Elro 10 year smoke alarm

Updated: 20 October 2026

An Elro 10 year smoke alarm, inside these amazon.co.uk listings, is the FS4610. It is the only one sold with a built-in battery the listing says lasts 10 years and that you do not replace. The FS1801 prints 10-year and then says the included battery lasts one year. The FS1805 says five years, while the manufacturer page also says at least three. The [Elro smoke alarm comparison](/hub/fire-protection/elro-smoke-alarm) holds the packs. Peter F. read those battery fields on 19 October 2026. We did not run the cells for a decade. Only one sealed 10-year Elro in this set

The FS4610, B07ZRW6SV8, was about £21.99, 4.2 from 987 reviews. The listing includes a built-in battery with a 10-year lifespan, mounting material and a manual. The body is 11.5 × 11.5 × 2.3 cm. English-language reviews call it flat and loud enough on test to wake someone. Many of the first texts are not in English. You cannot change that cell. When it is finished, the alarm goes. The manufacturer page says the unit is not connectable and that you should not use a magnet kit. GOV.UK’s landlord booklet prefers a sealed battery where an English landlord chooses a battery alarm. That preference is not a statement that one FS4610 meets every UK duty. The best Elro smoke alarm page is where this unit is the pick for someone who will not open the case.

The FS1801 1-year cell

The FS1801 four-pack, B08FBDC458, was about £31.15, 4.5 from 7,232 reviews. The ten-pack was about £53.88, and its review texts match the four-pack. Both include batteries with a 1-year lifespan and say the battery is replaceable. A bullet says 10-year protection. The ten-pack title says 10-year sensor. You have a yearly 9 V cell and a marketing line about the sensor. Reviews describe that cell as a wrapped 9 V. A chirp is the prompt to fit a new cell. The two-year warranty is not a ten-year battery warranty. It is the top pick for a household that will change a battery, because of the UK review volume, not because of the 10-year phrase.

The FS1805 5-year claim

The two-pack was about £16.99, the six-pack about £37.60, and the ten-pack about £64.99. Each listing says a 5-year lifespan and that you can replace the battery. That is not a sealed 10-year cell. The manufacturer page for the FS1805M says at least 3 years in one paragraph and 5 years in the table. Two-pack reviews include a battery dead after about four months and another after about a year. If you bought the FS1805 so you could ignore it for five years, the reviews say that plan fails for some people. London Fire Brigade’s preference for a long-life sealed cell points back at the FS4610.

What ten years does not buy

Ten years on a label does not freeze the sensor. Scottish Fire and Rescue Service says replace the alarm around ten years because the sensor ages. A chirp on a sealed unit is the end of the cell. Replace the alarm. A 10-year cell does not add a radio. The FS4610 review that says it cannot be interconnected still stands. Scotland wants interlinked alarms and rejects user-replaceable batteries for the required system. A sealed FS4610 still fails the link. The nation-by-nation version is on the Elro smoke alarm UK law page. A 9 V alarm with the battery left wrapped protects nobody.

Common questions

Which Elro listing actually includes a 10-year cell?
The FS4610, B07ZRW6SV8, at about £21.99. The listing includes a built-in battery with a 10-year lifespan and says you do not replace it. Both FS1801 packs include a 1-year replaceable battery. The FS1805 listings state 5 years and still say the battery is replaceable. If you can clip in a 9 V cell, it is not the sealed model.
Why does the FS1801 say 10-year and 1-year?
Both phrases are on the listing. A bullet says 10-year protection, and the included batteries are a 1-year lifespan. The ten-pack title adds 10-year sensor. The parts list is the line to trust for the cell. The longer phrase is not a second battery hidden in the manual.
Can you change the FS4610 battery?
No. The cell is built in. The listing and the manufacturer page treat it as non-replaceable. A low-battery warning means you plan a new alarm, not a 9 V from the shop. Forcing the case open is outside anything these pages describe, and it drops the sealed design you paid for.
Is a stated 5-year FS1805 cell the same as sealed?
No. You can replace it, which is the opposite of sealed. amazon.co.uk says 5 years. The manufacturer page also says at least 3 years. Reviews include cells dead after about four months and about a year. Keep a spare, and do not tick sealed for life on a landlord form because the title said five.
Do you still replace a sealed alarm after ten years?
Yes. The sealed cell means you are not changing batteries along the way. Scottish Fire and Rescue Service still replaces the alarm around ten years because the sensor ages. If the FS4610 chirps earlier, replace it then. The warranty line is not a reason to ignore the warning beep.
