Paper briquette press: what is worth paying for

Updated: 22.10.2026

Amazon.co.uk titles in this set say hydraulic, two-hour burns, and steel. A paper briquette press here is a hand tool that squeezes soaked paper. It does not put the brick on an authorised-fuel list. The 19 October 2026 capture runs from eBuzz at £19.99 to VIOLK at £133. The [paper briquette press comparison](/hub/fireplaces-and-stoves/paper-briquette-press) holds the prices. This page covers levers, weight, and the one stated thickness. Links use the tag pcuk26-21. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What the listing must state

Every press kept here is a basket and a plate worked by hand. None of the files shows a bottle jack, even where a title says hydraulic. eBuzz is 3 kg. AB Tools MVL095 and Harewood are 3.28 kg. The black Relaxdays press is 2.88 kg, the silver 2.83 kg, and the pair 2.87 kg, about one press. LUCKDANO is 3.05 kg. The maker-and-holder is 5.36 kg. lyrlody states no weight at £71.79. VIOLK states 1.2 mm steel and about 8 kg, and its package line says 1 × 1 × 1 cm. Harewood’s 10 × 10 × 5 cm line cannot sit beside 3.28 kg. Who should try one first is on the best paper log maker page.

Title words that do not match the bullets

The black Relaxdays title, model 10033819 at £32.90, says hydraulic. The bullets say two levers, the material field says steel, and the body is about 12 × 26 × 9 cm at 2.88 kg. The silver model at £34.90 repeats that pattern. Relaxdays’ own UK page also describes two levers. eBuzz bullets say steel and the material field says Paper. AB Tools MVL095 and Harewood show Paper too. That field is not proof the tool is paper. LUCKDANO and lyrlody name iron. VIOLK names 1.2 mm steel. Several listings claim up to 2 hours. One UK review on eBuzz says about 30–40 minutes.

What UK reviews say about bending

On eBuzz, 4.2 from 95 with 27 UK texts, reviewers report a bent plate, strut, or basket. AB Tools MVL095, 3.8 from 68, is reported distorted after about 20–40 bricks. Harewood, 3.5 from 14, includes a first-use bend. The black Relaxdays press shows 3.9 from 435, with two UK texts in the first 50 and a bend after about 70 bricks. The silver press is 4.2 from 159, with one UK text and a non-UK note that it deformed. LUCKDANO at £53.50 is 2.6 from three reviews, and the handles bent after about 20 bricks. lyrlody is 5.0 from one rating with no text. VIOLK has no review line. If the plate has moved, stop.

What the price does not buy

A dearer listing does not buy a legal fuel. GOV.UK says you must not release chimney smoke in a smoke control area unless you burn an authorised fuel or use an exempt appliance as instructed. Ready to Burn, under the Air Quality (Domestic Solid Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020, covers fuel that is supplied. It does not enrol a brick from a bucket. HETAS says not to burn cardboard or colour print in a wood burner. Those limits are on the paper logs and smoke control page. Pay £19.99 only after the bend notes. Pay towards £33 for Relaxdays only if you cross out hydraulic. Pay £133 only for the 1.2 mm claim, and only if you can send it back.

Common questions

What should you check before you pay for a paper briquette press?
Check the mechanism in the bullets, the item weight, and whether any sheet thickness is stated. In this 19 October 2026 capture only VIOLK prints a thickness, 1.2 mm, with a net weight of 8 kg. Then read the UK bend notes on the cheaper rows. The press does not decide where you may burn the brick.
Does hydraulic on a Relaxdays title mean a bottle jack?
No. On the black model 10033819 at £32.90 and the silver model 10046691 at £34.90, the amazon.co.uk title says hydraulic and the bullets say two hand levers. Relaxdays’ own UK page for the black press also describes levers, not a jack. Treat the title word as a mismatch until a bullet names a ram or a pump. These files do not. You are still buying a hand press of about 2.8 kg.
Which captured listing states a steel thickness?
VIOLK, at £133, is the only one. The bullets say steel sheet of 1.2 mm and a net weight of 8 kg, with no assembly. The same file has no customer-review line, and the package dimensions say 1 × 1 × 1 cm, which conflicts with bullet dimensions of about 38 × 31 × 18 cm. No other kept listing prints a gauge. The thickness is a claim to check on delivery, not a test result.
Why do cheap presses bend?
The plates are light. eBuzz is 3 kg, and UK notes describe a bent plate, strut, or basket. AB Tools MVL095 is reported distorted after about 20–40 bricks. Harewood includes a first-use bend at the same £26.23. The black Relaxdays press has a UK note of bending after about 70 bricks. LUCKDANO’s handles bent after about 20 bricks at £53.50. A higher price without a thickness does not remove that pattern.
Does the press make the brick legal to burn?
No. A paper briquette press compacts soaked paper. It is not an authorised fuel, and a dry brick is not a Ready to Burn certificate. In a smoke control area, GOV.UK allows an authorised fuel, or an exempt appliance used as the manufacturer allows. HETAS still warns against cardboard and colour print in a wood burner. The price of the tool does not change that.
