Garden furniture set for a small patio

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have a balcony, a courtyard, or a patio under about 3 m by 3 m, and the photo never shows the door. In this amazon.co.uk capture from 21 October 2026, one corner prints sofas of about 175 cm and 165.5 cm at 83 kg, and another prints an L of 176 × 126 cm. If you cannot mark the footprint and still walk to the door, do not order the nine-seat set. The listings are on the [garden furniture set comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/garden-furniture-set). Peter F. read those listings on 21 October 2026. This is not a laboratory test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Mark the paving, not the photo

Measure the usable width, the door arc, and the narrowest turn on the stairs, then the largest box. Robert Dyas’s point is that the carton can be larger than the picture. Opal Retail, Cozy Furniture Direct and Gardens of Style publish small-space guides. They are rules of thumb, not British Standards. Opal uses about 60–70 cm around chairs. Cozy puts a balcony up to about 2 × 2 m on a table around 60–70 cm across. Gardens of Style, on a 3 × 3 m patio, stays with a 60–80 cm table or a compact L in a corner. BBC Gardeners’ World’s metre of clearance is often more than a balcony has. When you cannot meet it, buy fewer pieces. A kilogram claim is explained in the garden furniture set buying guide.

Sets in this capture that can be small

The folding Grand patio bistro, B0F1CDYNK8, at £99.98, folds, and the listing says no assembly. Depth prints 60 cm and item dimensions print 100 × 100 × 100 cm, and the weight prints 1 kg. Chalk both sizes. Do not trust the 1 kg. Rust at the joints is in the shared colour-pool reviews. TangXiaoQi, B0D8PJYVKK, is 12 kg of cast aluminium at £109.99, with a table of about 60 cm. One review says a parasol base will not fit. Withniture, URL B0DRJK662R, is also 12 kg at £129.99, chair 40 cm wide, and one review calls that small for someone 6 ft 5 in. EVRE Madrid, £129.99 and 29.8 kg, prints 106 × 56 × 82 cm. Use 106 cm only as a single piece, and still leave a path.

Sets that are small only on the screen

Rattanstar’s three colours, each £199.99, print 176 × 126 × 71.1 cm. A depth field that says 3 with no unit is not a size. An L of 176 cm, plus room to pass the rail, will not sit on a 2 × 2 m balcony. Marylin’s sofas are about 175 cm and 165.5 cm, 83 kg in three boxes, at £599.99. That is a dining corner for a measured wall, not a Juliet balcony. The mesh set prints depth 145 cm beside 113 × 77 × 75 cm. Bali is about 180 × 160 × 143 cm. The propane sectional is about 2.03 × 1.4 m. Once the tape says both a weave and a metal bistro would fit, read rattan vs metal garden furniture.

Wind, weight, and the stairs

Which? notes that resin rattan is light and can blow over. That is an upper-balcony problem. Marylin’s 83 kg is still not a wind certificate, or proof the floor can take it. Above a path, do not leave a light sofa where it can leave the balcony. The folding set and the two cast bistros at 12 kg are easier to carry than three dining-corner boxes, and easier to move before a storm. The cast sets do not fold. If the boxes will not come up the stairs, stop. A fault is the 30-day rejection under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. A set that is simply too big is the 14-day cancellation under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and you may still pay the return.

Common questions

What fits a balcony?
A two-person bistro is the size these retailer guides keep returning to: a table around 60–70 cm across, and room to move if you have it. In this capture that points at the folding set, with conflicting 60 cm and 100 cm lines, and at the two cast-aluminium sets at 12 kg. Madrid’s 106 cm line is safe only if that figure is the piece you are placing. A 2 × 2 m balcony does not take Marylin.
Is a four-seat corner a small-patio set?
Only if you have chalked it. Rattanstar is 176 × 126 × 71.1 cm before you add a path. Four seats can be Madrid’s loveseat and two chairs, or an L that fills the paving. Read the centimetres. The word four is not a footprint.
Will Marylin fit?
Marylin’s sofas print about 175 cm and 165.5 cm wide, with a table bullet 130 cm wide, at 83 kg in three boxes. On a patio under 3 m, with room to walk behind a chair, that is the set you mark and usually reject. It is the dining set at £599.99, not the balcony default.
Which captured set folds?
Only the Grand patio bistro, B0F1CDYNK8, at £99.98. The cast-aluminium bistros stay at about 60 cm once they are built. Madrid, rattanstar, the mesh set, Bali, Marylin and the propane sectional do not fold flat. The rust reviews are what you accept with that fold.
How wide is the rattanstar corner?
The attribute size on all three colours is 176 × 126 × 71.1 cm. The sofa bullet in inches, about 69.3 × 26.8 × 28.0, is a second line you check, not a figure to average in. A depth line that prints 3 and no unit is not usable. This is not a 2 m balcony set.
Can I put a light sofa on an upper balcony in the wind?
Which? warns that light resin rattan can blow over. On a balcony above a path, choose a set you can move, or a heavier frame you have checked against the floor. Marylin’s 83 kg is heavy to carry and still not a wind certificate. If the stairs defeat the boxes, do not order the set.
