Security camera without a subscription: card or plan

Updated: 16 October 2026

You will buy a memory card, and you do not want a direct debit after the camera is on the wall. A security camera without a subscription, in this set, records to a card you purchase. The others keep clips on a Ring or Blink plan once the trial ends. The [security camera comparison](/hub/electronic-surveillance/security-camera) flags the fee. Prices are amazon.co.uk on 15 October 2026. A card does not change the power source, or what the lens is allowed to see.

A microSD slot is not a card in the box

The card cameras still ask you to buy the card. None of these bullets include one. The Tapo C210 at £21.99 takes a microSD card up to 512 GB. A line that says 128 GB is installed fights the sentence that the card is not provided. Ignore that line. The best security camera page names the job. The wansview K1 at £35.30 takes a TF card up to 128 GB and says local recording needs no subscription. Format it to FAT32 or exFAT. It is not water resistant. That limit is on the window or outdoor security camera page. The HomiQ W8 says a card up to 256 GB, and the table says 256 MB.

Outinput's title and the Codnida slot

Both Outinput listings take a card up to 256 GB. Format it in the app first. A US-based cloud is optional. The £39.98 title says no monthly fee and does not delete that cloud sentence. The £49.99 listing is the same PC340 with the bracket. You pay for the bracket, not for a plan. The Codnida at £24.99 also names a card, and reviews say a 128 GB card is reported as formatted and then saves nothing. If the card fails, the cheap camera becomes a live-view toy or a subscription.

What a year of Solo costs next to the camera

Twelve months at the monthly Solo price is £59.88, which is not the annual £49.99. Either figure is more than the Tapo at £21.99. A failed card is not a saving. See one saved clip before you throw away the receipt. A card does not cancel the privacy rules. The security camera buying guide puts that test before the fee. Common questions

Which cameras here record without a monthly fee?
The Tapo C210, the wansview K1, the HomiQ W8, both Outinput PC340 listings and the Codnida describe a memory card you buy. The card is not in the box. Optional cloud plans still exist on those pages. Ring's five listings, and the Blink with Sync Module Core, put saved clips on a plan after the trial. The Codnida's reviews say the card path fails, so do not treat every slot as a working archive.
How much is a Ring plan for one camera?
Ring Solo is £4.99 a month or £49.99 a year for one device, with video history described up to 180 days. Multi is £7.99 a month or £79.99 a year. Pro is £15.99 a month or £159.99 a year. Twelve months of the monthly Solo price is £59.88, and that sum is not the annual price. In 2026, Home Basic was renamed Solo and Home Standard was renamed Multi.
Does the Blink store clips on Sync Module Core?
The listing does not say so. Cloud clips up to 30 days, and person detection, are on the Blink plan, with a 30-day trial. The listing quotes £2.50 a month per device or £8 a month for unlimited Blink devices. Local storage, in the reviews, means a separate Sync Module 2 and a USB stick.
Is the Outinput no monthly fee title the whole story?
It is the local card, up to 256 GB, which you buy and format in the app. The same bullets offer optional US-based cloud storage. The £39.98 box does not include the 18 degree bracket. That bracket is the £49.99 listing of the same model number, PC340. The title removes the requirement. It does not remove the optional cloud or the cost of the card.
Why is the Codnida a weak no-fee buy?
It is £24.99 and it names a card slot, but reviews describe a card that will not keep recordings after the app says it has been formatted. One reviewer then faces a cloud plan of about £44 a year. The star line is 3.6 from 75 ratings. A slot that does not save is not cheaper than a Tapo whose reviews say the card works.
Does a memory card remove the privacy rules?
No. If the picture stays on your own property, UK data protection law generally does not apply. If it takes in a neighbour, the pavement or a communal area, it does, whether the file is on a card or in the cloud. You still store it securely and delete what you do not need. The card is a bill you pay once. It is not a legal exemption.
