How to set up an ABUS camera

Updated: 16 October 2026

The box is open on the kitchen table, and the leaflet is thinner than you hoped. How to set up an ABUS camera depends on which of the six listings you bought, because a monitor set and an App2Cam Plus camera do not start the same way. This page keeps those paths apart. Model choice sits on the [ABUS security camera comparison](/hub/electronic-surveillance/abus-security-camera). The Products Compared editorial team used the amazon.co.uk bullets and review notes captured on 15 October 2026. No ABUS manual was available, so a step that is not in those sources is not here. Which box you opened

Look at the model before you install an app. If the box is the EasyLook BasicSet PPDF17000, you have a camera and a 7-inch monitor. The bullets say the picture comes up without WLAN, and reviewers describe the two units as already paired. Do not start by joining the home router. If the box names App2Cam Plus, you are on the other path. That name appears on the PPIC54520B, the PPIC31020, and the PPIC46520. If you are unsure which design you bought, use the ABUS security camera buying guide.

Path A: camera and monitor

Path A is only the EasyLook. Fit the camera where you can run its 12 volt lead, screw the bracket to the wall, and put the monitor where you will look at it. Reviewers say a picture appears after both units have power, without a router. You supply the microSD, up to 128 GB, and the card is not named as included. Insert it before you rely on last night's clip. Privacy masking is in the bullets. Set it while you can see the live frame, and cover any pavement or neighbour's window the shot does not need. The Wi-Fi cell is explained on the ABUS camera without Wi-Fi page. It is not a reason to force the set onto the home network.

Path B: App2Cam Plus

Path B is the PPIC31020, the PPIC54520B, and the PPIC46520. Put the phone on the home Wi-Fi first. If the camera is not found, move the phone to 2.4 GHz before you assume the unit is dead. Reviewers describe a QR code, the App2Cam Plus wizard, and the home Wi-Fi password. The PPIC31020 names an 8 GB card as pre-installed. The PPIC54520B mentions a card and does not print the size. One review finished setup at a desk and did not finish it on the wall, so pair that lamp indoors if you can. A desk session does not fix weak Wi-Fi through a stone wall.

Before you rely on it

Walk the live picture before you call the job finished. Stand where a visitor stands, then where a neighbour would stand. The ICO's home CCTV guidance says you should not capture more than you need once the shot leaves your boundary. A privacy mask, a region of non-interest on the PPIC54520B, or the flap on the PPIC31020 can cut what is recorded. None of them makes a wide shot of the street lawful. The sign and the footage request are on the home CCTV rules UK page. Stop if the camera is the PPIC46520 and the cable is 230 volts. A competent person should make the connection. A 5 volt cube in your kitchen is the job this page can describe. A 230 volt porch light is the job it hands back.

Common questions

Do I install the app for EasyLook?
The EasyLook bullets say no extra device, no internet, and no WLAN. Reviewers describe a picture on the 7-inch monitor without joining a router. Do not install App2Cam Plus to finish that set. The technical table still says Wi-Fi, which we have not deleted. Owners in those reviews set privacy zones on the screen. Remote viewing from a phone is the feature they say is missing.
Why will 5 GHz fail?
It failed for one PPIC31020 owner whose support reply said 2.4 GHz only. The bullets on that camera, and on the PPIC54520B and the PPIC46520, claim 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. If discovery fails, join the phone to 2.4 GHz and try the QR code again. We have no laboratory result that every ABUS radio is 2.4 GHz only. The EasyLook path does not use this step.
The camera is not found after the QR code. What did reviewers do?
On the PPIC54520B, more than one reviewer scanned the code, reset the camera, and was still not found. One unit had no card slot and no reset button and was returned. On the PPIC46520, one reviewer only completed pairing at a desk. Check the slot and the reset, try 2.4 GHz, and try a short lead indoors before you drill. The sources we used do not contain a firmware fix.
Can I pair the lamp after it is on the wall?
One PPIC46520 review did not finish on the mount and did finish at a desk. Pair it indoors, on a safe temporary supply, and mount it after the app can see it. If the permanent feed is 230 volts, a competent person makes that connection. A desk session does not repair weak Wi-Fi through a thick wall. The older PPIC36520 does not name the same app, so do not copy this sequence onto it.
Who should stop and call an electrician?
Stop for the PPIC46520, at 230 volts and 17 watts, sold to replace an outdoor light. Also stop if you are unsure whether a cable in an outside wall is mains. England's Approved Document P covers dwellings, and other UK nations have their own rules. This page does not say your job is notifiable. A 5 volt cube, or the EasyLook's 12 volt lead, does not need that call. A rented or listed wall needs permission before any drilling.
