Resin mould kit vs moulds only

Updated: 23 October 2026

Two parcels near £24 can do opposite things. One is silicone moulds and a bottle you still have to buy. The other is the liquid, the gloves and whatever cavities the seller dropped in. The word kit on the title does not settle it. This is the resin mould kit vs moulds only choice for the listings on the [epoxy resin mould comparison](/hub/fillers-adhesives-and-sprays/epoxy-resin-mould), using the amazon.co.uk files from 19 October 2026. Products Compared did not cure the resins in a lab. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission.

What kit means on these listings

Three boxes in this set actually contain epoxy. HeyClear at £24.99 is a picture-frame mould plus 1 litre, glitter, gold flakes, gloves, cups, a mat and a manual, at 4.6 from 860, with only nine UK texts in the file. LET'S RESIN at £23.99 is 500 ml, four silicone moulds whose shapes are not named, glitter, dried flowers, cups, sticks, gloves and droppers, at 4.5 from 3,504. The age range is Adult. ZEROMX at £23.79 is 600 ml the seller calls 1:1, a vase, a pyramid, a sphere, a cube, and a wooden LED base, at 4.5 from 179. The base's battery, mains, voltage and plug are not stated. TPTGIAR at £5.99 shows how the word kit misleads. The title says resin kit. The contents are 16 pendant moulds and 20 chains, with no liquid, at 4.4 from five ratings. Resin Pro's definition still holds: a kit means resin, moulds, gloves and steps. Read the bullets until you see millilitres. If you do not, you are buying cavities.

When moulds only are the better spend

Buy moulds only when a compatible epoxy is already on the shelf. The LET'S RESIN 18-piece coaster set at £17.99 is 15 coaster moulds and 3 holders, 4.5 from 2,399, and no resin. EPODA is £13.99, Opopark's three words are £7.99, and ZMD's six deep rounds are £7.59. You pay for the cavity and use a resin whose ratio and pour depth you have already read. A separate bottle can be cheaper per litre. On 19 October 2026 an amazon.co.uk search showed a LET'S RESIN 500 ml with mica around £12.59, near £25.18 a litre, while this mould kit was still near £23.99. A 4 litre craft resin on that search was about £12.50 a litre. Those checkouts move. The saving exists only if you already know the ratio and the depth. ZMD says casting resin, not coating resin, for about 165 ml a cavity.

When the kit is the better spend, and where it fails

Buy a kit when you have no resin, no cups and no gloves, and you can accept the moulds that come with it. HeyClear is the named frame and the full litre. One buyer waited three days for a set, and one parcel missed the mat. LET'S RESIN's 500 ml box has the review volume, and the complaints cluster on small moulds and a safety-only leaflet. ZEROMX names the shapes. One experienced user said the resin would not set and ruined other moulds, which is a reason not to tip a soft mix into a mould you care about. Skip it if you need a BS 1363 plug fact before you switch the light on. LET'S RESIN states Adult. The Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 treat plastic embedding sets aimed at children under 14 as chemical toys, with an age warning and supervision. Gloves are in the box because the Health and Safety Executive lists uncured epoxy as a skin sensitiser.

A conditional recommendation

If you have no resin at home, buy LET'S RESIN's 500 ml kit or HeyClear, and read the ratio on the bottles if the leaflet is only a safety note. Choose HeyClear when the frame and the litre matter more than the length of the review sample. Choose the 500 ml kit when you want 3,504 ratings and you accept unnamed moulds. Choose ZEROMX only for the vase, pyramid, sphere and cube, and only if you do not need to know how the light is powered. If the resin is already open, buy the LET'S RESIN 18-piece coaster set, or the shape that matches the job, and use the bottle you trust.

Common questions

I have never poured. Do I buy moulds or a kit?
Buy a kit that lists millilitres, gloves and cups, then accept the moulds inside it. HeyClear at £24.99 includes a frame and 1 litre. LET'S RESIN at £23.99 includes 500 ml and four unnamed moulds. Moulds alone leave you without a ratio, a cup or gloves.
Why do some kits have no resin?
Because the title is doing the selling. TPTGIAR at £5.99 says resin kit and ships 16 silicone shapes and 20 chains. There is no epoxy in the contents. If the bullets have no millilitre figure, price it as moulds only.
What if the instructions only talk about safety?
Then the leaflet has not taught you the ratio. LET'S RESIN starter reviews say this often, and the cup markings were hard to read. Use the ratio printed on the bottles. Do not copy 1:1 from ZEROMX onto a different brand.
Is £24 for 500 ml and moulds more than resin alone?
Often, yes. On 19 October 2026 a 500 ml LET'S RESIN with mica was about £12.59, while the mould kit stayed near £23.99. A 4 litre craft resin was about £12.50 a litre. You pay the kit premium for cups, gloves and cavities. It is worth it only when you own none of those.
What fails first in a kit, the mould or the liquid?
In this sample the liquid and the instructions fail first. LET'S RESIN complaints are small cavities and a safety-only leaflet. HeyClear has one three-day set and one missing mat. ZEROMX has one resin that never cured. Do not pour a soft mix into a second mould to test it.
Are kits for children?
Not on the evidence here. LET'S RESIN's age range says Adult. ZEROMX is titled for adults. Embedding sets for children under 14 fall under toy rules that want an age warning and supervision. Gloves are there because uncured resin is a skin sensitiser.
