Welded mesh fence panels: what to write down first

Updated: October 2026

You are looking at welded mesh fence panels and the photograph could be a black bed edge or a flat green sheet. Those are different fences, and the listing often hides the hole, the wire, or what is in the box. The five amazon.co.uk products on the [mesh fence panel comparison](/hub/fencing-and-wire/mesh-fence-panel) were checked on 19 October 2026 by Peter F., from LIANTRAL at about £22.74 to Koknows at about £114.32. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. This page is the order of the checks, not a ranking. Dogs, rabbits and the hole they use are on [mesh fence panels for dogs](/hub/fencing-and-wire/mesh-fence-panel/sub/mesh-fence-panel-for-dogs).

Two kinds of mesh fence panel

A no-dig border is a short run of welded panels on prongs. LIANTRAL, Thealyn, Kingido and Koknows are that family. LIANTRAL is 43 cm and about 3.3 m. Thealyn is an arch of about 60 cm, also about 3.3 m, in wire the listing calls 4 mm. Kingido is titled 81 cm by 7.2 m. Koknows is 81.3 cm by 10.8 m. None claims BS 1722-14:2017. A welded sheet is a flat panel you fix to posts or peg over a gap. Flexipanel is PVC-coated mesh, 0.5 m wide, at about £36, with the height left as a range. Wire Fence lists a galvanised sheet at £40.99 for 90 cm by 1.8 m, a 50 mm hole and 3 mm wire. That is a shop price. A flower-bed edge stays with a spike set. A hole you must write into an order needs a sheet that prints it.

The four figures that have to be on the page

Height comes first. A 43 cm panel is a bed edge. An 81 cm panel is still a low barrier. Thealyn’s title says 60 cm and one bullet says 61 cm. Aperture is the clear gap. Koknows prints 4 cm. LIANTRAL prints 5 cm, and one reviewer says rabbits squeeze through. Conservation Handbooks repeat a Forestry Commission pattern of 31 mm hexagonal rabbit netting. If the gap is blank, you cannot check the animal. Kingido and Flexipanel leave it blank. Wire is millimetres. Higher Standard Wire Gauge numbers are thinner. Thealyn is the only listing here that prints a diameter, at 4 mm. The finish has to be a process: paint, powder coat, galvanised before welding, hot-dip after welding, or PVC. Rustproof is not one of them. Thealyn names a black powder coat. Flexipanel names PVC. LIANTRAL says baking paint. Koknows says rustproof. Kingido says rust-resistant. None prints galvanised after welding or BS EN 10223-4.

What these listings actually print

LIANTRAL’s 10.0 square metres does not match ten panels of 43 cm by 33 cm. Treat the panel sizes as the pack. Across 150 ratings it sits at 4.1. Thealyn’s pieces field says 1 while the bullets describe ten panels. Across 262 ratings it sits at 4.4, and the gap is still blank. Kingido prints 81 cm and 7.2 m and lists assembly required as No, without a gap or a wire diameter. Koknows’ included line says Case. Flexipanel’s 4.7 from 47 ratings is the highest star line and the thinnest specification. Stars do not fill a blank aperture.

Posts, gates and the height rule

Read the included line before you assume a post, a pin or a gate. LIANTRAL lists snaps. Thealyn lists fence panels, and a review also mentions joiners and cable ties. Kingido’s line says fence. Koknows’ line says Case, while the description talks about ground stakes. Flexipanel does not list components. A gate is not stated for Kingido or Koknows. If the run needs a gate, it is a separate buy. These packs are under 1 metre, and a listed building, an Article 4 direction or a planning condition can still remove the right.

Common questions

What should you write down before you order a mesh panel?
Write the height, the aperture, the wire in millimetres, the named finish, and the included parts. Thealyn gives you 4 mm and a powder coat, and it withholds the gap. Koknows gives you a 4 cm gap and withholds the wire. Flexipanel gives you PVC and a 0.5 m width, and it withholds the height that about £36 buys. A blank is a missing fact, not a detail you can fill from the photograph.
Is a no-dig border the same product as a welded sheet?
LIANTRAL, Thealyn, Kingido and Koknows are stake or prong runs. Flexipanel is a PVC-coated sheet, 0.5 m wide, that reviews peg or fix. A trade galvanised sheet, such as Wire Fence’s panel at £40.99 for 90 cm by 1.8 m with a 50 mm hole and 3 mm wire, is a third object, priced in a shop rather than on amazon.co.uk. Use one method for one product.
What does a missing aperture mean for the buy?
You cannot match the panel to a rabbit or a pond cover. Koknows prints 4 cm and LIANTRAL prints 5 cm, so those holes can be judged. Kingido and Flexipanel do not print a gap. Conservation guidance for rabbits cites 31 mm hexagonal netting, which neither blank has been shown to be.
Does rustproof name the coating?
It does not. A process is paint, powder coat, galvanising before the weld, hot-dip after the weld, or PVC. Koknows says rustproof, and one review reports rust at about 14 days. Kingido says rust-resistant and names no process. Thealyn names powder coat. Flexipanel names PVC. None of the five says galvanised after welding.
When does fence height need planning permission?
In England the usual limits are 1 metre beside a vehicular highway or its footpath, and 2 metres elsewhere, with exceptions for listed buildings, Article 4 directions and planning conditions. Wales and Northern Ireland use those two heights. Scotland also uses a 1 metre limit facing a road, and a 1 metre limit within 20 metres of a road under the 1992 order. These packs are under 1 metre, and the plot can still be outside permitted development.
