Caravan awning tarp clips

Updated: 17 October 2026

You searched for caravan awning tarp clips because a skirt or an annexe side is lifting, and the results are three different parts. One is a screw-jaw clip that can add a tie point on a hem. One is the bead that slides into the van’s awning rail. One is a clamp that holds a pole in an old rain gutter. A hem clip does not become the others because a listing mentions caravans. The amazon.co.uk multi-packs in this comparison cost about £4.99 to £12.99 and state caravans or awnings among their uses. That is a stated use, not proof the jaw enters a C-rail. Prices and the rows stay on the [tarpaulin clips comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/tarpaulin-clips).

A hem clip is an extra tie point, not the joint to the van

The job that belongs here is a skirt, an annexe side, or a loose hem where an eyelet is missing or torn. You clamp the cloth and tie off nearby. You do not join the awning to the van with that screw. The Camping and Caravanning Club points drive-away attachment at straps, hook-and-loop, a gutter pole, or a rail and bead. Brunner’s Tarpclip at £9.99 is a separate extra eyelet, not one of these eleven rows. The cord still has to reach. Whether 15 cm is enough is on tarpaulin clips vs bungee cords. How you set the screw stays on how to fit tarpaulin clips.

An awning rail takes a kador strip

A C-rail is a channel on the van. The Club describes a bead, also called Keder, Kadar or Kador, sliding in the channel and meeting the awning through a figure-of-8. You pull the bead out when you drive away. Vango’s drive-away awnings ship with 6 mm kador, and a kit converts it to 4 mm for many wind-out rails. A thumb screw does not enter that channel. BS ENISO 8936, as the Club writes it, covers leisure-vehicle awnings, not these clamps. A forum note says a standard C-rail would not take a pole clamp. A £5 tarpaulin clip is not that kit.

A gutter clamp holds a pole, not a sheet edge

On an older van, the Club’s method is a pole through a sleeve, clamped to the gutter. Vango adds a centre clamp on a deep gutter. Kampa keeps the method to vans with a gutter along the tunnel. The clamp bites metal, not a sheet hem, and a tarpaulin clip does not stand in for it. A van with no gutter cannot use that method. A damaged gutter is a workshop job, and a cover that must stay on while you tow is outside this clip.

Sewn-in clips, studs and de-flappers are other parts

A sewn-in awning clip is already stitched to the fabric. Caravan Team’s kit at £16.49 meets that connector, and the shop limits it to temporary use. If nothing was sewn on, the kit has nothing to click into. MoHow’s de-flappers, at £12.99, grip a wind-out edge and strap to a rafter. Holdon MIDI and Delta’s Clingon at £7.50 are wedges stated up to 5 mm. The 100 kg note stays on Holdon’s page. If the awning must stay in the rail, buy the bead the rail takes.

Common questions

Will a tarpaulin clip fit a caravan awning rail?
No. An awning rail takes a kador or keder bead, joined to the awning with a figure-of-8, as the Camping and Caravanning Club describes it. Vango’s 6 mm bead, and the kit that converts it to 4 mm for many wind-out rails, are made for that channel. A screw-jaw clip grips a hem from the outside. A listing that mentions caravans has not changed the shape of the jaw.
What is a kador or keder strip?
It is the corded edge, or bead, sewn or fitted to the awning so it can run inside a C-rail. The Club also writes Kadar for the same idea. Vango states 6 mm kador for a matching rail, with a separate kit for many 4 mm wind-out rails. You pull the bead out when you drive away. A tarpaulin clip has no bead, and clamping the skirt does not put the awning into the channel.
Is a gutter pole clamp a tarp clip?
No. A gutter pole clamp holds a pole to a rain gutter on an older van. The Club describes the pole through a sleeve, clamped at the ends. Vango adds a clamp at the centre on a deep gutter. Kampa keeps the method to vans with a gutter along the tunnel. The clamp’s jaws are for metal, not for a sheet hem. A van without a gutter cannot use that method.
Can you add a tie point on an awning skirt without sewing?
Yes, if the job is an extra tie on the skirt or the hem, not a new joint to the van. Brunner’s Tarpclip, about 80 mm by 35 mm at £9.99 including VAT from Camper Happy, gives an eyelet for a rope you supply. Marketplace screw-jaw sets claim the same sort of extra point. They still need a tether that reaches, and they still do not enter the rail.
What is a sewn-in awning clip?
It is a connector already stitched to the awning, which a tie-down strap then clicks into. Caravan Team’s kit at £16.49 is built for that connector, and the shop limits it to temporary use because longer use can wear the fabric. If your awning has no sewn-in clip, the kit has nothing to meet. A screw-jaw clamp on the hem is not a substitute for that connector.
Are de-flappers the same as tarpaulin clips?
They grip the edge of a wind-out roof and strap to a rafter so the panel stops drumming. MoHow sells a set of four at £12.99. Holdon and Delta’s Clingon are wedge clips stated up to 5 mm. A general screw-jaw multi-pack is not those parts, and a shop’s 5 mm line does not become a test of the amazon.co.uk set.
