How to set up wireless CCTV with a monitor

Updated: 23 October 2026

The kit is on the floor, the quick-start leaflet is thin, and the guide you found online starts by telling you to plug an HDMI lead into a television. That is the wrong first move for the four screen kits in the [security camera with monitor comparison](/hub/electronic-surveillance/security-camera-with-monitor). You already have the display: 7 inches on the Andoer and both ANNKE sets, 10 inches on the Hiseeu. This page is how to get a picture on that screen, set the clock for GMT and British Summer Time, and confirm a recording, without inventing button names. Products Compared did not install these kits.

Use the screen in the box

Quick starts that begin with HDMI fit a recorder with no display. Here the screen is in the box, so that is step one. The Andoer monitor has a rechargeable battery as well as an adapter. On the ANNKE and Hiseeu listings the screen is part of the recorder. Leave the router until you have a local picture, unless the leaflet will not show a camera without it. One Andoer review says local viewing needs no internet. That is one review, not a promise for the other boxes. Cable types are on the wireless or wired page.

Power the camera, then look for a picture

Every camera in this set is corded. Plug it in on the table and look for a picture on the included screen before you drill. Burg-Wächter’s UK kit guide uses that order for its own wizard. An Andoer reviewer found the lead too short. The four-camera ANNKE includes five adapters. No listing states a BS 1363 plug.

Set the clock for GMT and BST

GOV.UK’s police requirements say the CCTV clock must be set and kept, including GMT and British Summer Time, and that you should judge the recording, not only the live view. The College of Policing says compare the system clock with a reliable time source, record any difference, and take extra care when the clocks change. Set the recorder against your phone and write down a difference you cannot remove. Do not assume these four share a menu name for network time. Check again when BST starts and ends.

Choose a recording mode you can play back

Use a mode the listing names, then play it back. Andoer: manual and loop, after you buy a card up to 32 GB. Motion is not stated. The two-camera ANNKE lists motion detection, and a highlight also says 24/7. The four-camera ANNKE lists manual and schedule. The Hiseeu lists motion, with a 1 TB drive stated. If playback on the included screen fails, you do not have a system yet. Recorded video may be poorer than the live picture, so judge the file.

Stop before the wiring and the evidence export

Call an electrician before you open the consumer unit, run new mains outdoors, or add a spur. The four-camera ANNKE includes four surveillance signs. Where a sign should go is on the privacy page. If the police ask for a clip, you need the file, the time, and any clock error. A shop or a communal hall is no longer a household set-up.

Common questions

Where does the camera get power?
From a mains adapter. The Andoer camera is corded even though the picture is wireless, and its monitor battery does not feed the camera. Both ANNKE kits and the Hiseeu are listed as corded electric. Test the lead at the socket you intend to use. One Andoer review said the lead was too short.
Should I mount the camera before I see a picture?
No. Power the camera on the bench, confirm a picture on the included screen, set the time, record a short clip and play it back. Then mount. Configuring before you drill is the order Burg recommends for its own kits. The on-screen words will not match Burg’s wizard, so follow your leaflet for the labels.
How do I set the clock for GMT and British Summer Time?
Compare the recorder with a reliable clock, such as your phone, and correct it. GOV.UK and the College of Policing both treat the clock as something you keep, including the spring and autumn changes. In the autumn, the hour after the clocks go back can appear twice. Write down any difference you cannot remove. Do not assume a network-time menu exists under one shared name on these four kits.
What recording mode should I choose?
Use a mode the listing names, then prove playback. Andoer: manual and loop, after you add a card. Motion is not stated. The two-camera ANNKE lists motion detection, and a highlight also says continuous recording. The four-camera ANNKE lists manual and schedule. The Hiseeu lists motion. A mode you cannot play back is not a finished set-up.
Will the kit record if the broadband is down?
The ANNKE and Hiseeu listings do not say the recorder keeps recording with the router unplugged. One Andoer review says local viewing needs no internet, which is not a specification for the other three. Confirm a recording on the included screen while you are in the house. Treat remote playback and phone alerts as the part that needs the network.
When should I stop and call an electrician?
Stop if you need a new outdoor socket, a change inside the consumer unit, or a mains lead you cannot plug into an existing socket safely. Also stop if the camera will cover a shop or a communal hall, or if you cannot export a clip the police have asked for. The included screen does not make that electrical work a DIY menu setting.
