Fiskars Xsharp

Updated: 22 October 2026

You own a Fiskars axe or hatchet, the edge has gone dull on ordinary wood, and amazon.co.uk is showing the Fiskars Xsharp, ASIN B006QIPLFO, at about £9.07. Use it to keep a Fiskars-style flat bit keen. Leave it when the edge is dead, the bit is curved, or a chip has taken a piece out of the steel. The [ax sharpener comparison](/hub/forestry-tools/ax-sharpener) holds the rest of the shelf. Peter F. read the listing and the UK review themes, with the star recheck on 21 October 2026. What B006QIPLFO is on amazon.co.uk

The listing UK shoppers see is model 1000601, a guided sharpener with a ceramic head and a glass-fibre-reinforced plastic housing. The capture shows about 90 g and £9.07. The listing does not print a grit or a lubricant. The warranty field says no warranty. Stars are 4.2 from 9,076 reviews. A recheck on 21 October 2026 still showed 4.2, from about 9,084. Circles and burrs on a freehand stone are how to sharpen an axe.

What UK reviewers repeat

UK reviews praise the Xsharp on Fiskars axes. An X5 hatchet and an X7 come up, and reviewers also mention the knife opening. It works on a Fiskars when the edge has not been allowed to die. The same sample sends a fully blunt edge back to a stone. Several reviewers call the housing light, flimsy, or poorly made. Others call it sturdy enough if it is not dropped. Axe & Tool’s guide agrees on a dull or rolled Fiskars edge and on small nicks, and finds the slot inconsistent on a curved non-Fiskars bit.

Do not publish one angle

No single angle should be printed as the angle of this slot. A Fiskars reply reported by a US retailer said 30 degrees. A Fiskars South Africa page said 42.6 degrees included. Knivesandtools lists 20 and 40 degrees and describes carbide, while the amazon.co.uk listing says ceramic. The South Africa page is not the UK product page, and the carbide line conflicts with the ceramic head on B006QIPLFO. If the slot changes the geometry, stop and move to a puck you can steer. Gränsfors’s warning applies: a grind that no longer matches the bit will slip in the wood.

Chips, mauls, and other axes

A gouge, a deep chip, or a maul with a thick convex poll is outside this sharpener. Axe & Tool says the slot does not repair that damage. If the axe is not a Fiskars, or the edge is dead, use a puck you can steer. The file, if the chip has depth, is not in this ASIN list. Axe puck vs file is that decision, and the best axe sharpener UK page places the Xsharp among the other listings. A warranty field that says no warranty does not wipe out the Consumer Rights Act 2015 on a consumer purchase.

Common questions

Will it fit an X27 or an X7?
UK reviewers use it on Fiskars axes and hatchets, including an X5 and an X7 in the saved themes. An X27 in that flat-bit family is the sort of head the tool is sold for, provided the edge is dull rather than gouged. Fit means the cheek meets the ceramic evenly. A thick maul profile does not belong in the opening.
What angle does it cut?
Published figures conflict, so this page does not pick one. A US-retailer report of a Fiskars reply said 30 degrees. A Fiskars South Africa page said 42.6 degrees included, and that page is not the UK listing. Another retailer lists 20 and 40, in a description that also says carbide, while amazon.co.uk says ceramic. Follow the bevel on your axe.
Ceramic or carbide?
The amazon.co.uk listing for B006QIPLFO describes a ceramic head in a glass-fibre plastic housing. That is the abrasive on this ASIN. A different retailer’s text that says carbide does not rewrite the UK bullets. Ceramic on this housing will hone a dull Fiskars edge. It will still not rebuild a chip.
Can it repair a chip?
It can freshen a small nick on a Fiskars edge that is otherwise sound, which is the limit Axe & Tool describes. It cannot repair a gouge or a deep missing piece. Reviewers who started with a fully blunt edge put the axe back on a stone. If you can park a fingernail in the notch, the Xsharp is the wrong first purchase. The slot assumes there is still an edge to follow.
Why do reviews call it flimsy?
Several UK reviews call the housing light, flimsy, or poorly made. The object weighs about 90 g, so the plastic feels slight next to a heavier puck. Other reviewers call it sturdy if it is not dropped, which matches a 2015 Arbtalk pattern. That thread is old. Dropping it, or using it as a lever on a dead edge, is the use those reviews warn about.
Is there a warranty?
The amazon.co.uk warranty field for this listing says no warranty. That is the manufacturer line on the page, not a statement that a UK consumer has no rights. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 can still give a remedy against the seller when goods are not of satisfactory quality or not as described. It does not cover a drop the reviews already flag.
Can I use it on a maul?
A maul is a poor match. The opening expects a flatter Fiskars-style bit, and a maul’s cheek is a different thickness and curve. Forcing it flexes the housing and flats a profile that wants to stay as forged. Gränsfors warns that a grind which does not match the job will slip. Hone a maul with a puck, or with a file if the chip has depth.
What should I buy if my axe is not a Fiskars?
Buy a puck you can steer. The Lansky at about £11.33 has the largest UK review sample, with no grit number and no pouch in the included line. The Bacher at about £15.99 prints 120 and 600 and includes a leather pouch, and reviewers report snap failures on that case. Skip both and buy a file first if the edge has a crater. The pocket SHARPAL 129N is not the stand-in. One UK review said it did not touch an axe.
