Left-handed Felco secateurs

Updated: 22 October 2026

You prune with your left hand, and the pair already in the shed was shaped for the right. After twenty minutes on a cordon apple or a climbing rose, the blade meets the stem from the wrong side and the lower handle presses the heel of your left palm. Left-handed Felco secateurs are Felco’s mirrored tools, and in the six models on our [Felco secateurs](/hub/garden-tree-and-hedge-shears/felco-secateurs) comparison the only left-handed listing is the FELCO 16, titled as medium. Peter F. used that UK listing and Felco’s en-GB pages on 21 October 2026. There is no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

This set has one mirrored secateur

The left-handed listing is the FELCO 16, ASIN B00WJEGN92: £65.99, 4.8 from 277 reviews, 210 g, and 19.5 cm by 6.3 cm. Title and handedness say left. Origin says Switzerland. Felco calls it bypass for a medium left hand, 195 mm, a 20 mm cut, and 218.4 g. Keep both weights. It is not a left-handed FELCO 2. The FELCO 2 is a large right hand, with 25 mm in the title. Copying it picks the wrong hand. The en-GB collection showed the 16 at £59, and World of Secateurs showed £59.49 against an RRP of £69.99. Fourteen UK texts praise the left-hand fit. One keeps it to thinner stems. Fourteen texts are a thinner sample than 277 ratings.

Medium is not large

Felco calls 17.5–20 cm medium and anything above 20 cm large, fingertip to palm base. The FELCO 16 is medium. Felco states 20 mm and Amazon says 0.8 inches. A 19 cm left hand on pencil-thick roses fits. A 21 cm left hand does not. The FELCO 9 is the large left-hand model: angled head, 25 mm, 210 mm, 248.6 g, shown at £65. A Swiss-franc price is not a UK price, and the 9 is not an ASIN here. Above 20 cm, order the 9. Inside the medium band, open the FELCO 16 on amazon.co.uk. Read the Anvil field beside Felco’s bypass label

The blade-type field on B00WJEGN92 says Anvil. Felco classifies the FELCO 16 as bypass: the blade passes a curved counter-blade. An anvil closes on a flat block. This ASIN can appear in an anvil search because of that cell, then disappoint you on green wood. Buy it as bypass. The blade-material field says Aluminium, while the title says a hardened steel blade and the bullets say forged aluminium handles. Read the aluminium cell as a handle claim. The warranty cell is empty. That neither grants a lifetime promise nor says Felco offers nothing.

A 20 mm bypass still has a limit

A 20 mm bypass jams on wood you would take with the FELCO 9’s 25 mm cut. A 15 mm green shoot is inside the 16. A dry stem nearer 25 mm is the 9. The FELCO 10, large, left-handed, with a rotating handle, is £85 on that collection and outside this set. Sharpening sits on the how to sharpen Felco secateurs page. If a fresh edge still digs the lower handle into a left palm, the model is wrong. A right-hand Felco will not wear itself into a left-hand one.

Common questions

Which Felco secateurs are left-handed?
Felco’s en-GB left-handed collection lists more than one model. In this six-ASIN comparison the only left-handed secateur is the FELCO 16, a medium tool, at £65.99 under ASIN B00WJEGN92. On that collection the FELCO 16 was £59, the large FELCO 9 was £65, and the medium FELCO 17 was £79. The 9 and the 17 are not ASINs here.
What if I have a large left hand?
Above 20 cm, from fingertip to palm base, is large. The FELCO 16 is medium, with a 20 mm cut. Felco gives the FELCO 9 25 mm, 210 mm, 248.6 g, an angled head, and £65 on the en-GB collection. The 9 is not in this table. The rotating-handle FELCO 10 is £85 there and is outside this set too.
Can I just use a right-handed Felco in my left hand?
The blade will still cut. The handles are shaped the other way, so the blade sits on the far side of the stem and the lower handle loads the left palm. An hour on a climbing rose is what makes that ache. If the 16 is too small, the large left-hand model is the FELCO 9. A turned-around FELCO 2 is still right-handed.
What cut does the Felco 16 state?
Felco’s page states a 20 mm cut. The amazon.co.uk cutting-width field says 0.8 inches. Keep those as two printed figures. One of the fourteen UK texts says the pair suited lighter pruning and thinner stems. The listing shows 4.8 from 277 ratings. A left hand that needs a 25 mm stated cut is looking at the FELCO 9, which is outside this comparison.
Does the Amazon listing call it an anvil?
Yes. The blade-type field says Anvil. Felco classifies the FELCO 16 as bypass, so the blade passes a curved counter-blade rather than closing on a flat block. If you filter for anvil secateurs, this ASIN can appear for that field alone. The blade-material field says Aluminium, while the title says a hardened steel blade. Read the title and Felco’s page before you treat one cell as the edge.
