder work, a saw in a crown, a protected tree, or a disease you cannot name. Latch the blade before the tool goes in a pocket.
