Best grafting knife

Updated: 22 October 2026

You want one knife for one person, and a reason to leave the wrong tool in the basket. Best grafting knife, across these three amazon.co.uk listings, cannot mean a UK champion. Two are not whip-and-tongue knives, and the only stated graft blade has 4.0 from 2 reviews. This page says who each is for, and who should skip it. The rows are on our [grafting knife comparison](/hub/garden-tree-and-hedge-shears/grafting-knife). Peter F. used the UK listings captured on 19 October 2026. There is no lab test. What best can mean in this comparison

A grafting knife, as the Royal Horticultural Society describes it, is a very sharp blade you wipe clean so the cuts meet flush. It is not a star rating. The Due Buoi states a V graft blade. The TopHomer states a pruning folder with grafting in the title. The Brrnoo states a barking cutter. For a long flat face on dormant apple wood, only the first is in the right family. Best here means the least wrong listing for a named person, with the skip in the same breath. It is not the best grafting knife in the UK. A Felco or a Victorinox with a larger review count is not a row in this table. If you need fruit this year and you have never made the cut, buy a finished tree or ask a practised grafter. The order of checks is the grafting knife buying guide.

Due Buoi 207L, for a right-hand V cut

Open the Due Buoi DB 207L if you are right-handed and the blade description, not only the title, says grafting knife. Amazon.co.uk lists it at £41.72, with 4.0 from 2 reviews. The bullets state a V blade, carbon steel at HRC 58/59, and a wood handle. Item weight is 175 g. Item length is 7.88 inches, about 200 mm, which is the listing figure, not a second measurement by us. It is the top pick here because that geometry is stated, and a poor pick if you are left-handed, because no left-hand grind is stated. The maker's page also prints HRC 58/59 and lists 105 g. Do not correct the UK weight to 105 g, and do not swap in a euro price or a US page that states HRC 55/56. Carbon steel rusts if you store it wet. Two reviews cannot show that this V replaces a straight single-bevel knife, and the listing does not state a bark lifter.

Who should skip the other two

Skip the TopHomer if you are choosing a graft knife. It is £10.49, with locking handles, 230 g and an ambidextrous field. There is no star line. Grafting is in the title, the blade-edge field is not a readable bevel, and there is no hardness and no length. It is the best value here only against the cheaper cutter: a listing score of 8 against 6, at about a quarter of the Due Buoi price. That is a pruning-folder bargain, not a flat graft face. Skip the Brrnoo for any join. It is £7.35, a stated 3 cm barking cut, manganese steel, 56 g and 13 cm, with no star line. You save about £34 and you do not get a graft knife. Checked on 21 October 2026, a Faithfull Countryman was about £12.75 with 4.7 from 434, a Felco 57 mm about £19.62 with 4.7 from 390, and a Victorinox budding combi about £20.07 with 4.7 from 299. Those counts are why two reviews feel thin. They are not rows in this table.

If you need a lifter or a left-hand grind

None of the three listings states a bark lifter. A T-bud needs the flaps opened without the knife tip on the cambium. Chip budding does not. A left-hand grind is not stated either. From other shops, the Darlac DP342 at Peter Beales is £11.99, 62 g and 180 mm, with a lifter. The Tina 605 at Great Dixter is £109.99 including tax. Do not paste an ex-VAT trade price as the shelf price. A Due Buoi 275 L, ASIN B0BH4JB94S, is a different knife. A separate note recorded £38.34, and a search saw 5.0 from 1 without a fresh price, so that figure stays on the other listing. If you need fruit this year, if the work is off the ground, if an old union has split, or if children are near the blade, buy a finished tree or ask a practised grafter.

Common questions

Which knife in this comparison is the one for whip-and-tongue?
The Due Buoi DB 207L is the only listing here that states a graft blade: a right-hand V, carbon steel, HRC 58/59 on the UK bullets, at £41.72, with 4.0 from 2 reviews. The TopHomer does not state a bevel, and the Brrnoo states a 3 cm barking cut. Use it only if you are right-handed and you treat two reviews as a sample, not a trial.
Who should skip the TopHomer and the Brrnoo?
Skip both if you need a described graft face. The TopHomer at £10.49 is a locking pruning folder with grafting in the title and no star line. The Brrnoo at £7.35 is a girdling cutter. The TopHomer is the best value only against that cheaper cutter, not against a knife with a stated bevel.
Is the Due Buoi 207L the best grafting knife in the UK?
No. It is the clearest graft knife inside these three listings, and 4.0 from 2 reviews cannot carry a national claim. On 21 October 2026 the amazon.co.uk gardening-knife list showed Felco, Victorinox and Faithfull models with hundreds of ratings, below £41.72. Those are not in this table.
What do people buy on amazon.co.uk instead?
On 21 October 2026 that list showed a Faithfull Countryman around £12.75 with 4.7 from 434, a Felco 57 mm around £19.62 with 4.7 from 390, and a Victorinox budding combi around £20.07 with 4.7 from 299. They are context, not ASINs in this comparison, and not a fourth row in the table.
Is a £7 tool ever the right buy?
It is the right buy only if you want the cut the listing states. At £7.35 the Brrnoo states a 3 cm barking and girdling width. That can be the tool for ringing bark. It is the wrong buy if the search word grafting is why you stopped. Saving the difference against the £41.72 Due Buoi does not produce a sloping graft face.
Does a V blade replace a straight single-bevel knife?
Not by assumption. The UK listing says V shape and right hand. It does not use the single-bevel wording on some Felco pages, and we did not grind the edge. If you need a straight single bevel, or a left-hand grind, this V does not state that.
How many reviews are enough?
Two are not enough to judge edge life, and a missing star line is not a quiet five stars. The Due Buoi's 4.0 from 2 is the only rating here. Context knives on amazon.co.uk sat on a few hundred ratings on 21 October 2026. Use the stated blade first. A large count cannot rescue a bevel the listing never describes.
