45cm or 60cm yard broom: which head you should buy

Updated: October 2026

The titles are not even using the same unit. One says 17.7 in, another says 60 cm, and a third says 45 cm in the title while the dimension line says 50 cm. The nine stiff push brooms in the [street broom comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/street-broom) split into those two bands on amazon.co.uk on 15 October 2026. This page is only that fork. Bristle chemistry stays on the [yard broom buying guide](/hub/diy-supplies/street-broom/sub/street-broom-buying-guide). Fewer passes are a rule of thumb, not a timed trial. What sits in each band

About 45 cm is four listings. CLEANHOME B0CLGPMQ6L is about £13.99, and 17.7 in matches a 45 cm dimension. Eyliden B09FPG7WXW is about £15.99, with 45 cm on both lines. Pelle & Sol B0GJSRN65V is about £10.99, with 45 cm only in the title. TidyBliss B0FK4SPSQC is about £19.99, titled 45 cm, with a 50 cm dimension width. About 60 cm is five listings. CLEANHOME B0BS8V2QM7 is about £18.99 next to 61 cm. JEHONN B0FC632RLC is about £24.99, title only. Both wide TidyBliss listings are 64 cm. MASTERTOP B0DPMWC4G7 is about £18.79, and 63 cm matches 24.8 in. Shared star lines are not a width test.

Where the label is not the dimension

Keep both numbers when they disagree. The TidyBliss sold as 45 cm measures 50 cm on the dimension line, so you may be storing a head broader than the title. Both wide TidyBliss listings say 60 cm and measure 64 cm. Four centimetres is enough to catch a gate. The CLEANHOME 23.6 in title and its 61 cm dimension are close. The MASTERTOP’s 24.8 in and 63 cm agree. The Pelle & Sol and the JEHONN give you the title width only. A 13 in Screwfix bass head is a different product, not this fork.

Open ground or a tight path

Choose about 60 cm when the ground is open and you can steer a wide head. You cover more per pass. If a snapping two-part head is unacceptable, do not rely on the MASTERTOP, even though 63 cm matches its title. The other wide options are the CLEANHOME at 61 cm, the JEHONN title, and the TidyBliss heads at 64 cm, with the limits on which outdoor broom fits. Choose about 45 cm for a path, a side gate, or when you want to press. A shared CLEANHOME comment about a manageable width is not a force figure for every narrow head. Width does not settle a listing that contradicts itself on materials.

Width is not stiffness and not weight

A wider head is not a stiffer head. Eyliden buyers found a 45 cm polyethylene head softer than they wanted, while three green TidyBliss texts call a wide head stiff. The MASTERTOP file praises firm bristles and also describes the two-part head snapping. Width did not prevent that snap. The heaviest table weight is the TidyBliss title that says 45 cm, at 1.92 kg. The JEHONN 60 cm title is 1.36 kg, the 63 cm MASTERTOP is 1.56 kg, and the 64 cm red TidyBliss is 1.88 kg. A wide head is not always the heavy one.

Common questions

When is 45 cm the better head?
When the ground is a path or a gate, or when you want more pressure under the bristles. The CLEANHOME 17.7 in and the Eyliden both measure 45 cm. The Pelle & Sol states 45 cm only in the title, and its material clashes. The TidyBliss 45 cm title measures 50 cm and weighs 1.92 kg. A shared CLEANHOME comment about a manageable width is a rule of thumb, not a force test of every narrow head.
When is about 60 cm the better head?
When the drive is open and you can steer and store the head. Fewer passes is a rule of thumb, not a timed trial. The band runs from the CLEANHOME at 61 cm to TidyBliss at 64 cm and the MASTERTOP at 63 cm. Skip a reliance on the MASTERTOP if a snapping head is unacceptable. A 60 cm title can still be 64 cm on the dimension line.
Why do some titles and dimension lines disagree?
Both figures are in the amazon.co.uk file and were not reconciled. The TidyBliss 45 cm title is 50 cm wide on the dimension line, and both 60 cm TidyBliss titles are 64 cm. The CLEANHOME 23.6 in title is 61 cm. The MASTERTOP’s 24.8 in and 63 cm agree. The Pelle & Sol and the JEHONN state no dimension width. Quote both numbers, and do not average them.
Is the wider head always heavier?
No. The heaviest table weight is 1.92 kg on the TidyBliss whose title says 45 cm. The JEHONN 60 cm title is 1.36 kg, the 63 cm MASTERTOP is 1.56 kg, and the 64 cm red TidyBliss is 1.88 kg. Weight and width are different checks, and these figures are table weights, not a feel test after twenty minutes.
Which 60 cm listing has a repeated snap complaint?
The MASTERTOP, B0DPMWC4G7, at about £18.79, with a 63 cm head that matches the 24.8 in title. Stored texts from a 4.0 score across 981 reviews describe the two-part head snapping on a first or second use, including a knock on a wheelie bin. That cluster is not in the other wide-head files stored here. Firm bristles for leaves are in the MASTERTOP sample as well.
Is 13 in at Screwfix the same decision?
No. That Screwfix head and bracket is about 33 cm of bass and cane, at £2.00 including VAT on 15 October 2026. It is a smaller natural head, not a 45 cm or 60 cm plastic broom. If you want the palm-fibre head, you are leaving this comparison. If you want one of these nine, use the centimetres on the amazon.co.uk listing.
