Silicone spray buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

A stiff patio door, a rubber seal that grabs on a cold morning, and a resin mould that will not release are three different jobs. amazon.co.uk will offer a can that says silicone for all of them. Some cans are solvent lubricants. One row is a water-based mould release. Bathroom sealant is a different product again. This silicone spray buying guide uses the ten amazon.co.uk listings in our [silicone spray comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/silicone-spray), priced in GBP as captured on 20 October 2026. We did not run a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

A silicone lubricant spray carries a thin silicone film. The solvent leaves. You pay for that film on a hinge, a channel or many rubbers. Soudal’s UK notes describe plastics, rubbers and sliding doors, and a thin coat from about 20 cm. It is not a bath bead and not grease packed into a bearing. L&S Engineers split a penetrant, a silicone spray and a grease into three jobs. The one-hour field on Soudal SP400 is not a sealant cure. Named picks are on the best silicone spray page.

The checks that change the can

Start with the materials line, then any temperature that same listing prints. 3-IN-ONE’s 400 ml page names rubber, plastic, wood, vinyl and metal. Liqui Moly 3310 is the only row with an upper temperature on amazon.co.uk, 250 °C. Soudal’s data sheet, which is not the SP400 Amazon field, quotes about −40 °C to 200 °C and says to keep the spray off brake drums, discs and any surface you later want to paint. If a row has no temperature, leave it blank. Reviews on Soudal SP400 and 3-IN-ONE say the straw was missing. Liqui Moly reviews say there is no long nozzle for thin seals.

Size and the pack-count trap

Soudal SP400 is the cheapest single 400 ml can, at £6.46, with 4.5 from 615 reviews. Everbuild’s dry silicone is £8.00. 3-IN-ONE is £9.78 with 4.6 from 2,383 reviews. Liqui Moly is 300 ml at £10.95. The two-pack is 2 × 400 ml at £9.91, with 4.3 from 19 reviews. The three-packs are £13.69 and £13.58, with five and 11 reviews and no texts. The five-pack is £20.33 and does not state millilitres per can. The £91.90 3-IN-ONE title says a pack of 2 and the spec says 12 × 400 ml. Until the basket states one number, do not turn that row into a price per can.

When a mould release is the right row

Fuchoi is £8.99 and water-based. The bullets say to shake, spray from 6–8 inches, brush the coat even, and allow about 60 seconds to dry. Reviewers describe two bottles, a cap and a brush, while the title says 200 g. It is for resin, candle and soap moulds, not a door hinge. For a lock or a rubber seal, leave Fuchoi on the shelf and follow how to use silicone spray.

Common questions

Is a silicone spray the same as bathroom silicone?
No. Bathroom silicone cures into a bead in a joint. These cans are solvent lubricant sprays or, for Fuchoi, a water-based mould release. The one-hour field on Soudal SP400 does not mean the aerosol cures like a cartridge. Use a sealant for a gap you want closed, and a spray for a thin film on a part that must still move.
When do I buy grease instead?
Buy grease when the lubricant has to stay in a cup, on a roller under load, or on an O-ring you can reach without filling the air with spray. A silicone spray is the lighter film for hinges, channels and many rubbers. If the part throws oil onto a frame, a grease or a wiped film is calmer. A worn roller still needs a new roller.
Does NSF H2 mean I can spray food?
No. On 3-IN-ONE’s UK page, NSF H2 is a lubricant for places where food contact is not intended, in and around food processing. Do not spray a chopping board, a food gasket or the inside of a machine that contacts food. H2 is not a reason to ignore the flammable-aerosol warning.
Which listing states a temperature?
Only Liqui Moly 3310 prints an upper temperature on amazon.co.uk, 250 °C. Soudal’s UK data sheet quotes about −40 °C to 200 °C, but that range is not the Amazon field on SP400. If a listing leaves temperature blank, keep it blank. Do not copy another brand’s number onto that can.
Why does one 3-IN-ONE title say two cans when the spec says twelve?
The £91.90 title says a pack of 2, while the volume lines say 12 × 400 ml and 4,800 ml. The star line matches the single 400 ml can. Treat the row as unresolved until the page you are about to buy states one pack count.
Is the Fuchoi can for hinges?
No. Fuchoi is a water-based mould release for resin, candle and soap moulds, with about 60 seconds of drying. Hinges, uPVC locks and rubber door seals belong on a solvent silicone lubricant, after you have checked the straw and the materials line.
What should I check about the straw before I rely on it?
Check that a straw is in the cap and stays on the nozzle. Reviews on Soudal SP400 and 3-IN-ONE often say it was missing, and Liqui Moly reviews say there is no long nozzle for thin seals. A wide hinge tolerates a cone of spray. A lock and a narrow seal do not.
