Lounge furniture set buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are standing on a UK patio, or looking at a balcony door, and the amazon.co.uk titles already disagree with their own specification rows. One set is called a 4 seater and arrives as a sofa, an ottoman and a table. Another is two chairs. A third names aluminium in a bullet and steel further down the page. This lounge furniture set buying guide puts the checks in order before you open the six rows on the [lounge furniture set comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/lounge-furniture-set). Products Compared editorial team read those listings, captured on 19 October 2026. We did not run a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

A lounge set in this slice is a low outdoor seat, not a dining-height cafe pair. rattanstar in black (model 26067) and brown (model 26537) is a three-seater sofa, an ottoman and a coffee table, and the EVRE Malibu sits in that conversation group too. RELAX4LIFE and Harbour Housewares are two chairs. EVRE Cannes is the modular row the listing says you can split. The title seat count is the line that most often oversells the carton: rattanstar says up to four people, and the fourth place is the footstool. Malibu’s title, bullets and included-components field do not agree. Shape is settled on corner sofa set or bistro set.

Footprint before price

Chalk the clear floor, including the door that swings across it, before you sort by pounds. rattanstar prints 176 × 126 × 71.1 cm. Malibu prints 2.05 × 1.39 × 0.72 m. RELAX4LIFE prints a chair of 64 × 62 × 76 cm and a table of 40 × 40 × 40 cm. A balcony around 1.2 m deep fails the 126 cm rattanstar depth before anyone sits with their knees past the front rail. Cannes lists 175 × 58 × 74 cm, which describes a section more readily than a finished L. Harbour Housewares prints a 23 cm side it never explains. If the rectangle does not fit, stop on the small patio lounge set page.

Frame, weave and the lines that disagree

Harbour Housewares and Cannes name powder-coated steel in the bullets. RELAX4LIFE says metal and does not name the alloy. Malibu’s bullets say powdered steel and the material field says rattan. rattanstar’s bullet says rust-proof aluminium and the material field includes rust-proof steel. When those lines disagree, the frame is unresolved. RELAX4LIFE and both rattanstar colours use PE rattan. Cannes uses woven rope. Harbour Housewares uses texteline.

Cushions, glass and the labels missing from the listing

Only Cannes states a cushion thickness: seat pads of 56 × 56 × 6 cm and backs of 12 cm, in 220 g covers it calls shower-resistant. The same page tells you to cover the set in prolonged rain, in cold weather, and when you are not using it. Harbour Housewares states 5 mm tempered glass. rattanstar and Malibu name glass and omit the thickness. Cannes uses polywood. Cannes prints 150 kg per seat. That is a listing figure, not a BS EN 581 pass, and none of the six pages shows a report. These listings do not quote a permanent fire label. Day-to-day washing is on how to look after rattan garden furniture.

A price band for these six listings

On 19 October 2026 the two-chair sets were £130.99 and £151.99, both rattanstar colours were £199.99, Cannes was £249.99 and Malibu was £269.99. Treat that as a band for these rows only. The two rattanstar colours share one pool of 4.3 from 73. Adding them would invent reviews.

Common questions

How much patio do I need before I compare prices?
You need a clear rectangle you can chalk, including the door swing and a walking route, rather than a single national minimum. In this slice the large figures are 176 × 126 cm for rattanstar and 2.05 × 1.39 m for Malibu.
Is a 4 seater four chairs?
On the rattanstar listings, no. The pieces named are one three-seater sofa, one ottoman and one coffee table, with a claim of up to four people. The ottoman is the extra perch, not a fourth armchair.
What if the bullet says aluminium and the material line says steel?
Then the frame is unresolved. rattanstar says rust-proof aluminium in the bullet and includes rust-proof steel in the material field. Malibu says powdered steel in the bullets and rattan in the material field.
Is PE rattan the same as woven rope or texteline?
They are three different sits in this slice. PE rattan is the plastic weave on RELAX4LIFE and on both rattanstar colours. Cannes uses woven rope over powder-coated steel.
Do the cushions stay out in the rain?
Only if you ignore the care sentence on the same page. rattanstar tells you to bring cushions in on rainy or snowy days. Cannes tells you to cover the set in prolonged rain and cold.
Does tempered glass mean the table meets a British Standard?
No listing here shows a BS EN 581 report, and the word tempered is not that report. Harbour Housewares is the only row that states a thickness, 5 mm. rattanstar and Malibu name glass without a thickness. Cannes uses polywood.
Do outdoor cushions need a fire label in a conservatory?
If you might use the set indoors, Bromley council treats garden upholstery suitable for a dwelling as inside the fire regulations, including kit furniture. The amendment in force from 30 October 2025 is the current GOV.UK frame.
