How to use thuja oil, and when the label says stop

Updated: October 2026

You have a bottle or a tube in your hand, and the reviews do not match the bullet. Oil listings in this set say do not apply the oil directly. At least one shared Greenwood review describes a neat dab. A cream is a different pack, and Weleda 30c tablets are a third. This page follows the label in front of you. It does not add a treatment course or a dilution recipe of our own. Compare the eleven listings on the [Thuja comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/thuja). Peter F. checked the 15 October 2026 listings. If the bottle is an essential oil

Read the skin line before you open the cap. On the Deve Herbes and Greenwood oils here, the bullet says do not apply the oil directly and to dilute it with a carrier oil. A seller dilution table on a bullet is the seller's text, not a protocol to copy from this page. UK safety sources still say not to use essential oils neat on skin and not to swallow them. Thujone must not be added as such to food under the flavourings rules on legislation.gov.uk. Oshadhi says this cedar-leaf oil is not for everyday aromatherapy, and the IFPA guide lists thuja among oils to avoid in pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Bottle versus cream is on thuja oil versus cream.

If the pack is a cream

A cream in this set is already in a base. You do not run it through the oil dilution table. Phytopet's maker page says the 150 g pot is for animal use only, to apply a small amount, and to avoid broken skin or open wounds. The amazon bullets say apply on the area and do not give a number of days. Topi's 25 g tube has no dilute step on the listing. The stored headers split between slow change and no change. Jesica's three pots have no directions in the saved listing. Do not invent an application from the Kid age field. Animal limits sit on thuja cream for dogs.

If the pack is Weleda 30c

Tablets are not an oil and not a cream. The amazon listing is two bottles of Thuja 30c, 125 tablets each, origin United Kingdom on the file. You do not dilute them in a carrier, and you do not rub them on skin. Weleda's UK page says the 30C tablets have no approved therapeutic indications, that they contain lactose and sucrose, and that you should see a doctor if symptoms last more than seven days. One UK text says about 100 days did nothing for verrucas. That is a single report, not a dose to copy and not a reason to continue past the maker's seven-day line.

When you stop

Stop and see a GP if a growth worries you, comes back, is very large or painful, bleeds or changes, or is on the face or genitals. NHS advice is that molluscum usually clears within 18 months without treatment. Urgent care is the right call after collapse, vomiting, or a seizure linked to the oil. For a dog, horse, or other animal, stop and call a vet if a lump grows, bleeds, or hurts, and for a suspected sarcoid. A review that sounds successful is not a reason to delay that visit.

Common questions

Can I put the oil on the skin neat?
The bullets on these oils say no. They say do not apply it directly and to dilute it with a carrier oil. A shared Greenwood review that describes a neat dab on a verruca, including a 24-hour claim, conflicts with that bullet. It is not a method to copy. General aromatherapy guidance from Tisserand also says essential oils should not be used undiluted on skin. That guidance is not a licence for a particular ASIN.
Can I swallow a drop?
No. These listings are external oils with a dilute warning, not a food or a drink. Retained UK flavourings rules say thujone must not be added as such to food. Seller wording such as therapeutic grade does not create a swallowing instruction. If oil has been swallowed and someone collapses, vomits, or has a seizure, seek urgent care.
Can I use it in pregnancy?
Do not plan to. The IFPA guide lists thuja, also called cedarleaf, among oils to avoid in pregnancy and lactation, citing Tisserand and Young. Oshadhi says the same precaution for cedar-leaf oil and says it is not everyday aromatherapy. This page will not offer a smaller dose as a workaround. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, leave the bottle closed and speak to a midwife, GP, or pharmacist.
The listing mentions a bath. Is that safe?
Not on the strength of that field. One Deve Herbes twin-pack listing includes a bath-oil type, while the bullet still says not to apply the oil directly. Putting a thujone-rich distillate into bathwater is a large-area exposure, not a safer version of a dilute skin test. Skip the bath. If you want a ready topical instead of an oil, that choice is the cream side of the oil-versus-cream page.
What if the spot bleeds or is on the face?
Stop and see a GP. The NHS says not to put pharmacy wart treatments on the face, and to get advice if a growth bleeds, changes, hurts, is very large, or is on the face or genitals. Phytopet's maker page says avoid broken skin and open wounds on animals. A bleeding lump on a dog or a horse is a vet visit, not another layer of cream.
Do the same steps apply to Weleda tablets?
No. Tablets are not diluted in a carrier and not rubbed on as if they were the oil. Follow the pack you bought. Weleda's UK page says there is no approved therapeutic indication, the tablets contain lactose and sucrose, and a doctor should see symptoms that last more than seven days. The oil dilute line and the cream apply-on-the-area line do not transfer.
