Liquid lawn fertiliser buying guide

Updated: October 2026

Your front lawn has gone pale after winter, or the colour dropped after a dry spell, and amazon.co.uk is showing six liquids that all promise a greener sward. A liquid lawn fertiliser buying guide starts with the job, not the star line: is this even a feed, which season is it written for, and will you apply it from a watering can or a hose. The [liquid lawn fertiliser comparison](/hub/fertiliser-soil-and-bark-mulch/liquid-lawn-fertiliser) holds the six capture prices from 19 October 2026, from about £8.90 to about £39.95. This page only puts those bottles in a decision order.

Decide whether to feed

The RHS says most UK lawns grow well without extra feed. A bottle will not fix compaction, shade, a waterlogged patch, moss, or leatherjackets. Feed is optional colour and growth. None of the six kept listings claims to kill weeds. Weed-and-feed and moss killers are plant protection products. The HSE treats those differently from a plain fertiliser. Westland’s sheet says this liquid will not kill weeds. Liquids can act faster than granules, and the RHS notes a higher environmental impact if you do feed. If the answer is no, stop. If it is yes, match the season, then the applicator.

Match the season

Miracle-Gro Fast Green concentrate is printed March to September. The hose-end spray is a growing-season green-up, and the 2025 label is 27-0-0 with iron on that bottle only. Westland Safelawn Liquid is March to October, not in frost. The three Invigortex GreenCare titles, model GC-GFEED, say autumn and early winter. The RHS says not to push leafy growth after August, and to use an autumn formula from September to mid-October only if the lawn needs it. That split is autumn liquid lawn fertiliser. Do not buy the about £39.95 title on a 5.0 from one truncated review and call that a winter plan.

Match the applicator and the area

The concentrate pack is written for homes without a hosepipe. Westland is 50 ml per 4.5 L for 5 m². The hose bottle is ready to use, up to 100 m², and the first 50 UK reviews include failed metering, leaks, and connectors that pop off. If you will not watch the bottle level, pick a can. The longer argument is watering can or hose. Westland states about 100 m² from 1 L. The concentrate states up to 100 m² per unit, not 200 m² from the pack. GreenCare names 500 m² and 1,000 m² while every field says 10,000 ml and 5 kg. If those growing-season areas hold, Westland is about 9 pence per m², the hose bottle about 12 pence, and the twin pack about 7 pence only if each litre covers 100 m².

Read the capture before the stars

Prefer a printed nutrient mark under the Fertilisers Regulations 1991. Westland’s sheet is NPK 6-2-4 plus seaweed. The Fast Green Spray label is 27-0-0 with iron. The other captures do not print an NPK. Do not copy other green-care.co.uk analyses onto GC-GFEED. Who each bottle is for is on best liquid lawn fertiliser.

Common questions

Does every lawn need a liquid feed?
No. The RHS says most lawns grow well without feed. You feed for colour and growth when the grass is already a lawn, not to hide shade, compaction, or a waterlogged patch. If you do feed, a granular or pelleted lawn feed has less environmental impact than a liquid. A liquid is the faster-acting choice, not the default for every UK garden.
How do I tell a feed from weed-and-feed?
A plain feed does not claim to kill weeds or moss. None of these six listings makes that claim. Weed-and-feed and moss killers are plant protection products under HSE garden-pesticide rules. If the carton talks about killing weeds, you have left this comparison. Westland’s sheet also says the liquid will not kill weeds.
Which bottle matches March–September versus autumn?
Miracle-Gro Fast Green concentrate is printed March to September. The hose-end spray is a growing-season green-up. Westland is March to October, not in frost. GreenCare bullets say autumn and early winter. The RHS says stop pushing leafy growth after August. Do not use leftover high-nitrogen Fast Green as an autumn feed just because the bottle is still in the shed.
Do I need a hosepipe?
Only if you choose the Miracle-Gro Spray & Feed bottle. The concentrate pack is written for homes without a hosepipe. Westland mixes in a watering can or sprayer at 50 ml per 4.5 L. If you have no outside tap, start with Westland or the twin concentrate, not the hose-end spray.
How do I read coverage against the printed dose?
Read both lines together. Westland: 50 ml per 4.5 L covers 5 m², about 100 m² per litre. Hose bottle: up to 100 m². Twin concentrate: up to 100 m² per unit as printed, not a proven 200 m². GreenCare names 500 m² and 1,000 m² while every field says 10,000 ml and 5 kg, so do not treat those square metres as a firm cost.
Why is there no NPK on some captures?
The page uses what the listing printed. Westland’s 6-2-4 sits on the brand sheet. The hose bottle’s 27-0-0 with iron sits on the 2025 Fast Green Spray label. The twin concentrate and all three GreenCare captures do not print an NPK. The Fertilisers Regulations 1991 expect nutrient marks on the product. A blank capture is a buying gap, not a number you invent.
Can I trust a 5.0 from one review against 4.6 from 627?
No. A 5.0 from one truncated United Kingdom text does not outrank 4.6 from 627. That is the GreenCare pattern on all three ASINs. Use it as a warning to read the litres on the cap, not as a reason to skip the growing-season bottles that actually have a review sample.
