Foam gun buying guide: seal, flow, and a cleaner

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are about to pay for a screw-on polyurethane foam gun on amazon.co.uk. This foam gun buying guide orders the checks: the can, the cleaner, the flow screw, the coating as printed, and a review count that belongs to that listing. The eleven guns in the [foam gun comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/foam-gun) run from about £8.99 to about £23.99 on the 19 October 2026 shelf capture. None of those boxes includes foam or a cleaner. Peter F. compared those listings. This is not a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What the gun has to fit

A gun in this set screws onto a gun-grade can of one-component expanding foam. A straw can is a different system. Its tube is the disposable nozzle, and it does not belong on this thread. Force one on and foam usually pours at the collar. Soudal's Genius Gun is a third system: a trigger on its own can, with a straw the maker says you can reseal. It is not a screw-on can for these guns either. Builders Hardware Direct makes the same split: gun-grade and hand-held cans are not interchangeable. The longer comparison is on foam gun vs straw.

Cleaner, flow and the coating as printed

Buy cleaner in the same order if the can will come off. None of the eleven boxes includes one. Acetone gun cleaner dissolves foam that is still wet. It does not clear a barrel that has cured. The flush, and when to leave the can on, is on how to clean a foam gun. Look for a rear flow screw you can set small before the trigger. A lock is useful only if reviews say it closes. Read the coating as printed. Metal, aluminium or PTFE count only when the listing states them. A line that says you need no cleaner is not a test.

Tips and a review count that belongs here

Take tips only if the technical line confirms them. Caelvix's title names four nozzles and a trimmer. The included-components field says Foam Gun only. GDUSMCN's bullets name three metal extensions and a brush, while a components line says 1. Read a review count that belongs to that ASIN. Three Preciva listings share one pool of 8,470 reviews. Do not add those counts. A 5.0 from four reviews is not a large sample. Named picks are on the best foam gun page, not in a second list.

What fails in this set

Basket leaks show up where the can meets the gun. The shared Preciva text describes foam at the basket and tips that will not stay on. Grapelet reviews include a block on first use and a gun that snapped when the buyer tried to strip it. On DAFEIKE, one reviewer had a can empty itself and needed pliers on the flange. The fischer PUP M3, part 33208, matches the UK manufacturer page. Do not merge the manufacturer's two plastic tips into the amazon contents line, which does not state a nozzle count.

Which check matters for your job

For a first can, the seal and the cleaner matter more than a coating slogan. The fischer PUP M3 is the traceable part in this set. It is not a heavy-duty site gun. Sika's sheet for the Everbuild P65 lists 0.38 kg and is a different product. Fire doors, flues, fire-stopping, a frame that has moved, and a specified cavity are professional jobs. The Health and Safety Executive notes that isocyanates in polyurethane foams can cause occupational asthma. Ventilate, use suitable gloves, and wash skin with soap and water, not solvent.

Common questions

Does a straw can screw onto these guns?
No. A straw can and a Soudal Genius Gun can are different systems from a gun-grade canister. These guns are built for a screw-on polyurethane can. Putting a straw can on the basket is how foam ends up at the collar instead of the nozzle. Keep the straw can for a job that does not use this gun.
Do I have to buy cleaner with the gun?
Buy it in the same order if you will take the can off. None of the eleven boxes includes cleaner or foam. Acetone gun cleaner dissolves foam that is still wet and does not clear a cured barrel. If you will shoot again soon, Soudal says to leave the opened can on the gun. The flush steps are on the cleaning page.
Is a PTFE or no-cleaner title enough?
No. PTFE is a coating claim where the listing prints it, not a test that you can skip solvent. GDUSMCN's bullets say residue peels without harsh cleaners, and cleaner is still absent. WORKPRO states PTFE, and reviewers still describe a trigger that dumps foam if it is bumped. Buy the cleaner anyway.
What is a lock valve worth if reviews say it will not close?
Very little, until you have seen it stop a bead. WORKPRO names a lock valve, and reviewers say it will not shut off. Lytool's valve is described as a way to push remaining foam out, and blocked guns still appear when that step is skipped. A rear flow screw you can set small is the control you can check on day one.
Why do three Preciva listings show the same 8,470 reviews?
The red gun, the black gun and the twin pack show the same count, the same rank and the same review text. That is one pool, not three verdicts. On this capture the red gun is about £16.14, the black gun about £16.99, and the twin pack about £23.99. Adding 8,470 three times would invent a sample that does not exist.
Is the fischer PUP M3 the heavy-duty gun in this set?
It is the traceable part, not a heavy-duty site gun. Part 33208 matches the fischer UK page, which describes a PTFE-coated basket and says an opened can can stay on during a break. The amazon weight of 9.85 g is not usable. An Everbuild P65, at 0.38 kg on Sika's sheet, is a different tool and is not one of these ASINs.
