Polystyrene glue for models and RC

Updated: 23 October 2026

The foamboard wing is on the bench, a Depron elevator waits for a hinge line, or a hard styrene kit needs a needle weld that will not fog every clear part in the box. Polystyrene glue for models and RC is the hobby map for those materials. It is not a page for insulation boards, ceiling tiles or felt craft. Prices and the full amazon.co.uk table are on the [polystyrene glue comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/polystyrene-glue). Figures are from 19 October 2026. Peter F. did not flight-test an airframe. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Map the material on your bench

Foamboard, Depron, EPS packing foam and many foam-board scenery parts need a foam contact adhesive. Hard polystyrene kits need solvent cement. EPO and EPP airframes look like foam and still need their own check: EPP is polypropylene foam, and POR's twin-pack listing excludes PP. EPO blends vary by brand, so a scrap test beats a forum slogan. Keep two labelled bottles if you build both foam airframes and styrene kits. Mixing them is how a wing core gets a melt crater, or a kit joint gets a soft film that never welds. Scenic foam hills and hard styrene detail on the same diorama follow the same rule. If you still need the foam-versus-cement fork in one page, use polystyrene foam glue vs plastic cement.

Foam aircraft and foamboard

UHU por 50 ml is the foam contact adhesive in this set with a deep UK review pattern: £6.75, 4.6 from 847 reviews. Reviewers describe foamboard, RC foam and packaging repairs when they coat both faces and wait for tack. The twin pack at £11.82 is the same chemistry when you need volume. Both are highly flammable. Ventilate, and keep hot-wire cutters and heat guns away from the open film. Scrap-test your Depron or foamboard. At least one UK review reported foam attacked, and insulation sheets used like PVA did not hold. That is method and material fit, not a reason to switch to kit cement. Ordinary UHU all-purpose glue looks similar on a shelf and is the bottle reviewers warn against for foam melt. Buy POR by name, not by the logo alone. On a foam wing, coat the spar face and the skin face, wait for the finger test, then close the joint without sliding. If you join foam to a carbon rod or a wood spar, check that POR's sheet names that second material, and scrap-test before you commit the flying surfaces.

Hard polystyrene kits

Revell Contacta Professional is the kit cement in this set: £6.47, 4.5 from 13,778 reviews, 25 ml needle bottle. Reviewers use it on Airfix-type kits and miniatures, praise the fine dose, and complain about clogged or loose needles. The listing says not water resistant and prints a twenty-four-hour full cure. It is a cold weld for hard plastic, not a foam adhesive. Solvent cement can fog clear canopies and windows if fumes sit in a closed box. Dry-fit, glue, and keep clear parts masked or separate until the joint has flashed off. Do not put Contacta on Depron for a tiny joint. Tiny is enough to collapse cells. Directed skips for each row are on best polystyrene glue.

EPP, EPO and lightly reviewed bottles

POR's exclusion list on the twin pack includes PP. Treat EPP as outside the default POR claim unless your sheet's maker says otherwise and a scrap test agrees. Notes about foam-safe cyanoacrylate on some EPO brands are not a lab result in this file, and they are not a reason to put hot-melt or ordinary kit cement on the same foam. WAN2TLK and LAMXIN, both £12.99 for 120 ml with five and six reviews, name foam board, EVA and similar craft foams. One UK LAMXIN note described extruded polystyrene on a diorama going tacky quickly. That is interesting and still scrap-test only beside POR's 847-count file. Do not let a 4.8 from half a dozen ratings choose your wing glue.

Keep insulation and felt elsewhere

Insulation boards on a wall or roof need a board-adhesive class, not a hobby contact tube. Polystyrene ceiling tiles sit under Approved Document B questions that a craft adhesive cannot fix. Felt trims and soft craft foam belong with Aleene's Felt and Foam on the main comparison, not on an RC bench page. If your search was really which chemistry for which material, rather than a hobby bench, go back to the buying guide. This URL stays on foamboard, Depron, foam aircraft and hard kits.

Common questions

What glue should I use on foamboard or Depron?
A foam contact adhesive such as UHU POR, applied to both faces and joined when tacky. Scrap-test your sheet. Do not use kit cement.
What glue should I use on a hard styrene kit?
A plastic cement such as Revell Contacta Professional. Keep it off expanded polystyrene foam, and watch clear parts for solvent fogging.
Can I use the same glue on an EPP foam aircraft?
Not by default with POR. EPP is polypropylene foam, and PP sits on POR's exclusion list. Check your sheet's maker advice and scrap-test before you commit a wing.
Is hot-melt glue safe on RC foam?
Often it melts or crushes the cells. It is one of the shortcuts that collapses EPS-type foams. Prefer a maker-stated foam contact adhesive and a scrap test.
Do WAN2TLK or LAMXIN replace UHU POR for models?
Not as a default. They are lightly reviewed bottles aimed at foam board and EVA. Scrap-test if you want; keep POR as the documented foam contact adhesive in this set.
Where do felt and insulation jobs go?
Off this page. Felt craft is Aleene's territory on the main comparison. Insulation boards and ceiling tiles need other product classes and, for tiles, building-regulation caution beyond a hobby tube.
