Gira Friends of Hue switch

Updated: October 2026

You already have Philips Hue lamps, and you want another control on the wall that looks like a Gira switch, without running a new mains cable to that spot. The Gira Friends of Hue switch in the saved amazon.co.uk file is that control, and only that. It is an anthracite, battery-free unit with no terminals. It does not isolate a 230 V lighting circuit, and it does nothing useful until a Hue Bridge is already in the house. The other three listings in the [Gira switch comparison](/hub/electrical-equipment/gira-switch) are mains articles. This page does not choose among them. The price used here is the saved file price, £63.88, for ASIN B084NXWKMH.

What you need before this switch does anything

Senic, who make the Friends of Hue unit, say a Philips Hue Bridge V2 is mandatory for Hue equipment. A Bridge Pro is the other current option they name. Third-party Zigbee kit, without that Bridge, is not what they recommend, so this page will not claim the switch runs a non-Hue Zigbee house. You also need at least one Hue lamp and the Hue app. Once the Bridge has power and the app has been set up, Senic say the control still works if the internet drops. HomeKit, which the Amazon file also names, goes through the Hue Bridge on that same quick-start, not through a separate Apple hub you add yourself.

No battery and no mains terminal

The energy comes from the press. Senic describe it as a kinetic switch: no battery to replace, no coin cell, and no cable back to the consumer unit for this control. The saved listing agrees on the point that matters for wiring. It says no terminals. The same Amazon file also prints 10 A, 230 V and 1 W. Those figures sit beside no terminals and a 62 g body of 8 x 8 x 1.7 cm. They are not a load rating you can use to design a lighting circuit. If a room still needs the old switch to feed a non-Hue fitting, this unit does not replace that feed. It sits beside it.

Frame, rocker and IP20

The unit is built to sit in a Gira-shaped frame, which is why the title says Gira and the brand field says Senic, model 100158. Senic’s support page says most Gira System 55 frames work, and names Berker S1 and Jung A550 as confirmed as well. Only Senic rockers fit, because of the EnOcean module behind the face. A standard Gira rocker from the mains range will not. This saved listing is the anthracite one. IP20 on the Amazon file is indoor protection. Their outdoor model is a different product, with IP44, and it is not this ASIN. Mounting, on their quick-start, is adhesive, or seating the unit in the frame. Senic say that fixing is not an electrician’s job. Replacing the hard-wired switch still is electrical work.

What the saved reviews can support

The star line in the saved file is 4.5 out of 5 from 156 reviews. A later amazon.co.uk snippet showed 4.4 from 1,139, different dimensions and a dispatch warning. Do not replace the saved line with that snippet, and do not invent a UK slice of 1,139. Inside the file, two texts are marked United Kingdom. One is the click and the missing coin battery. The other says it works and is very expensive. Brand, manufacturer and model fields say Senic, 100158, while the title also says Gira. Item type is printed as Blender and included components as Televiseur. Those are listing errors.

When this stops being a Hue job

The line is the old switch. Sticking this control to a wall, or clipping it into a System 55 frame while the lighting circuit stays as it is, is the Hue job Senic describe. Removing the hard-wired Gira switch so this rocker can occupy the same opening is electrical work, and it needs the isolation order on the how to fit a Gira switch page, not a pairing diagram. If the Bridge is in a cupboard, one Hue bulb is already paired, and you want anthracite on a landing without chasing a cable, this is the listing that matches.

Common questions

Does this replace a mains light switch?
No. The saved file says no terminals, and Senic describe a kinetic Hue control. It does not isolate a 230 V circuit and it does not feed a non-Hue lamp. Leave the existing switch in place if you only want another wall position for Hue. Taking that switch off is a different job, with a lock-off and a prove-dead step.
Do I need a Philips Hue Bridge?
Yes. Senic say Bridge V2 is mandatory, with Bridge Pro as the other option they name. You also need a Hue lamp and the Hue app. They say it keeps working without internet once the Bridge has power and the app is set up. A Zigbee stick, or a router, is not that Bridge. HomeKit on their quick-start also goes through the Bridge.
Does it need a battery or a neutral?
Neither. The press generates the energy. There is no coin cell to replace and no cable for this control. The Amazon file’s 10 A, 230 V and 1 W lines sit next to no terminals, so they are not a circuit rating to design around. A missing neutral at an old switch does not help or hinder this unit, because it does not land on the conductors.
Will a normal Gira rocker fit it?
No. Senic say only their rockers fit, because of the EnOcean module. Most Gira System 55 frames are the part they say will accept the unit, along with Berker S1 and Jung A550. A mains System 55 rocker that matches your other plates will not click onto this module. One non-UK review in the file says Senic supplied aluminium double rockers. That is not a UK bundle you can assume.
Can I use it outdoors?
Not this listing. The saved file says IP20, and Senic’s indoor colours include this anthracite finish. Their outdoor model is a separate IP44 product. Do not treat IP44 on a Gira surface mains switch, or on that other Senic model, as the rating of B084NXWKMH. A porch is outside the claim.
