Solar pond pump with battery or direct

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are choosing a solar pond pump with battery, or a direct panel, and the garden is the usual British mix of sun, cloud and a fence shadow after three o’clock. On this amazon.co.uk shelf a battery is a daytime buffer. It is not a published night runtime. Prices below are the [solar pond pump comparison](/hub/garden-ponds/solar-pond-pump) snapshot of 20 October 2026. These batteries were not timed. Direct solar stops when the light drops

Direct means nothing stated that stores energy. That is the POPOSOAP 6.5 W at about £18.99, both 12 W pumps at about £49.99, the FEOXSHAL 15 W at about £52.28, the 20 W at about £62.99, and the 100 W waterfall. Shade the glass and the jet stops. UK reviews of the 12 W and 20 W pumps say the feature is off in dull light. One review of the 6.5 W mentions a battery. The bullet says there is none. In full sun a 12 W, 15 W or 20 W states more flow than an 8 W battery kit, and that flow still happens only while the panel is lit. The 20 W head is 2 m in the table and 2.3 m in the bullet. How to read that head is the solar pond pump buying guide.

What 3600 mAh means on these listings

Three kits print 3600 mAh, and none states hours. B0FVWQ69TK, about £19.99, says the battery is not for night use, at 3.4 from 123 reviews. B0FVXK3DDC, about £20.99, states 290 L/h, a 65 inch lift and a lead of about 3 m, at 3.8 from 106. The Biling 8 W, about £38.99, states a pond up to 600 litres and 4.1 from 349 reviews, and says it does not work at night. The milliamp figure is the same on each box. Swell UK says a lithium battery can cover dimmer daylight, and that performance still drops when the sun goes in. Other brands sometimes print 3–5 hours after dark. This shelf does not. A cloudy-day line is a buffer while it is still light, not a week of rain or a filter left on overnight.

What UK buyers actually saw

Buyers who charged a battery panel in full sun often saw the fountain continue on a cloudy afternoon. Others, on the about £19.99 POPOSOAP especially, called the battery flow a dribble. The about £20.99 reviews say the pump stops after sunset. A few Biling reviews describe a short run into the evening. That does not cancel the listing note. Do not average the split into a runtime. Direct pumps in the same sample stop when the panel is dull, including in north-east England light on the 15 W. One longer 20 W review calls the flow usable on a dull day. One dull-day review is not a new specification. A blocked sponge looks like a flat battery. Disconnecting the lead isolates the pump for cleaning. It is not a night mode.

Which one to buy for the light you have

If the panel stays in direct sun for the whole time you want the jet, buy direct. The 6.5 W is the bowl. The 12 W lines state more flow and still stop when the light goes. Which listing fits the bowl or the spillway is the best solar pond pump page. If the panel is charged and then spends part of the day under cloud, the 3600 mAh kits are what this shelf offers. The about £20.99 POPOSOAP has the stated lift and the longer lead. The about £19.99 sample is harsher, including weak flow. The Biling is the top pick because 349 reviews lead the score, not because the battery is larger. It does not work at night, and maximum head is missing. Neither choice is a fish filter.

Common questions

Will 3600 mAh run the fountain all night?
No figure on these listings says that. The three battery kits print 3600 mAh and no hours. The Biling bullet says the kit does not work at night. The about £19.99 POPOSOAP bullet says the battery is not for night use. Some UK reviews saw a short run after sunset. Many saw the pump stop. Plan for a daytime buffer, not for an all-night jet.
Why does a battery pump still stop when it gets dark?
Because the stored charge is small relative to an evening, and these boxes do not claim otherwise. Allpond Solutions’ general guide says any after-dark running is limited to what that day stored. Without a stated runtime, you cannot know whether that is minutes or longer. A pump that is lively at noon and quiet at dusk is matching the Biling note, not failing a night mode the listing never offered.
Is a direct 12 W or 20 W stronger in full sun than an 8 W with a battery?
The stated flows say yes while the sun is on the panel. About 600 L/h on the 12 W listings, 720 L/h on the 15 W, and 1,211 L/h on the 20 W table sit above the 300 L/h class of the 8 W kits. The moment the light drops, the direct pump has nothing stored. The 8 W battery kit may keep a weaker jet through a cloud, and UK reviews say that jet can be a dribble. Stronger in full sun and present in cloud are different virtues.
What happens when a cloud covers a direct panel?
The pump stops or the spray collapses. Listings for the 6.5 W and the 12 W pumps say the output follows the light, and UK reviews repeat it for the 15 W and 20 W. A passing cloud is enough. A battery kit is the alternative if that bothers you, and even then the buffer is not a night promise. Wiping the panel and keeping it out of a fence shadow still matters for both types.
Is the dearer Biling a longer runtime than the cheaper POPOSOAP?
Not on the printed battery. Both state 3600 mAh. The Biling, at about £38.99, adds 10 V, a 600 litre title, 4.1 from 349 reviews, and an explicit night refusal. It does not add a larger milliamp number or an hour rating. The about £20.99 POPOSOAP is the third kit with the same 3600 mAh line, plus a stated lift and a longer lead. Choose on those differences. Do not choose on an imagined extra night.
