Einhell rotary hammer for brick and concrete

Updated: 2026-10-23

The combi has stopped in the wall. The bit is hot and the hole is still a dimple. An Einhell rotary hammer for brick and concrete is the piston tool for that moment, not a second combi with a higher newton-metre figure. The [Einhell rotary hammer comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/einhell-rotary-hammer) lists eleven amazon.co.uk captures, from a 1.7 J solo to a 10 J SDS Max, read on 22 October 2026. This is not a lab test, and it does not rank a winner. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

When the combi has stopped earning its keep

A combi hammers with a ratchet, often put under about 1 J. An SDS hammer uses a piston. Published bands put typical SDS Plus tools around 2–5 J. Those are guides, not a test of these Einhells. Some UK guides keep a combi up to about 8–10 mm plugs and move to SDS for regular concrete. Others say 16 mm. The stall in your wall is the signal. A glazed bit in engineering brick or a lintel is that stall. HEROCCO reviews describe hard concrete after combis had already stopped. A combi is still the better tool for timber, metal and screws. The 1.7 J TP-HD 18/17-C does not claim chiselling, so it will not chase a channel. Feed and bit lock are on the how to use an Einhell rotary hammer page.

What this Einhell set can state for concrete

Read the concrete cell as a manufacturer figure, not a result we tested. Einhell UK states 20 mm for the 2.2 J HEROCCO. Amazon leaves that cell empty. The TE-HD states 20 mm, the TP-HD 18/26 states 26 mm, and the TE-RH 28 states 28 mm. The 5 J kit and the 4.5 J 32-1600 state 32 mm. The TE-RH 40 states 40 mm and needs SDS Max bits. The 3 J kit and the RT-RH 32 print no concrete diameter. Do not invent one. A few plugs sit in the lower band. A lintel or a floor sits nearer 28 mm and 32 mm. The 40 mm tool is the breaking end, and a poor match for overhead plugs.

Dust when masonry drilling is the job

Brick and concrete dust can contain respirable crystalline silica. At work, COSHH applies and HSE’s limit is 0.1 mg/m³ over 8 hours. That duty is the employer’s. It is not a rule for two shelf holes on a Sunday. CN3 still wants capture at the hole for a short drill of about 15–30 minutes. When masonry drilling is the main job, it wants M-class or H-class on-tool extraction and RPE of APF 20. CIS36 says a general vacuum is not that extraction. A mask alone, with dust crossing the room, is not the control. Plus and Max holes make the same dust. This page states no safe trigger time.

A 230 V plug is not a 110 V site

These corded hammers are household mains, not 110 V site tools. The TE-RH 28 and the 32-1600 say 240 V. The RT-RH 32 is 230 V. The 5 J kit’s cell prints 220 V. The TE-RH 40 is mains, and the 18 V cell is a conflict. UK sites commonly expect 110 V centre-tapped supplies. Call a professional if you cannot locate cables or pipes, if the work is structural, if paid work has no dust or vibration plan, or if the hammer has kicked or lost its action. Two TE-RH 28 units would not chisel because the chuck spun. That fault belongs with the seller, not with a longer afternoon.

Common questions

When should I stop using a combi drill in brick?
Stop when the bit glazes and the hole stops advancing, especially in engineering brick or concrete, or past the small plug sizes UK guides still give a combi. Those guides often say about 8 mm to 10 mm, and they disagree on the cut-off. The stall is the evidence. More torque on the combi does not replace a piston. Timber, metal and screws can stay on the combi.
Which of these Einhell hammers states a larger concrete hole?
The listings that print 28 mm, 32 mm or 40 mm are the 3.5 J TE-RH 28, the 5 J kit, the 4.5 J 32-1600 and the 10 J SDS Max. The 17 mm, 20 mm and 26 mm bodies are the smaller end. The RT-RH 32 and the 3 J kit do not print a concrete millimetre, so they cannot be sorted on that cell. Listed capacity is not a lab result.
Is the 1.7 J cordless body enough for hard brick?
It lists 17 mm in concrete and two functions, and it does not claim chiselling. That is a plug-hole body if you already own a battery, not a chaser and not the answer when a combi has stalled in a lintel. The two reviews are not from the United Kingdom. Hard-brick comments on the HEROCCO belong to the 2.2 J body, a different tool.
What dust control applies if this is paid work?
At work, COSHH applies and the silica limit is 0.1 mg/m³ over 8 hours. CN3 wants capture at the hole for short drilling, and M-class or H-class on-tool extraction plus RPE of APF 20 when drilling is the main job. CIS36 says a general vacuum is not that extraction. Two plugs at home are not that duty. A paid day of chasing is.
Is a dust mask enough on its own?
Not when masonry drilling is the main job. HSE’s sheets put extraction or water first, and RPE of APF 20 last, with face-fit testing for tight masks at work. A mask while dust pours into the room is not that control. For a short hole at home, capture at the bit and a suitable mask are the household habit, not a certificate.
