Tarpaulin clips buying guide

Updated: 17 October 2026

You are one click from a black multi-pack on amazon.co.uk, priced between £4.99 and £12.99, and the title is already doing too much work. A tarpaulin clips buying guide should settle four things before the basket: whether you need a new tie point, whether the jaw will close on the hem you will fold, what is a clip and what is a cord, and whether the stars are a large file or a handful of ratings. A screw-jaw clip clamps the edge where an eyelet is missing or torn. A 100 kg line on a different product does not travel with a £5 pack. The eleven listings, with prices captured on 15 October 2026, are on the [tarpaulin clips comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/tarpaulin-clips).

Buy a clip only if you need a new tie point

If the eyelets along your sheet are still sound, you need something to pass through them, not another clamp. Tarpaulins UK treats clips as the method for a missing or damaged eyelet, or for an odd shape, and a ball bungee or a rope as the tether that uses a hole you already have. A 15 cm loop on a rail is a different job from a guy to a peg. That split is on tarpaulin clips vs bungee cords.

Judge the jaw on the folded hem

The opening that matters is the folded hem, not the flat sheet in the photo. Where this sample states a figure, the Langaelex 12-pack and Lubastia say about 10 mm, and VirtuGro says about 1 cm. Ouligay’s bullet says about 1.5 cm, and the size cell says 33 × 12 × 3 mm. QH states a 0.47 inch hole at the tail for your own rope, which is not the mouth opening. Spacing, and how hard to turn the screw, stays on how to fit tarpaulin clips.

Count clips, cords and carabiners separately

Lumivra and Quavendrix are 10 clips and 10 ties, so a 20-piece title is not 20 clamps. The Langaelex kit is 10 clips, 15 cm ball bungees and 10 carabiners. Yuechenggui is 10 clips, bungees stated at up to 30 cm, and 10 carabiners. QH and the Langaelex 12-pack are clips only. BeoTnp’s title says 41 pieces, the split is not stated, and the listed weight is 10 g. A 15 cm or 6 inch loop suits a rail or a nearby pole. It will not reach a peg set away from the hem. A carabiner does not add reach.

Treat stars and heavy duty as evidence, not a test

Heavy duty on a £5 listing is a phrase, not a load. The only numeric loads on these kept listings are Pozaqutar at 5 kg and the Langaelex kit cell printed as 1E+1 kg (adjustable). That cell is not a test you can rewrite as 10 kg. A 5.0 from one rating, on Pozaqutar, or from three, on Lubastia, is an average with almost no text. QH is 4.6 from 710 and the Langaelex kit is 4.5 from 979. A long review file does not fill in a jaw the listing left blank. Who the clip-only file is for is on best tarpaulin clips.

A 100 kg name is a different product

Faithfull’s set of four, in high-impact nylon with a thumb screw and a 13 mm hole, states a maximum loading of 100 kg at £11.81 including VAT. It is not one of the eleven multi-packs, and it does not state a jaw opening. Holdon MIDI is a wedge for fabric up to 5 mm, with a maker’s note of 100 kg on a hemmed tarp with string and 75 kg folded. Copying either number onto these packs would invent a test. No British Standard for these screw jaws was found. If a pack arrives tiny or short, satisfactory quality is the Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 9.

Common questions

What should you check before you buy tarpaulin clips?
Check the job, then the jaw, then the contents, then the evidence. Buy a clip only where the sheet needs a new tie point. Match any stated opening to the folded hem, and count clips, cords and carabiners as separate parts. Prefer a large review file over a 5.0 from one to three ratings. Prices in this sample run from £4.99 to £12.99 on amazon.co.uk.
How wide does the jaw need to open?
It needs to close on the hem you will clamp, including any fold, rather than on the flat sheet. In this sample the Langaelex 12-pack and Lubastia state about 10 mm, and VirtuGro states about 1 cm. Seven of the eleven listings do not state an opening. If the figure is missing, measure the clip against your hem before you buy a second pack.
Why does a 20-piece set sometimes contain 10 clips?
Titles often add the clips and the cords together. Lumivra’s bullets split a 20-piece title into 10 clips and 10 ball bungees. The Langaelex kit’s 30-piece line is 10 clips, 15 cm ball bungees and 10 carabiners. You still have ten jaws. A carabiner in the same bag is a hook, not a second clamp.
Is heavy duty on a £5 listing a load rating?
No. It is advertising language unless the same listing prints a figure, and even then the figure is a claim. Pozaqutar prints 5 kg. The Langaelex kit prints 1E+1 kg (adjustable), which is not a test result to rewrite as 10 kg. Faithfull’s stated 100 kg belongs to that four-pack at £11.81 including VAT, not to these multi-packs.
Does a 5.0 from three ratings beat a 4.6 from hundreds?
No. The score is an average. The count is the evidence. Lubastia is 5.0 from three ratings. Pozaqutar is 5.0 from one rating and has no review text. QH is 4.6 from 710 and the Langaelex kit is 4.5 from 979. Those larger files include failures as well as use on covers. A perfect average on a tiny sample is not a test win.
