Log saw horse or trestle

Updated: 22 October 2026

You searched for a saw horse and the amazon.co.uk results handed you a toothed firewood cradle and a folding pair for doors in the same row. Both are sold as saw horses. They are not interchangeable. If the dangerous job is a chainsaw on a round, buy the log cradle. If the job is a door or a sheet, buy a trestle pair. The twelve prices sit on the [saw horse wood comparison](/hub/forestry-tools/saw-horse-wood). We separated the listings by the job printed on them. We did not stand a log on a BORA to prove the obvious. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What a log cradle does

A cradle holds one round. You roll the log into teeth or jaws, and you cross-cut in a gap so the bar finishes in wood and then in air. In this capture the cradles are the Oregon 584145 at about £39.50, with a stated 27 cm maximum and 79.83 kg, the Einhell 4500067 at about £32.97, with 300 mm and three heights, the Relaxdays 10029462 at about £39.90, the eSkde ESLH1 at about £59.99 with adjustable jaws, and the Harbour single at about £23.99. FISA’s cross-cutting sheet treats a bearer under the timber as part of the job. The cradle is a poor door stand. Teeth will scar a finished edge, and a single frame will not support a sheet at two ends. The Harbour single’s middle strut, which one reviewer found in the way of a full cut, is a chainsaw problem. Diameter and the clothing list live on the chainsaw saw horse page. Which cradle to rank first is the best log saw horse page.

What a trestle pair does

A trestle supports a long piece in two places. In this capture the pairs are the BORA PM-3350T at about £76.74, the height-adjustable BORA PM-3360T at about £90.00, the Evolution twin pack at about £44.98, the Stanley polypropylene pair at about £39.95, the Harbour pair at about £33.99, and the B2C plastic pair at about £36.29. The Roughneck COLT 600E is a trestle sold as one horse at about £67.97. A sheet needs a second purchase. Reviewers use these pairs for ply, doors, laminate, and a temporary bench. A flat top will let a wet trunk roll into the bar. The Harbour pair is the clearest example: the title still talks about logs and the bullets describe a non-slip top at 125 kg each, not teeth. Plastic, on the Stanley, is a light door stand with a 450 kg title and a 45 kg bullet on the same listing.

The choice

If you are cross-cutting rounds with a chainsaw, buy a cradle, and use the best-log page to choose between the Oregon’s review sample and the Einhell’s 300 mm and height steps. If you are cutting ply, trimming doors, or building a temporary bench, buy a trestle pair, and buy two Roughnecks if you like that single. Do not buy the Harbour pair thinking it is the Harbour log horse. The ASINs are B0CYHFG1VV and B0CYHBNJ3M. If you truly do both jobs, buy the cradle first. The chainsaw round is the job that goes wrong on the wrong stand. Add a trestle pair only when the sheet work is real and regular. Teeth damage a door. A flat top drops a log. We are not calling either type the winner for every reader. The condition is the cut in front of you this weekend.

Common questions

Can one horse do firewood and doors?
Not well. A cradle’s teeth mark a door and support only one point. A trestle’s flat top lets a round roll, and one trestle is only half the support a door needs. If both jobs are real, own one cradle and a pair.
Why do Amazon results mix them?
Because the category is called saw horses and the titles borrow both jobs. Bestseller rank then puts a trestle pair above a log cradle without judging firewood. Read the grip and the pack count. Teeth and a single frame point to logs. A pair and a flat top point to doors and sheet.
If I cut logs, which type?
A cradle. In this set that is Oregon, Einhell, Relaxdays, eSkde, or the Harbour single B0CYHBNJ3M. Oregon states 27 cm. Einhell states 300 mm. The other three do not print a diameter. A BORA, Stanley, or Evolution pair is the wrong type for a chainsaw round.
If I cut ply and hang doors, which type?
A trestle pair. BORA, Evolution, Stanley, the Harbour pair, and the B2C pair are sold as two supports. The Roughneck is one, so you need a second. Measure any 2x4 slot against the timber you own. Teeth from a log cradle will scar the door.
Is the Harbour pair the same as the Harbour log horse?
No. B0CYHBNJ3M is the single with serrated teeth, at about £23.99, and it does not state a load. B0CYHFG1VV is the pair at about £33.99, with a non-slip top and 125 kg stated on each frame. The titles sound alike. The grip does not.
Do I need two Roughneck horses?
Yes, if the job is a door or a sheet. The COLT 600E is one trestle at about £67.97. Two of them are a different sum from a BORA pair at about £76.74 or £90.00. One Roughneck does not become a cradle because you only bought one.
What if I truly do both jobs?
Buy the cradle for the chainsaw work first, because that is the stand that prevents a roll into the bar, and add a trestle pair when you actually handle doors or sheet often enough to justify it. The Oregon or the Einhell plus a pair is two purchases.
