You want somewhere to sit, and on a warm afternoon you also want to stretch out. The canopy swing looks long in the photo. A second tab calls itself a 2-in-1, a daybed, or a swing bed, so the two prices look like two deals on one object.

A garden swing bed or swing bench search is that mix-up. On the amazon.co.uk listings we kept from 15 October 2026, the freestanding Outsunny is a three-seat canopy swing with a seat 142.5 cm wide by 50 cm deep. The page does not describe it as a bed. A fixed-back mesh bench stays upright. A convertible, whose back you lay down, sat in a higher snippet band that day.

In short

Choose a swing bench when you want to sit, and a convertible when the back has to lay flat. The Outsunny we kept, B09TQZZXQQ, is the bench: a 50 cm deep mesh seat at £180.00 on 15 October 2026. Snippets that day put convertibles and wooden frames around £190–£280, as context rather than rows in the comparison.

A bench that swings, and a back that lays down

A swing bench is a seat with a back, hung so the seat moves. It stands on an A-frame, or it hangs from a porch on chains. The back stays at the angle the maker built.

A swing bed, on the UK pages used here, is the convertible, often called a 2 in 1 garden swing. The back is meant to lay down. PickShelf's affiliate roundup of 9 July 2026 lists an Outsunny 2-in-1 at about £195–£220. A Costway page from the 15 October research describes a back that lays down. Neither page is a scored row.

Do you need that moving back? If you want a seat under a canopy, a fixed back is the product, and the word bed belongs to something else. If you want to lie down, a mesh 3-seater still leaves you with a seat. The canopy does not add a hinge.

A porch swing vs swing bed choice has the same test. The Furinno Tioman we kept is a hanging meranti bench: a beam or a joist, no A-frame in the box, and timber that still holds you upright. We did not measure a convertible's hinge in a garden. "Lays down" is what those context pages say.

If your listing never uses those words, the back stays as it was built.

Can a 3 seater garden swing lie flat

Outsunny B09TQZZXQQ, model 84A-110CG, is the freestanding three-seat swing in the comparison. On the 15 October 2026 amazon.co.uk scrape it was £180.00, rated 4.3 out of 5 from 64 reviews. The frame is charcoal grey powder-coated alloy steel, 196 cm long by 128 cm wide by 172 cm high, and the item weighs 31.5 kg. Assembly is required.

Seat and back are textilene mesh, the adjustable canopy is included, and a cushion and a cover are absent. Stated load is 300 kg, the maker's figure, not a BS EN 581 result. The seat is 142.5 cm wide by 50 cm deep. The listing does not call this a bed, a daybed, or a 2-in-1. Fifty centimetres is the sitting surface in front of a fixed back.

The 142.5 cm runs across the three places, not along a sleeper. A cushion softens the mesh and does not add a hinge.

Furinno Tioman B06XKRJYKR, model FG16409SC, was £145.83 the same day, 4.3 from 555 reviews: oil-rubbed meranti, 12 kg, chains described, listed as two seats. The bullets say 112.3 cm by 59.4 cm by 59.99 cm. The item line says 120.5 cm by 68.5 cm by 60 cm. The 60 cm depth is still for sitting, and nothing says you lay the back down.

Both benches are in the swing bench comparison. The buying guide is where seat depth meets the way you sit. The page on who each swing is for keeps the Outsunny when you have no beam and you want a seat.

What a convertible garden swing showed in the snippets

On 15 October 2026, convertibles and wooden frames in the snippets sat around £190–£280, a different sticker from the £180.00 seat. PickShelf's Outsunny 2-in-1 was about £195–£220, with a stated load of 340 kg.

The Costway steel model beside it is 190 cm by 120 cm by 180 cm, a stated 300 kg, 34 kg net, and a back that lays down. Those pages are not scored beside B09TQZZXQQ and B06XKRJYKR. The metal swing at £79.95 measures 170 cm by 110 cm by 153 cm, a different product from the 190 by 120 by 180 cm convertible.

Those smaller centimetres mark the wrong patch of patio. The 340 kg and the 300 kg are maker figures, not BS EN 581 results, and we did not test them. The kept Outsunny also prints 300 kg, on a fixed bench. The same number does not make it the convertible.

US pages talk about a twin mattress. That name is not an amazon.co.uk measurement. If a UK listing prints no flat size in centimetres, leave the gap empty. A freestanding swing with a flat back needs a verb. "Lays down", "converts", or "2-in-1" is the hinge. "Flat back" on its own can mean a backrest that does not curve and still does not move. "Mesh back" on B09TQZZXQQ is the seat.

The £190–£280 band is one day's snippets, so open the live amazon.co.uk page and copy a flat dimension only when the maker prints it. A qualifying purchase from our comparison can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. That does not turn a snippet into a tested row.

Space and stated load are still listing figures

Start with the printed frame, then add whatever the listing leaves blank. The Outsunny occupies 196 cm by 128 cm by 172 cm before it moves. The page states no swing arc, so that travel is unknown, and unknown is not zero.

The convertible at 190 cm by 120 cm by 180 cm is slightly less wide and slightly taller. Its 34 kg net weight sits near the Outsunny's 31.5 kg. Weight will not tell you which back folds.

Leave clear ground beyond the rectangle so the seat misses the wall, the planter, and the toys. Garden Furniture Sales notes that an A-frame needs no beam. That line is about the stand. A freestanding convertible still needs its own centimetres, and a hanging swing bed needs a structure that can take a moving load. Plasterboard is the wrong fixing.

The porch or freestanding page is the beam question for the benches we kept. The small-patio page is the clearance question for a frame near two metres wide.

A stated load is the maker's ceiling, not a count of people lying side by side. The Furinno's space is the bench plus its chains. Until the seller picks one size line, plan the larger width, 120.5 cm. Porch swing vs swing bed is still the hinge, plus whether the porch can carry a moving load.

Hammocks and cushions are neither

A hammock is a sling of fabric you lie in. A swing bench is a seat with a back. Garden Furniture Sales puts hammocks apart from A-frame swing seats, and a cocoon hanging chair is another group. Only the convertible is the 2-in-1 beside a fixed swing bench. A swing seat vs daybed list that adds a hammock has mixed three products.

Mesh on B09TQZZXQQ is the seat and the back. A throw is not a mattress, and a cushion only changes how hard the mesh feels. The back stays at the frame's angle.

The adjustable polyester canopy is shade and light rain while you sit. It does not lengthen a 50 cm seat. Canopy removal is blank on the listing, and a winter cover is absent.

If you want to lie down, use a page that says the back lays down and prints flat centimetres, then check the price against the £190–£280 band from 15 October 2026. If you want to sit, the comparison is the mesh canopy swing at £180.00 and the meranti porch swing at £145.83. Products Compared ran no laboratory test. Figures come from those amazon.co.uk listings, PickShelf on 9 July 2026, the Costway page recorded that day, and Garden Furniture Sales on the A-frame.

Common questions

Can I sleep on a normal garden swing?
A normal garden swing bench is a seat with a fixed back. Outsunny B09TQZZXQQ, on the 15 October 2026 amazon.co.uk scrape, has a mesh seat 142.5 cm wide by 50 cm deep. The listing does not call it a bed or a folding back. Fifty centimetres is a sitting depth. Sleeping needs a convertible whose back lays down. A cushion softens the mesh without lengthening the seat. For sleep, use a page that prints a flat size.
What is a 2-in-1 swing?
A 2-in-1 garden swing has a back you can lay down, so the seat becomes a flatter platform. PickShelf's 9 July 2026 roundup lists an Outsunny 2-in-1 at about £195–£220, stated load 340 kg. A Costway page from 15 October records a steel model 190 cm by 120 cm by 180 cm, 34 kg net, a stated 300 kg, and a back that lays down. They sit outside this comparison. The loads are maker figures, not BS EN 581 results.
How much space does a swing bed need?
Start with the overall size on the listing, then leave clear ground so the seat can move. The convertible recorded here is 190 cm by 120 cm by 180 cm. The freestanding bench we kept is 196 cm by 128 cm by 172 cm, and that page states no swing arc, so the footprint is the frame at rest. An A-frame needs no beam. A hanging swing still needs a joist or beam fit for a moving load.
Is 50 cm of seat depth a lounger?
Fifty centimetres of seat depth is a sitting bench. On Outsunny B09TQZZXQQ the seat is 142.5 cm wide by 50 cm deep, in front of a fixed mesh back. The 142.5 cm runs across the three seats. The Furinno item line gives a seat depth of 60 cm, still a bench depth. A swing bed has to say the back lays down, or print a flat surface you can lie on.
Are swing beds in this comparison?
The swing bench comparison keeps two amazon.co.uk listings from 15 October 2026. Outsunny B09TQZZXQQ is a freestanding mesh 3-seater at £180.00. Furinno Tioman B06XKRJYKR is a hanging meranti porch swing at £145.83. Both are seats with backs that stay upright. An Outsunny 2-in-1 around £195–£220 and a Costway model at 190 by 120 by 180 cm are context, not scored rows. Open a convertible's own page when the back has to lay flat.
Is a hammock the same thing as a swing bed?
A hammock is a fabric sling you lie in. A swing bench is a seat with a back, on an A-frame or on chains. A swing bed, in this fork, is a bench whose back you lay down. Garden Furniture Sales separates hammocks from A-frames and notes that an A-frame needs no beam. The mesh on the Outsunny is the bench surface. Only the convertible is the 2-in-1 beside a fixed swing bench.
Will three adults fit if I only want to sit?
The Outsunny listing calls B09TQZZXQQ a three-seat swing. The seat is 142.5 cm wide, about 47.5 cm each if three adults sit in one row, and shoulders make that row tight. Depth is 50 cm, for sitting against the back. The stated load of 300 kg is the maker's line, not a BS EN 581 result. If you only want to sit, judge the width. If you wanted to lie down, this back stays upright.
