Professional wheelbarrow comparison 2026

The best professional wheelbarrows, compared.

Top pick: Vivo Technologies 65 L Wheelbarrow (B0138KAD6E) Best value: Vivo Technologies 65 L Wheelbarrow (B0138KAD6E) – Best value at about £29.99: 4.2 from 271 ratings, own written reviews, and a stated 65 litre tray. Updated 16.10.2026.

Peter F.Editor

A professional wheelbarrow is an adult tray, frame, and one or two wheels that you push and tip. It is not a four-wheel cart, a toy, or a spare wheel. You separate the shelves by the job and the pan, not by a heavy-duty title. Regular soil wants about 85–90 litres that will not crease. Daily rubble belongs on a merchant contractor barrow. Which? puts most barrows around 80 litres, and wet soil can make half a tray the stop. Stated maxima here are 100 kg, 150 kg, or missing. A sticker is not a weighed tray of wet soil, and the HSE sets no kilogram limit. Litres, load, and tyre are in the [professional wheelbarrow buying guide](/hub/garden-tools/wheelbarrow-professional/sub/wheelbarrow-professional-buying-guide). A garden barrow is the light single-wheel pan. A contractor barrow is the merchant specification, about 85–120 litres. Haemmerlin calls a narrower 85 litre doorway pan and the wider ribbed 90 litre pan European-style. A plastic tray is lighter and better for some yard corrosives. A garden cart has four wheels and is pulled.

A professional wheelbarrow is an adult tray, frame, and one or two wheels that you push and tip. It is not a four-wheel cart, a toy, or a spare wheel.

The best professional wheelbarrows in detail

Vivo Technologies 65 L Wheelbarrow (B0138KAD6E)

Rank 1

Vivo Technologies 65 L Wheelbarrow (B0138KAD6E)

∼£30

Our view

This Vivo Technologies 65 litre listing is the one buyers describe as light to push around a garden or allotment, at £29.99 with a 13 inch pneumatic tyre and a stated 100 kg maximum. Empty weight is 7.3 kg, and the page says assembly is required. It is 4.2 from 271 amazon.co.uk ratings, the largest count among the 65 litre listings whose written reviews are their own. About two thirds of the 50 written reviews praise the handling for garden work, and some describe regular use over weeks or months. About a quarter call assembly fiddly, with misaligned holes, legs that differ from left to right, or missing parts. About a fifth say the metal is thin for heavier loads and that it is not a builder's barrow. The model field reads as a kitchen trolley name, and the spec block does not state a wheel count.

Pros

  • 4.2 from 271 ratings, the largest own sample on a 65 litre listing here
  • 7.3 kg empty, at £29.99
  • Most of the 50 written reviews describe garden and allotment use
  • 13 inch pneumatic tyre and a stated 100 kg maximum

Cons

  • Fiddly assembly in about a quarter of 50 written reviews
  • Thin metal for heavier loads in about a fifth of those reviews
  • Model field names a kitchen trolley
  • Wheel count is not in the spec block

Best for: A first garden or allotment barrow, if you will check the parts before you tighten the bolts.

Less suitable: Building work, or a purchase where the model name on the page has to match the barrow.

Common questions

Does this listing show the model number of a wheelbarrow?

No. The model field reads as a kitchen trolley name, which looks like a listing error. The title, bullets, and reviews all describe a 65 L wheelbarrow.

How many wheels does it have?

The spec block does not give a wheel count. The bullets describe a pneumatic tyre of 13 inches.

What do written reviews say about assembly?

About a quarter of the 50 written reviews call it fiddly, mentioning misaligned holes, frame legs that differ left to right, or missing parts. Many others call it easy.

Vivo GR011 65 L Galvanised Wheelbarrow

Rank 2

Vivo GR011 65 L Galvanised Wheelbarrow

∼£29

Our view

The Vivo GR011 is a 65 litre single-wheel barrow that buyers use for gravel, stones, and soil at light to moderate loads, priced at £28.99 with a 13 inch pneumatic tyre. The listing states a 100 kg maximum and an empty weight of 8.7 kg. It is 4.2 from 211 amazon.co.uk ratings, and the 50 written reviews describe this size, including a buyer who chose the 65 litre option. About half of those texts praise it for garden work, while about a third complain about assembly: holes that need forcing, confusing instructions, and a short or ill-fitting tool. A smaller group says the metal flexes with rocks or roofing tiles. The bullets say galvanised steel and the spec block says stainless, and the spec block says no assembly is required while the reviews describe building it. The 100 kg line is a sticker, not a full tray of wet soil.

Pros

  • 4.2 from 211 ratings, and the written reviews describe this 65 litre barrow
  • 13 inch pneumatic tyre and 8.7 kg empty weight
  • Buyers report gravel, stones, and soil at light to moderate loads
  • £28.99, with its own review file rather than a shared one

Cons

  • Assembly complaints in about a third of 50 written reviews
  • Galvanised and stainless steel both appear on the listing
  • Spec block says no assembly; the reviews describe assembly
  • Flex reported with rocks and roofing tiles

Best for: Allotment and garden waste at light to moderate loads, if you can spare time to line the holes up.

Less suitable: Daily rubble, wet concrete, or a barrow you need ready to push out of the box.

Common questions

Is the GR011 galvanised or stainless steel?

The listing says both: galvanised in the bullets and stainless steel in the spec block. The listing does not give a galvanising thickness.

Does the GR011 arrive assembled?

The spec block says no assembly is required. Many written reviews describe assembling it, including aligning holes and fitting the wheel.

What loads do buyers report?

Buyers report gravel, stones, soil, and cement moved without trouble. A smaller group says it flexes or rocks with rocks or roofing tiles. The stated maximum load is 100 kg.

Vivo GR012_v1 85 L Galvanised Wheelbarrow

Rank 3

Vivo GR012_v1 85 L Galvanised Wheelbarrow

∼£50

Our view

The Vivo GR012_v1 is listed as an 85 litre single-wheel barrow with a 16 inch pneumatic tyre, a stated maximum of 150 kg, and an empty weight of 14 kg, at £49.99. The star line is 4.2 from 211 amazon.co.uk ratings, the same figures as the 65 litre GR011, and the 50 written reviews match that page, including a buyer who chose 65 litres. Those texts are not evidence that this 85 litre tray carried soil or rubble. The bullets say galvanised steel and the spec block says stainless. The spec block says no assembly is required. At 14 kg empty it is nearly twice the 65 litre sibling, and the listing does not explain the difference. The 150 kg sticker is not a tested load of wet soil or concrete.

Pros

  • Stated 85 litre tray and a 16 inch pneumatic wheel
  • Stated maximum of 150 kg and an empty weight of 14 kg
  • Wheel count is stated as one

Cons

  • Written reviews and the 4.2 from 211 match the 65 litre listing
  • Galvanised and stainless steel both appear, with no thickness given
  • £49.99 without reviews that describe this tray
  • Spec block says no assembly is required

Best for: A buyer who wants the stated 85 litre size and will judge the pan in person, not from the shared reviews.

Less suitable: Anyone treating the 4.2 as proof this tray has carried soil, or anyone moving rubble every day.

Do the reviews describe this 85 L barrow?

Not specifically. The 50 written reviews and the 4.2 star rating match the 65 L Vivo GR011 page, and one reviewer chose the 65 L size.

What is the stated maximum load?

The listing states 150 kg. The listing does not say how much wet soil or rubble the tray can hold.

Is the tray galvanised or stainless steel?

The bullets say galvanised and the spec block says stainless steel. No galvanising thickness is given.

Gardebruk 108750 80 L Wheelbarrow

Rank 4

Gardebruk 108750 80 L Wheelbarrow

∼£40

Our view

The Gardebruk 108750 is an 80 litre barrow with a 32 cm pneumatic tyre, and at £39.99 it is the mid-price tray in this set. The listing states a 100 kg maximum and an empty weight of 7.15 kg, and it needs assembly. It is 3.8 from 1,078 amazon.co.uk ratings, the largest star sample here. About a third of the 50 written reviews call assembly fiddly, citing misaligned holes or wheel brackets that are handed left and right, while others call it quick at around 10 minutes. About a quarter say the metal bends under heavy loads. Several reviewers say it moved stones, soil, rubble, or cement, and one reports no rust after about six months outdoors. The bullets say galvanised steel and the spec block says alloy steel, and one review says the wheel needed pumping before use.

Pros

  • 80 litre tray at £39.99, larger than the 65 litre listings
  • 3.8 from 1,078 ratings, the largest sample in this set
  • 32 cm pneumatic wheel and 7.15 kg empty weight
  • Some buyers report soil and stones, and one reports no rust after about six months

Cons

  • Fiddly assembly in about a third of 50 written reviews
  • Thin metal under heavy loads in about a quarter of those reviews
  • Galvanised steel and alloy steel both appear on the listing
  • Several reviews say it is for light garden use, not building work

Best for: Regular garden soil when 65 litres feels tight, if you will assemble the handed brackets with care.

Less suitable: Daily site rubble, or a pan you expect to come with a published steel thickness.

KetoBarrow TaskBarrow 110 L Plastic Wheelbarrow

Rank 5

KetoBarrow TaskBarrow 110 L Plastic Wheelbarrow

∼£60

Our view

The KetoBarrow TaskBarrow is the only plastic tray in this set, listed at 110 litres with a pneumatic tyre and a stated maximum of 150 kg, at £59.97. Overall size is 124 × 60 × 67 cm, the colour is blue, and the listing says assembly is required. It is 3.7 from 18 amazon.co.uk ratings, and only 10 written reviews are in the file. About half of those texts report bolts or handle brackets working loose, and one says the wheel came out of its notches while pushing. About a third call the size useful and the build quick. One buyer says it suits leaves rather than mucking out, and one reports a failure within about eight weeks and a refund request. Empty weight is not stated, and the professional wording on the title is not backed by contractor use in those 10 texts.

Pros

  • 110 litre plastic tray, the only plastic pan in this set
  • Stated maximum of 150 kg
  • Some of the 10 written reviews report a quick build and a useful size
  • Tray, frame, and handle are listed as plastic, so rust is not the steel problem

Cons

  • Bolts or handle brackets working loose in about half of 10 written reviews
  • Only 18 ratings, with 10 written texts
  • Empty weight is not stated
  • One review limits it to light use such as leaves, and one reports failure in about eight weeks

Best for: Lighter garden waste where a steel pan would meet corrosive muck, if you will keep checking the fixings.

Less suitable: Mucking out, rubble, or a barrow you will not stop to retighten.

REQUISITE NEEDS RN-331 65 L Galvanised Wheelbarrow

Rank 6

REQUISITE NEEDS RN-331 65 L Galvanised Wheelbarrow

∼£25

Our view

The REQUISITE NEEDS RN-331 shifts light garden waste in a 65 litre galvanised tray, and at £25.49 it is the lowest price in this set. The listing states a 100 kg maximum and an empty weight of 7.5 kg, with one pneumatic wheel and assembly required. Across 40 amazon.co.uk ratings it is 3.6, and 23 written reviews are on file. About two thirds of those texts describe thin pressed steel that buckled, dented, or folded, with some buyers naming loads of roughly 20–40 kg. A smaller group says it is fine for plants and light garden jobs, and one buyer assembled it in about 20 minutes. Several reviews mention dents or scratches on arrival, and some describe an off-centre wheel or uneven legs. One buyer found no spanner in the box, and the 100 kg figure is the listing sticker, not a weighed tray of wet soil.

Pros

  • Lowest shelf price in this set, at £25.49
  • 65 litre tray, stated 100 kg maximum, 7.5 kg empty
  • Assembly often described as straightforward, one buyer citing about 20 minutes
  • A minority of written reviews say it suits plants and light garden jobs

Cons

  • About two thirds of 23 written reviews report buckling under light to moderate loads
  • Dents or scratches on arrival in several reviews
  • Wheel diameter is not stated
  • The title also calls it a garden cart

Best for: Plants and light garden waste, if you accept thin steel and a 3.6 from 40 ratings.

Less suitable: Soil, rubble, or any load in the range where the written reviews already saw the pan crease.

DIVCHI WB5206 Wheelbarrow

Rank 7

DIVCHI WB5206 Wheelbarrow

∼£30

Our view

The DIVCHI WB5206 is listed at £30.10 with overall dimensions of 131 × 60 × 60 cm, and it is 3.4 from 83 amazon.co.uk ratings. The page does not state a capacity in litres or a maximum load, so you cannot check the tray against a job before it arrives. The item weight of 200 g is not a credible mass for that size. The bullets say both a pneumatic tyre and a puncture-proof tyre, and both stainless steel and galvanised steel. Of 41 written reviews, about a third describe very thin metal that bends or tears, and holes that do not line up. About a quarter praise the price, and two buyers report moving wet cement or about a tonne of gravel. One written review says the tray is not stainless, and about ten of the 41 texts are in French.

Pros

  • Shelf price of £30.10, in the same band as the other entry listings
  • Some buyers describe a quick assembly
  • Two written reviews report wet cement or a large gravel run

Cons

  • Litres and maximum load are not stated
  • The 200 g weight line is not credible for the stated size
  • Tyre type and steel type are each stated twice, and they conflict
  • Thin metal in about a third of 41 written reviews

Best for: Only a buyer who can inspect the tray, the tyre, and the steel before relying on the page.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs a stated capacity, a single material line, or a weight that can be the barrow.

Is the tray stainless steel?

The listing says both stainless steel and galvanised steel. One written review says the tray is not stainless steel.

How we compared

Scores compare the seven amazon.co.uk listings kept in this category. Prices, stars, and review counts are the figures saved on 15 October 2026. There is no laboratory test, and no tray was loaded with soil or rubble. The scores do not name the best professional wheelbarrow in Britain. Each score is out of 100 in four blocks, and the weights below sum to 100.

1

Review line

40%

Stars, rating count, and whether the written reviews describe this barrow. A shared review file with the other size scores 6 and does not add star or count points.

2

Stated specification

30%

Litres, a stated maximum load, one wheel, one tyre type, one material account, and an empty weight that is credible for the size.

3

Price for a usable listing

20%

Shelf price when litres are stated and the written reviews are this barrow’s. A shared review file cannot be scored as evidence for this tray.

4

Listing clarity

10%

Each listing starts at 10. Points come off for a material clash, an assembly line the reviews contradict, a garden-cart title, a heavy-duty claim the texts do not support, a model name for a different product, a weight that cannot be the barrow, a shared review file, or two tyre types.

Professional wheelbarrow buying guide

Choose the job before the litre number. Light waste, regular soil, and daily rubble are different pans, and a heavy-duty title does not move a flat-pack into the contractor class. Prices below are amazon.co.uk shelf prices on 15 October 2026. How those shelves sit against merchant barrows is in [what a wheelbarrow costs in the UK](/hub/garden-tools/blog/wheelbarrow-cost-uk).

What is a professional wheelbarrow?

A professional wheelbarrow is a tray on a frame with one or two wheels, pushed and tipped by an adult. A garden barrow is the light single-wheel pan. A contractor barrow is the merchant specification, about 85–120 litres. Haemmerlin calls a narrower 85 litre doorway pan British-style (Camden) and the wider ribbed 90 litre pan European-style (Original). A plastic tray is lighter and better for some yard corrosives. A garden cart has four wheels and is pulled.

Best for

  • A householder or allotment holder who needs a barrow that fits the gate
  • A one-off patio, if a failed tray will not stop paid work

Not ideal for

  • Daily rubble, or anyone buying a barrow for employees
  • A route of steps or a steep bank with rubble or wet concrete

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Buying the biggest litre number

Which? puts most barrows around 80 litres, and wet soil can make half a tray the stop. Clarkes lists 90 litres of soil and 68 litres of water on one pan. A 110 litre plastic tray is not automatically the right pan.

  2. 2

Reading 100 kg as a full pan of wet soil

The 100 kg and 150 kg figures are listing stickers. They are not a weighed tray of wet soil or concrete. The HSE sets no kilogram limit, and its filters are not safe limits.

  3. 3

    Treating a sub-£40 flat-pack as a contractor barrow

A heavy-duty title does not make these thin pans a merchant specification. Contractor trays in the sources are about 85–120 litres, and merchant pages put Haemmerlin and Chillington barrows at about £50–£80.

What to weigh up

Job, volume, and the stated load

High

Start with the job, then the litres, then the sticker. Light waste can use 65–85 litres. Regular soil wants about 85–90 litres that will not crease. Daily rubble belongs on a merchant contractor barrow, which these seven flat-packs are not. Which? puts most barrows around 80 litres, spanning about 50–160. Wet soil can make half a tray the stop, so the biggest litre number is a weak way to choose.

Material, wheel, and listing clarity

High

Steel is for bricks and wet spoil. Polypropylene is for lighter waste and some muck that attacks steel. Galvanising slows rust. Clarkes publishes 0.9 mm, and these seven galvanised listings do not. The GR011 and GR012 bullets say galvanised while the spec block says stainless. The Gardebruk bullets say galvanised and the spec block says alloy steel. DIVCHI states stainless and galvanised, and a UK review says the tray is not stainless. The KetoBarrow is the only plastic tray, frame, and handle.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Allotment or garden waste

You need a barrow that fits the gate and you will move gravel, stones, or soil at light to moderate loads. The written reviews on this 65 litre page describe that listing, and you can spare time to line the holes up.

Regular garden soil

Sixty-five litres feels tight and you still want garden soil, not daily site rubble. This 80 litre tray is the mid-price pan here, and the handed brackets need care at assembly.

Common questions about professional wheelbarrows

Which professional wheelbarrow is the top pick in this set?
In this set the top pick is the Vivo GR011, a 65 litre single-wheel barrow at about £28.99. It is 4.2 from 211 amazon.co.uk ratings, and the written reviews describe this listing, including a buyer who chose 65 litres. About half of 50 texts praise garden work, and about a third complain about assembly. The page says both galvanised and stainless steel. It is for light to moderate garden or allotment loads, not daily rubble.
Which listing is the best value?
The best value is the Vivo Technologies 65 litre listing at about £29.99. It is 4.2 from 271 ratings, with its own written reviews and a stated 65 litre tray. The Gardebruk scores the same 81 but is 3.8 from 1,078 ratings at about £39.99, so it misses the 4.0 line in the value rule. The RN-331 is cheaper at about £25.49, and buckling is the majority written theme.
How much does a professional wheelbarrow cost in the UK?
On amazon.co.uk on 15 October 2026 these seven listings run from about £25.49 to £59.97. Entry is about £25–£32, mid is about £40–£50, and the plastic pan is about £60. Merchant pages the same day put 85–120 litre Haemmerlin and Chillington barrows at about £50–£80 including VAT. Which? puts cheap plastic from about £30 and basic steel often at £60–£80. A heavy-duty title on a sub-£40 flat-pack is not that merchant specification.
Does a 100 kg sticker mean a full tray of wet soil?
No. The 100 kg and 150 kg lines are listing stickers, not a weighed tray of wet soil or concrete. Which? puts most barrows around 80 litres, and wet soil can make half a tray the stop. Clarkes lists 90 litres of soil and 68 litres of water on one pan. The HSE sets no kilogram limit for a wheelbarrow, and its risk filters are not safe limits. Read the job and the pan, not the sticker alone.
Should the tray be steel or plastic?
Steel is the usual pan for bricks and wet spoil. Polypropylene is lighter and better for some yard corrosives that attack steel. Galvanising slows rust, and Clarkes publishes 0.9 mm, which these seven galvanised listings do not. Six listings here are steel or a conflicting steel line. The KetoBarrow TaskBarrow is the only plastic tray, at 110 litres and about £59.97, and about half of its 10 written reviews report fixings working loose.
Do these listings suit daily rubble or a workplace?
Daily rubble belongs on a merchant contractor barrow, about 85–120 litres, not on these thin flat-packs. If you are buying for employees, the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 cover pushing and pulling, and employer-supplied equipment falls under PUWER 1998. Stop when the route is steps or a steep bank and the load is rubble or wet concrete, when the pan has creased, or when you cannot assemble the flat-pack safely. A private buyer uses the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
What if only the wheel has failed?
A spare wheel is a different product from a whole barrow. These seven listings are complete single-wheel flat-packs. Where a tyre type is stated it is pneumatic, and none specifies foam. One Gardebruk review says the wheel needed pumping before use. If the tyre, axle, or wheel is the failed part, compare wheelbarrow wheels instead of replacing the tray. Check the stated diameter: 13 inch, 32 cm, and 16 inch all appear here.

Our verdict

In this set the top pick is the Vivo GR011: 65 litres at about £28.99, 4.2 from 211 ratings, and written reviews that describe that listing, including light to moderate garden loads. It is not the pick for daily rubble, and the galvanised line is not settled against stainless on the same page. The best value is the other Vivo 65 litre listing at about £29.99, 4.2 from 271 ratings, with its own written reviews. The Gardebruk ties that score at 81 and does not take the badge: 3.8 from 1,078 ratings at about £39.99. The RN-331 is cheaper at about £25.49 and does not take it either: 3.6 from 40 ratings, and buckling is the majority written theme.
