How to apply brick sealer without mixing the clocks

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have a can from this set, or you are about to open one, and the weekend weather looks clear enough to try. The liquid in the wall cans often looks milky in the bucket. That is normal for several silicone water seals. What is not normal is running Everbuild's one-hour second coat on Raincheck's dry-wall, 24-hour rain rule, or flooding a hearth with a product that wants a wipe at ten minutes. The [stone sealer comparison](/hub/garden-supplies/stone-sealer) names the seven amazon.co.uk listings. A qualifying purchase from that page can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. This page is the order of work once you already chose a family.

Before you open the can

Clean the face the way the sheet allows. Safeguard's Raincheck guide points at dry, porous masonry that is not painted, above the damp-proof course, with glass, frames and plants masked, and with no rain expected for about 24 hours. It references BS 8221-1:2000 for cleaning practice. Everbuild's Sika sheet allows a surface that is damp but not wet, refuses detergent as a same-day first step, wants a temperature of at least 10°C, and stops you if rain is imminent. Those two opening rules already disagree. Read the can in your hand, not a generic patio blog. On flat work, Everbuild tells you to brush puddles in after about 15 to 20 minutes so the liquid does not sit as a film. If the real problem is a leaking gutter, failed pointing or a crack wider than a hairline, stop. Safeguard's guide treats gaps above about 0.3 mm as a repoint, not a spray. The penetrating damp brick sealer page covers that stop-line. New patio wait times and efflorescence belong on the sandstone patio sealer page, not here.

Everbuild 402

Shake or stir as the sheet says, then apply by brush or spray until the masonry looks evenly wet. The second coat goes on within one hour. That clock is Everbuild's. Do not stretch it to tomorrow when it is convenient, and do not borrow Raincheck's wet-on-wet language as if the products shared one datasheet. Keep the can off painted surfaces, wood, plastic, rubber and fishponds. One UK review darkened painted render. Temperature below 10°C is a stop on that sheet. So is rain that is about to arrive. Coverage on the sheet is about 5 to 8 m² per litre. That is a wall figure. Asbestos-cement roofs appear in a couple of reviews. This page does not give preparation steps for those sheets. If that is the surface, you need specialist advice and HSE guidance, not a weekend roller.

Raincheck

Keep Eco and Universal apart. Raincheck Eco is the 5 litre wall listing whose weight supports the title. The Universal amazon kit is a different ASIN with an unconfirmed fill in this file. Application notes below follow Safeguard's Raincheck water-seal guide for the trade product family: start at the top, saturate porous brick or stone, apply a second coat while the first is still tacky, and keep rain off for a day. Universal's own trade guide mentions a temperature band of about 5 to 30°C and a second coat around 30 minutes for that product. Do not hang Eco on Universal's minutes without checking the sheet that came with your can. Safeguard's current Eco page states about 3.5 m² per litre. Stick to the sheet until your own wall teaches you otherwise. If you bought the Universal kit for the sprayer, confirm what liquid arrived before you plan a whole elevation. A missing or leaking pump appears in UK texts. That is a fulfilment problem, not an application tip.

HG and the small bottles

HG product 32 is not a flood coat. The UK how-to is undiluted product, applied in one direction with a roller, then any surplus removed after about 10 minutes with a dry lint-free cloth. Leave a film on the face and you get the opposite of an invisible impregnator. Coverage on HG's page runs from about 10 to 50 m² per litre with porosity. Hotspot's UK fireplace reviews talk about fumes indoors. Ventilate. If the stone is wrong for the bottle, stop. NOON'S UP is a bird-bath spray with mixed leak outcomes. A cracked bowl is a repair, not a coating schedule. Nano Z has almost no UK method text in this capture. Without a public sheet in the file, do not invent coats. If you realise the wall can was the wrong family for a hearth or a patio stain job, go back to the stone sealer buying guide rather than forcing a second wrong coat.

Common questions

Must the wall be bone dry?
Raincheck's guide wants dry masonry. Everbuild allows damp but not wet. Use the sheet for the can you opened.
When does the second coat go on?
For Everbuild 402, within one hour. For Raincheck, while the first coat is still tacky, with rain kept off for about a day. Do not merge those into one rule.
What do I mask?
Glass, frames, metal, plants and anything that should not receive silicone mist. Eco spray reviews make eye protection sensible.
Can I use a garden sprayer?
Many Eco reviewers did. Keep pressure moderate, watch overspray, and still brush puddles where the sheet says so.
What if it looks white?
Milky in the can can be normal. A white cast on the wall after drying may be surplus on a less porous patch. Check the maker note before you scrub.
How do I apply HG without a film on the face?
Roll thinly, wait about 10 minutes, and wipe what remains with a dry cloth. Do not flood a hearth the way you flood a brick wall.
What if rain is forecast tonight?
Do not start. Everbuild stops you when rain is imminent. Raincheck wants a clear day after the work. Wait for a better window.
