Makita cordless combi drill buying guide

Updated: 2026-10-23

You are about to buy a Makita cordless combi drill because the title says 18 V, and you still cannot tell whether a battery is in the box or which packs will click in. The checks that save a wasted delivery are battery family, then the carton, then torque, then the motor, then the warranty clock. We used the three kept amazon.co.uk listings, Makita UK sheets for the DHP482, DHP484 and HP457D, and the 2025 warranty terms, as captured on 22 October 2026. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Two 18 V families

Makita prints 18 V on two battery families that do not share packs or chargers. LXT is the system behind the DHP482. Makita's list for that drill runs from the BL1815N through the BL1860B, charged on an LXT charger such as the DC18RC. A BL1813G is a 1.3 Ah G-series pack, charged on a DC18WA. The voltage on the housing does not tell you the slide will fit. If you already own LXT packs, a G-series twin does not add a spare you can use. An amazon.co.uk description that pairs a DHP482Z with a DTD152Z states that those tools are not compatible with G-series batteries. The letter-by-letter split is on the Makita LXT or G-series page.

Torque after the platform

Once the family matches, read hard-joint and soft-joint torque as fastening figures, not as a clutch number and not as a concrete drill. Makita UK rates the brushed DHP482 at 62 Nm hard and 36 Nm soft, with 21 clutch settings and 13 mm in masonry. Wood on that sheet is 38 mm with an auger bit. The G-series HP457D is 42 / 24 Nm, with 16 clutch settings and the same 13 mm masonry ceiling. A lintel or a hole that stalls is an SDS job. Thirteen millimetres is a stated maximum, not a concrete beam. How to set the collar stays on the how to use a combi drill page.

Body, bits, or a twin pack

Only one kept carton is an LXT body. B07Q22BXP4 is £97.00, with 4.4 from 47 reviews. The part number is DHP482Z. The components line names a 100-piece bit set and does not name a battery or a charger. Makita UK's auger figure for the DHP482 is 38 mm, not the 13 mm wood cell on the listing. The two kits that look complete are G-series twins. B00NOURNGW, the DK18015X2, is £182.50 with 4.7 from 82 reviews, and the bullets name two BL1813G packs and a DC18WA charger. B00NBYH3YS is £180.00 with 4.3 from 48 reviews. The model field says XDT16T, the torque cell says 20 Nm, and a charger is not in the components line. If you want this family and a charger the page names, the DK18015X2 is the listing that does it.

Register it, or not

Makita UK's 2025 consumer terms give one year on the tool, or three years if you register within 30 days with the serial number, for personal use. Business use is excluded. The DK18015X2 listing repeats a three-year line when you register online. Statutory rights do not depend on that form. Then read 62 Nm or 42 Nm as fastening torque on the matching sheet.

Common questions

Does a Makita combi come with a battery?
Sometimes, and the title will not tell you. On B07Q22BXP4 the components line names the 100-piece bit set and does not name a battery or a charger, and the part number is DHP482Z. Reviews of that listing say the battery was not in the box. B00NOURNGW names two BL1813G packs and a DC18WA charger. B00NBYH3YS names two 1.3 Ah packs and does not name a charger. Read the included-components line on the page you are buying.
What does the Z on DHP482Z mean?
On Makita bodies, Z means the tool is sold without a battery and charger until a kit code or the components line says otherwise. The £97 listing in this comparison carries that part number and then adds a bit set. The bits do not replace the pack. A different seller can still bundle a battery under another ASIN. Check that ASIN's components line, because a picture of a pack on the gallery has already misled buyers of this row.
Is the DHP482 brushless?
No. Makita UK lists the DHP482 as a brushed combi. The brushless steps in the same LXT combi range are the DHP484, the DHP485 and the DHP486. Brushless on those sheets is about brush wear. It does not, on the DHP484 or the DHP485 comparison figures, give you a higher hard-joint number than the DHP482's 62 Nm. The DK18015X2 listing asks whether the tools are brushless and does not answer, so do not fill that gap yourself.
Will a G-series kit run my LXT batteries?
The packs do not interchange. A BL1813G and a DC18WA belong with the HP457D. An LXT pack from the DHP482 list belongs with the DHP482 and an LXT charger. Buying B00NOURNGW because you already own BL1850B packs leaves you with two systems and two chargers. Match the letters before you match the torque.
What if I need more than 13 mm in masonry?
Makita UK stops the DHP482 and the HP457D at 13 mm in masonry. A plug hole of about 6–8 mm in ordinary brick is the job those sheets are built around, and that diameter is a rule of thumb from UK guides rather than a Makita test. Past that, or as soon as the bit stops advancing in engineering brick or a lintel, you want an SDS rotary hammer. Hammer mode on a combi is a ratchet in a keyless chuck. It is not a piston.
