Best yard broom UK: checks before you trust the stars

Updated: October 2026

You are looking at outdoor brooms that all say heavy duty, and the title still does not tell you the width, the bristle, or whether the handle agrees with the table. The nine stiff push brooms in the [street broom comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/street-broom) come from amazon.co.uk on 15 October 2026, at about £10.99 to about £25.64. Check the surface, then the width, then the handle and the bristle, then the price and the stars. Products Compared read those listings and the stored UK reviews. There is no laboratory score. What you are sweeping

A street broom in this set is a stiff wide push broom for leaves, grit, and light debris on concrete, tarmac, paving, or deck. A soft indoor broom is the wrong tool on a wet drive. One Pelle & Sol review lifted moss already stuck between pavers, and one shared CLEANHOME review shifted moss on tarmac. That is loose material, not a treatment and not a wire brush. Environmental Protection Act 1990, section 89, requires local authorities and the other named bodies to keep relevant highways clear of litter, so far as is practicable. That duty does not land on you because you bought a broom. If you would have to stand in traffic, leave the heap.

45 cm or 60 cm, in one pass

About 45 cm suits a path, a gate, or a job where you want to press: the CLEANHOME 17.7 in at about £13.99, the Eyliden at about £15.99, the Pelle & Sol title at about £10.99, and the TidyBliss at about £19.99 (title 45 cm, dimension 50 cm). About 60 cm covers an open drive in fewer passes, as a rule of thumb. No file clocks a driveway. The wider band is the CLEANHOME 23.6 in at 61 cm, the JEHONN title at about £24.99, both wide TidyBliss listings at 64 cm, and the MASTERTOP at 63 cm. When the title and the dimension line disagree, keep both. The 45 cm or 60 cm yard broom page argues only that fork.

Handle and bristle, including the clashes

Sectional poles are the usual handle. The Eyliden bullets run from 127 cm to 168 cm on four poles. The CLEANHOME bullets run from 50 in to 66 in, and stored reviews describe shortening the pole by leaving a section out. The JEHONN and the TidyBliss titles state about 160 cm. Threads that unwind show up on several files. Name the bristle only when the listing agrees with itself. Polypropylene is on both CLEANHOME listings and the MASTERTOP, polyethylene on the Eyliden, and PET on the TidyBliss listings. The Pelle & Sol bullets say PET and the table says metal bristles and a wood handle. The MASTERTOP says 51.7 in and 145 cm, and stainless steel and coated iron. The green TidyBliss table says flagged and the bullets say stiff split ends. Heavy duty is title copy. No British Standard for bristle stiffness turned up for these brooms.

What the price and the stars do not prove

On 15 October 2026 this set runs from about £10.99 to about £25.64. A higher price is not a durability ranking. The snap cluster sits on the MASTERTOP at about £18.79, not on the cheapest broom. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 9, a first-use snap is a point for the seller, not a case decided here. Treat the CLEANHOME lines of 4.6 from 2,072 and 4.6 from 2,073 as one sample, and the two TidyBliss lines of 4.5 from 321 as one sample. Who each shape is for is on which outdoor broom fits the job.

Common questions

What should you check first, the brand or the head width?
Check the surface, then the width. A familiar brand on a 60 cm title is still the wrong shape for a gate. In this set the bands are about 45 cm and about 60 cm, and several titles disagree with the dimension line. Read both numbers before you compare brands. The bristle and the handle come after that, and only if the listing agrees with itself.
Is heavy duty a British Standard?
No British Standard for bristle stiffness was found for these brooms. The phrase is title wording. Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 9, still requires satisfactory quality, including durability, against the description and the price. A head that snaps on a light first stroke is a point for the seller, not a decided case.
When do you pick about 45 cm instead of about 60 cm?
Pick about 45 cm for a path, a gate, or when you want more pressure. Pick about 60 cm when the drive is open and you can steer the head. That is a rule of thumb, not a timed trial. If the title and the dimension line disagree, such as 45 cm against 50 cm, keep both figures.
Which listings in this set contradict themselves?
Pelle & Sol bullets say PET and the table says metal bristles and a wood handle. The MASTERTOP says 51.7 in in a bullet and 145 cm on the dimension line, plus stainless steel and coated iron. The green TidyBliss table says flagged bristles and the bullets say stiff split ends. Title widths also disagree with dimension lines: 45 cm against 50 cm, and 60 cm against 64 cm.
Why must the CLEANHOME counts not be added?
The 17.7 in listing shows 4.6 from 2,072 and the 23.6 in listing shows 4.6 from 2,073, with the same stored text and the same Garden rank. Adding them would count one sample twice. A remark about a manageable width cannot be pinned to one ASIN. The two TidyBliss counts of 321 are one sample as well.
Does a higher price in this set mean a tougher broom?
No. These prices run from about £10.99 to about £25.64 on 15 October 2026, in this set only. The snap reports sit on the MASTERTOP at about £18.79, not on the cheapest broom. The about £25.64 red TidyBliss shares its reviews with a cheaper sibling. Price is the last check, after surface, width, handle, and bristle.
