German flag buying guide

Updated: 20 October 2026

You are choosing a Germany flag for a UK house, a desk, or sticks, and the photos mix a plain tricolour with a crest and an eagle. A German flag buying guide starts with where the cloth will sit, because a 15 cm desk flag, hand sticks, and a 5 ft by 3 ft garden flag do not do the same job. Listings were read on 19 October 2026. We did not fly the flags. Prices and the twelve rows are on the [Germany flag comparison](/hub/flags/germany-flag). A qualifying purchase through a link there can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Named picks, each with a skip line, are on the [best German flag](/hub/flags/germany-flag/sub/germany-flag-best) page.

Start with the job, not the star rating

Sort the format before you sort the stars. A house pole wants about 5 ft by 3 ft. A classroom or a sideboard wants the 15 cm by 10 cm desk flag, with a plastic rod and base. Hands want the stick pack. If you only need something you can see from the pavement, skip the desk flag. If you will hold the cloth, skip the 5x3. SHATCHI’s 4.6 from 2,392 is shared across the plain, crest, and eagle rows. Treat it as a parent reputation.

Size, eyelets, and the missing pole

Read the attribute line against the title. YAAVAAW and Woiltryn print 90 cm and 150 cm the other way round from a 150 cm by 90 cm title. Measure the flag that arrives before you trust the swap. Flagtex is a real smaller cloth, 90 cm by 60 cm at £7.99, and it will not read from the street. None of the garden flags includes a pole. Count the eyelets on the photo before you assume a halyard.

Printed polyester on this shelf

Every garden flag here is printed polyester, about 50 g to 80 g, between £3.69 and £7.99 on 19 October 2026. Fade-resistant and waterproof lines are seller claims. Parent reviews describe fray and thin cloth. Puffin Flags lists a sewn 5x3 at £26.25, and none of these rows states 155 gsm. A £4 print can mark a short visit. It is a poor candidate through a British winter. Hoisting and taking the cloth down are on the how to fly a German flag page.

England, the flag, and the pole

In England, a plain national flag can sit in GOV.UK’s no-consent class if it stays safe and tidy, the owner agrees, it does not hide a traffic sign, and nothing extra is printed on it. A crest or an eagle is extra subject matter. The guide does not name the German eagle. That split is the German flag with eagle page. The pole is separate: one garden flagpole up to 4.6 m does not need an application. A taller pole, a listed building, or a rented front is different.

A short checklist before you order

Choose plain black, red, and gold, black at the top, if you want the flag private households are told they may fly. Match the size to the place, and open a crest row only if that picture is what you meant. 1ABOVE and Woiltryn claim both faces. The SHATCHI lines do not. If the parcel does not match the description, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives a 30-day right to reject.

Common questions

What size Germany flag should you buy for a house pole?
For a house pole, buy about 5 ft by 3 ft, which is 150 cm by 90 cm. That is the usual pole size in UK flag shops and the size of the garden rows here. A 3 ft by 2 ft cloth, such as the Flagtex at 90 cm by 60 cm, is for a small bracket and will not read from the street. Measure a swapped attribute line when the flag arrives, because YAAVAAW and Woiltryn print 90 and 150 the other way round.
Does the parcel include a pole?
No garden flag in this set includes a mast. The box is the cloth and its eyelets. AZ FLAG includes a black plastic rod and base for a table, and yayafunfun includes 30 cm plastic sticks for hands. If a review mentions a broken pole, that review is about a different order. Budget for a pole as a second buy, and check the 4.6 m garden limit before you install one.
Is polyester enough for a UK garden?
Printed polyester in this £3.69 to £7.99 band is enough for a short spell outside if you take it down in strong wind. It is not the sewn 155 gsm woven cloth UK makers sell from about £26. Parent reviews report fray and fade on light flags. A 50 g SHATCHI left up all winter is the case most likely to disappoint. Treat waterproof and fade-resistant lines as claims, not as a measured life.
What is the difference between two eyelets and four?
Two eyelets belong on the hoist, so you can clip the flag to a halyard. Four eyelets, one in each corner, suit a wall, a fence, or a balcony where you want the cloth held flat. Runesol is the four-eyelet listing here. Spare rings on a pole can knock the cloth if you do not tie them back. Count the rings in the photo, because one review of another row found a single eyelet.
Why is a 15 cm desk flag dearer than a 5x3?
The AZ FLAG desk flag is £6.75 for a 15 cm by 10 cm cloth because the price includes a plastic rod and base, not because the fabric is finer than a garden flag. A 5x3 at £3.69 is a larger printed sheet with two eyelets and no stand. You are comparing a finished desk object with a flag that still needs a pole. The desk flag is also sold as indoor, so it is the wrong saving if you meant to fly it outside.
