Spain flag buying guide

Updated: October 2026

The thumbnails all show red, yellow, and red, and you still do not know whether you need one cloth for a pole, a string for a fence, or flags on sticks. This Spain flag buying guide takes that choice in order: the job, then the coat of arms, then the centimetres, then the cloth. Prices and rows are on the [Spain flag](/hub/flags/spain-flag) comparison. If you already know the format, use the [best Spain flag](/hub/flags/spain-flag/sub/spain-flag-best) page. The Products Compared editorial team read the staged amazon.co.uk listings on 19 October 2026. This is not a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the job

The first split is what the flag has to do. A garden pole or a balcony rope needs one rectangle with rings on the hoist, the edge that meets the pole. A wall where every corner is tied needs four eyelets, not two. A hall or a garden line needs bunting, thirty small flags on a tape. Hands at a television need sticks. In this set the large flags sit at about £4.49 to £7.45, the two 10 m strings at £5.29 and £5.89, and the ten-flag stick pack at £4.99. A £5.29 string will not fly on a pole, and a £4.49 hoist flag will not dress 10 m of fence.

Shield or stripes only

Spanish law describes three horizontal stripes, red, yellow, and red, with each red stripe half the height of the yellow. La Moncloa sets that out from Article 4.1 of the Constitution. Law 39/1981 says the coat of arms may be added, and that flags of the public bodies named in Article 3 must show it. A private flag of stripes alone is the civil version. None of the staged amazon.co.uk titles in this set says crest or no crest. Open the gallery and look at the yellow band.

Size in centimetres

A 5 ft × 3 ft flag is the usual UK land size, about 152 cm by 91 cm. The proportion usually quoted for the Spanish national flag is 2:3. A 90 × 60 cm flag is that shape. A 5×3 is wider for its height. It is not the official Spanish ratio. In this set AZ FLAG is 90 × 60 cm at £7.45 and Shatchi is 152 × 91 cm at £4.49. Hand flags and bunting pennants are about 14 × 21 cm. Measure the pole before you treat large as a size.

Printed polyester and a size clash

Every large flag kept in this set is printed polyester, about 41 g to 70 g. Harrison Flagpoles says printed flags wear faster outdoors than sewn flags. Sewn cloths quoted by UK shops sit around £18 to £35, and none is in this table. Shatchi says hand wash only. AZ FLAG states 30°C. AhfuLife, ASIN B0C4PSXQJ8, says 150 × 90 cm in the title and 21 × 14 cm in the details. Until those lines agree, do not order it for a pole.

The order to use on the comparison

Pick pole, four-corner banner, bunting, or sticks. Decide shield or stripes from the photo, because the titles here will not tell you. Skip any row where the centimetres disagree. Treat a flag under about £8 in this set as light-use printed cloth.

Common questions

Does a Spain flag have to show the coat of arms?
Not for a private flag. Spanish law allows the shield to be added, and it requires the shield on the flags of the public bodies named in Law 39/1981. UK shops sell both a state flag with the arms and a civil flag of stripes only. The staged amazon.co.uk titles in this set do not say which one you will receive, so use the photo.
Is 5 ft × 3 ft the official Spanish proportion?
No. Five by three is the common British flag size. The proportion usually quoted for the Spanish national flag is 2:3, so the fly is one and a half times the hoist width. A 90 × 60 cm flag is that shape. A 152 × 91 cm flag is wider for its height. Both are sold in the UK. Choose the one that fits the pole you have.
Are the amazon.co.uk flags sewn or printed?
The large flags in this set are printed polyester, about 41 g to 70 g, from about £4.49 to £7.45. UK flag makers describe sewn flags as the longer-lasting outdoor cloth and printed flags as the cheaper one. Sewn examples from those shops, roughly £18 to £35, are not rows in this comparison. Do not read a polyester bullet as a sewn flag.
Which listing states crest or no crest?
None of the staged titles here states it. The Flag Shop, United Flags, and Tesco Marketplace listings elsewhere do use crest, state, or civil. On amazon.co.uk for this set you have to look at the yellow band in the photos. If the gallery is unclear, that listing has not answered the question.
What if the title and the details table disagree on size?
Do not buy it for a pole until you know which figure is real. AhfuLife B0C4PSXQJ8 says 150 × 90 cm in the title and 21 × 14 cm in the details, and a live page still showed both. A 21 × 14 cm cloth is a hand flag. A 150 cm cloth is a garden flag. Those are different objects.
When is a £30 sewn flag the better buy, even though it is not in this set?
When you intend to leave the flag flying in sun and wind for more than a short run of days. UK pole suppliers say printed polyester wears faster outdoors than a sewn flag. A £34.99 DuraFlag, or a hand-sewn flag around £18 to £33 from a specialist, is that other class. It is a limit on this table, not a product we have scored.
