Best twilight switch: one listing for a stated job

Updated: October 2026

You want one photocell for a stated job, and a clear list of what to leave. In this comparison the best twilight switch means a unit that shows about 230 V or a range covering it, an IP number, and a review line on amazon.co.uk. It does not mean a national winner, and nothing here was lab-tested. The Products Compared editorial team set that rule on 16 October 2026 from listings captured on 15 October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The ordered checks are on the [twilight switch buying guide](/hub/electrical-equipment/twilight-switch/sub/twilight-switch-buying-guide). Best means a job, not a national winner

Three gates apply, in this set only. The supply must be about 230 V, or a range that includes it, without the bullet and the table telling two stories. An IP code must be printed, not the word weatherproof. A Customer Reviews line must exist. A missing star line is a skip under this rule, not a hidden bargain. Only one of the eleven listings clears all three. A 4.5 from eight reviews on a 12 V button is a real star line, and it fails the mains gate. An IP54 body with a wide AC range fails the review gate. A 120 V pack with IP54 fails the voltage gate.

Electraline 92283 for a like-for-like 240 V wall pair

The Electraline 92283, ASIN B01C02MJV8, is a pair of white wall photocells at about £7.51. The table states 240 V, 10 A and IP44. A bullet states 5–300 lux. amazon.co.uk lists 4.4 from 1,307 reviews. It is the top pick for a like-for-like wall photocell on an existing outdoor point. Hesitate on the same page. The wattage cell says 240 W and a bullet says 1000 W, and neither says LED. The table also lists touch, an app and Wi-Fi, which the bullets do not describe. One review says no IP44 mark was seen on the body. One comment says the sheet marked green as earth when that wire was the neutral.

Wide-range or IP listings that still do not pass

The NINMORTH body at about £12.63 is the best value in this set: the lowest price after the top pick that still prints IP54 and 80 V to 305 V AC. It prints no current, wattage, lux or delay, and the title size clashes with the dimensions cell. There is no Customer Reviews line, so it fails the review gate. Flylin and Segutage both print a wide AC title against a different voltage cell, and neither has a star line.

What to skip, and the 12 V job

Skip 120 V on any UK mains point. One listing is 120 VAC at about £15.60, with no IP number or star line. The four-pack at about £19.43 states 120 V, IP54, up to 600 W incandescent and a 5–10 second delay, and it names UL. UL is not UKCA. The lux gap does not cancel 120 V. Skip 220 V bodies with no IP code, at about £14.46 and about £14.54. Neither has a star line. The B.E.G. cds-t-su at about £24.00 names a twilight switch and gives no voltage, IP rating or star line. The 12 V job is separate. ZYWUOY, about £10.59, states 12–48 V DC, with 4.5 from 8 reviews, five of them labelled United Kingdom, and no IP number. HQ TEC at about £51.29 states 12–28 V DC with no star line. After a transformer, ZYWUOY is the file with reviews, and you still confirm the colours.

If none of these is your job

No timer photocell is in the eleven. If the lamp must go off after a set number of hours, rather than at dawn, this set does not contain that control. If the Electraline limits are unacceptable, no second listing here clears voltage, an IP number and a review line together. An electrician takes a new circuit. LED wattage is on the twilight switch LED load page. Dark versus movement is on twilight switch vs PIR.

Common questions

Which listing is the best twilight switch for UK mains?
For a like-for-like wall photocell on a supply around 230 V, the Electraline 92283 pair is the only listing here that prints that voltage, an IP number, and a review line. The table says 240 V, 10 A and IP44, at about £7.51, with 4.4 from 1,307 reviews. That is a job inside this set, not a claim about every photocell on sale in the UK.
Can I treat the 1,307 reviews as British opinion?
No. The star line is the amazon.co.uk aggregate, 4.4 from 1,307. The 50 saved texts are labelled Spain, Italy, France, Germany or the Netherlands. None is labelled United Kingdom. The count shows that many people reviewed the listing. It is not a sample of UK electricians.
What should I buy for 12 V garden LEDs after a transformer?
Use the 12–48 V DC button, not a 10 A mains headline. It is about £10.59, with 4.5 from 8 reviews, and no IP number. United Kingdom texts disagree on wire colours, and one reports about 9 V at the lamp from 12 V. The other DC module is about £51.29 with no review line. Confirm polarity on the unit in front of you.
Why skip a 120 V photocell that is IP54?
IP54 does not change the supply. The four-pack that prints IP54 also prints 120 V, up to 600 W incandescent, and UL. UK mains are nominally 230 V, and UL is not UKCA. A delay of 5–10 seconds does not make 120 V acceptable on a British lighting point.
Is about £51.29 a premium twilight switch?
Not on this file. That price is the 12–28 V DC module, with no current, no IP rating, no lux and no Customer Reviews line. In this capture, about £51.29 without those lines is a reason to stop, not proof of a better module.
