Garden chairs buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

A patio table, a lawn and a beach weekend all appear in one amazon.co.uk search. This garden chairs buying guide is the order of checks: the job, the seat height, then whether the kilogram is per chair. The nine listings, from £30.99 to £59.99, are on the [garden chairs comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/garden-chairs). One chair per job is [best garden chairs](/hub/garden-furniture/garden-chairs/sub/garden-chairs-best). A recliner is [zero gravity garden chairs](/hub/garden-furniture/garden-chairs/sub/garden-chairs-zero-gravity). Seats at a table are [folding dining garden chairs](/hub/garden-furniture/garden-chairs/sub/garden-chairs-folding-dining). A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Our top picks

On this page

Start with the job, not the star rating

A star rating cannot rank a beach seat against a dining chair. The jobs here are a folding dining pair, four low metal chairs, a beach chair, camping folders, and zero-gravity pairs. Which? asks what the seat is for, whether it folds for a long British winter, and what it costs. OUTSIDER is 4.8 from 13 reviews at £59.99. Harbour Housewares is 4.4 from 3,834. Stars times 20 gives the thin sample a higher score. It does not make that chair the one for a table. Four chairs at £44.99 are a different buy from a dining pair at £39.99.

Seat height against the table

Elystra Living pairs tables around 72–75 cm with a seat near 45 cm and about 28–30 cm to the underside. by Crea puts the seat at 45–48 cm and the gap at 25–30 cm. Treat 45–50 cm as a retailer rule of thumb for a table around 75 cm. It is not a British Standard. If the apron is deep, measure to the underside. Harbour prints 350 mm. #WEJOY prints 18.99 cm. Straame prints 109 cm, which is not dining height. Yaheetech prints 67 × 58 × 94 cm and no seat height. Do not invent one from 94 cm.

User weight, and whether it is per chair

When two weight lines disagree, keep the lower one until the page says it is per chair. Harbour prints 150 kg and does not say chair or pack. #WEJOY prints 120.2 kg and a 400 lb bullet, about 181 kg. OUTSIDER’s title says 160 kg and a bullet says 180 kg. OVERMONT’s title says 227 kg and the specification says 450 lb, and the URL ASIN is not the details ASIN. Yaheetech rates the frame to 100 kg. Straame says 150 kg per chair. SereneLife prints 264 pounds, about 120 kg. A high kilogram is still a seller figure.

What BS EN 581-2 does not prove

BS EN 581-2:2026, in the BSI scope note, bases tests on an adult up to 110 kg. It excludes weathering and street furniture. None of the nine cites BS EN 581. A missing number is not a finding that the chair is illegal. The General Product Safety Regulations 2005 still require a safe product. A printed 150 kg or 227 kg is not the standard. East Cambridgeshire’s fire-safety sheet distinguishes upholstered furniture for a dwelling from a non-upholstered deck-chair. These listings show no fire label. Textilene mesh is not a domestic fire claim.

Rain, pack size, and a shared review pool

Weather-resistant does not mean the chair may live outside all winter. Yaheetech calls the texteline weather-resistant, and a review says to keep the chairs out of bad weather. Straame’s saved bullets say quick-drying after light showers. The navy listing’s live safety block says not to leave the chairs in the rain. Harbour has no rain sentence, and reviews mention rust. Black and navy Straame both print 4.6 from 3,832 and the same opening reviews. That is one pool. #WEJOY and OVERMONT say foldable in the title, and Is Foldable says No.

Common questions

What should I read first on a garden-chair listing?
Read the job in the title, then the seat height, then whether the kilogram is per chair. A star rating comes after those three, because 4.8 from 13 reviews is weaker evidence than 4.4 from 3,834. If seat height is missing, as on Yaheetech, measure the open chair rather than guessing from 94 cm of overall height.
Is a seat of 35 cm, or 19 cm, a dining chair?
No. Harbour’s 350 mm seat and #WEJOY’s 18.99 cm seat sit well below the 45–50 cm rule of thumb for a table around 72–76 cm. They can be right for a picnic or the beach. They do not give you about 25–30 cm of clearance under a dining top. Folding does not repair the height.
Does 150 kg mean the chair passed BS EN 581-2?
No. BS EN 581-2 bases tests on a person up to 110 kg and does not include weathering. A seller figure of 150 kg, 160 kg or 227 kg is not that test, and none of these nine listings cites the standard. A missing citation is not proof the chair is unlawful under the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
What if the title and the specification give two weights?
Keep the lower figure and do not average them. OUTSIDER prints 160 kg in the title and 180 kg in a bullet. OVERMONT prints 227 kg in the title and 450 lb in the specification, and the details ASIN is not the URL ASIN. #WEJOY prints 120.2 kg and a 400 lb bullet. The higher number is a second claim, not a second certificate.
Does weather-resistant mean I can leave it out all winter?
No. A weather-resistant or quick-dry bullet is not a leave-outside rule. Yaheetech’s review trail says to keep the chairs out of bad weather. Straame’s live safety block says not to leave them in the rain. The rain line tells you which claim you actually bought.
