Silicone profiling kit: which shape to buy

Updated: 21 October 2026

You have a cartridge of sanitary silicone and an amazon.co.uk title that says 11 piece or 23 shapes. Neither line tells you whether the kit will cut out last year's bead or only wipe a fresh one. A silicone profiling kit is a set of shaped edges, and only some sets also include guides and a remover. This page sorts the shelf into three kit types before you compare listings. Prices are the amazon.co.uk shelf on 19 October 2026 and they move. The [joint smoother comparison](/hub/flooring-tools-and-accessories/joint-smoother) holds the current rows and review counts. Peter F. did not tool a joint in a lab. A qualifying amazon.co.uk purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Three kits, not one product

A silicone profiling kit on this shelf is one of three shapes. Profiler-only sets are five plastic or TPR paddles and no scraper. You use them once the old silicone is gone and the new bead is still wet. A pocket fan is the second shape. The wolfcraft 4332000 is five polypropylene smoothers, and a UK reviewer who expected flexible rubber found solid plastic, a poor match on a bowed rim. The third shape is five finishers, two guides and a remover with three blades. ORHOMELIFE, iLitLuk and the unreviewed DBABPUXJ listing all use that layout. If the joint is already clean, those extra parts stay in the box that afternoon.

What the pound bands buy

On 19 October 2026 these amazon.co.uk rows ran from about £4.49 to about £11.98. Under about £7 you are almost always buying profiles only. From about £8.99 upwards the rows are mostly the 11-piece shape. A 5.0 from one review is not a sample beside a file of several hundred. Cramer Profiling Kit 7 is a different object. A Toolstation snippet for code AC287 showed £26.39, and Sealants Online listed it at £19.49 including VAT. Re-check those counters. None of the amazon clones here is that kit.

Guides, edges, and the box

Guides earn their place on a bath-to-tile corner, where a flat smoother drops into the grout and drags a groove. On a long straight window board or worktop you can live without them. Edge feel is the complaint that repeats. UK reviewers who already own a Cramer-style set call the ORHOMELIFE finishers stiffer, so the bead smears. People who seal every day say those edges soften and follow the tile. wolfcraft's fan is the opposite problem: solid polypropylene that does not hug an uneven rim. Presch reviewers describe a stiff edge that is still soft enough for a sink or a bath. There is no lab ranking of hardness. A missing advertised box is a parcel complaint, not a test of that plastic.

What to leave out

Leave the metal blade off an acrylic bath. Listings that say the rigid silicone tools will not scratch tiles or glass do not say the metal blades are safe on acrylic. Cramer's Kit 7 method keeps the knife off acrylic. A plastic scraper is slower, and it is the tool for a plastic bath. The metal blade is for glaze and glass you have tried in a hidden spot. A silicone profiling kit does not need a UK plug or a UKCA mark. These are hand tools. One wolfcraft catalogue field says AC on the pocket fan, which conflicts with a plastic hand tool and should be ignored.

Which type to take to the comparison

Take a profiler-only set if the old bead is already out. Read Presch if you want a box the reviews mention. RAVN HAMAN is the best value row among large review counts, with the missing-box complaint attached. Take the wolfcraft fan for a pocket set and accept a rigid edge. Take an 11-piece kit if this job cuts out old silicone and crosses grout, and treat an unreviewed contents list as a list. Skip the clone if you seal every day and want the Cramer kit this comparison did not test. The best sealant finishing tool page names who each pick is for. A bath that must be filled first belongs on the silicone around a bath page.

Common questions

Do I need a remover or only smoothers?
You need a remover when the old bead is still in the joint. A five-piece finishing set, including Presch and RAVN HAMAN, does not include one. An 11-piece kit lists a scraper with three blades as well as the finishers. If the joint is already clean and dry, the remover is weight you will not use on that bead. It is the piece you will want the next time the silicone goes black.
What does 23 shapes actually mean?
It means several cut edges on a small number of tools, usually five. It does not mean twenty-three separate smoothers, and it does not mean the listing has printed a radius in millimetres. Presch's 23 joint types are edges on five tools with knobs. If you need a numbered chamfer, the wolfcraft fan's maker page is the place that publishes 5, 8, 10 and 16 mm.
Is a pocket fan enough behind a tap?
It can be, if the published radii match the gap and the surfaces are even enough for a rigid edge. The wolfcraft 4332000 is 46 g, and the millimetres sit on the maker's UK shop page rather than in the amazon bullets. It will not remove old silicone, and a UK reviewer found it too solid on an uneven surface. Behind a tap you still cut the nozzle to the profile you chose.
Why do some boxes never arrive?
Because the title advertises a case and the parcel is a bag. That pattern is in the RAVN HAMAN reviews, and a verified iLitLuk review says three parts were missing. That is a Consumer Rights Act 2015 point about the parcel, not a test of the plastic. Photograph the contents against the bullet list on the day it arrives and query the seller while the listing still shows the box.
Are spare nozzles going to fit a UK cartridge?
Do not assume they will. UK reviews on the Stone Reef listing say the extra gun tubes did not fit UK cartridges. A profiling paddle does not depend on those nozzles. Try one nozzle on the cartridge you already own before you throw the smoother out with the bag.
