Bead storage box: choose the cell, not the grid count

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have a packet of seed beads, a few earring wires, or a film canister of miniature screws, and the photo on amazon.co.uk looks like a finished drawer. A bead storage box only helps when the cell is deep enough for that piece and the divider stays in its slot. This page is how to read a grid count, a centimetre line, and a listing that disagrees with itself. Shelf prices for the eleven boxes sit on the [grid box comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/grid-box). The figures are the amazon.co.uk capture of 19 October 2026. Nothing here was measured in a parcel. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What a grid count does not tell you

A grid count is how many cells you get when every divider is in. It is not a width or a depth. In this capture, 15 grids covers both a flat tray about 17 × 10 × 2 cm and a Gospire cell about 5.2 × 5.2 × 5.5 cm. UK reviews of the deeper box mention a Lego minifigure. Opret’s box is 17 × 9.5 × 2 cm, from a cell about 3.2 × 3 × 2 cm up to a long slot. Width stays fixed, so the 3 cm side does not become a square. Doukesh does not say the dividers move.

Four kinds of grid box in this set

Flat trays, often named polypropylene, are about 2 to 4.5 cm high. QJKEJI is three boxes at about £5.79, 17.5 × 10 × 2.3 cm. Hejo is 27.6 × 17.8 × 4.5 cm and is worded as a snack box. Polypropylene on a bullet is not a food-contact declaration. Gospire is the deeper box, about 26.2 × 15.5 × 5.5 cm at about £8.99. UK reviews use it for picks, small Lego pieces, and tackle. The title says 15 grids and the attribute says 12. LILUONGS is 60 inner boxes of 5.6 × 5.6 × 2.1 cm with stickers, at about £18.99. WYIPOLZI lists ten boxes of 28 grids, and 5.9 × 7.1 × 10.2 cm fights that pack. Frebeauty is a velvet tray with a glass lid. Dmnnlp has no cell size in centimetres. Screws belong on the small parts organiser page. Pieces on show belong on the bead organiser page.

Read the awkward line, not the friendly one

When the title and the compartment line disagree, plan around the awkward number. LAifu talks about 2 to 8 compartments and also prints 24. Opret prints 6 tons on a 190 g box. That is not a load rating. JAPCHET has no star line. A missing file is not a quiet five stars. Hejo’s texts are one from the United Kingdom and three from Germany, and the German texts are not British experience. A cracked latch goes back to the retailer. A box that only looked smaller than the photo does not.

What to leave for the other pages

This URL does not crown a winner. The deeper cell and the four-pack at about £7.99 answer different people. Prices run from about £4.99 to about £18.99. Loose dividers are a choking risk around small children. A swallowed part is NHS 111 or 999.

Common questions

Is 15 grids bigger than 8 grids?
Not by the number alone. Opret’s 15-grid box is about 17 × 9.5 × 2 cm. Gospire’s 15-grid title is a cell about 5.2 cm deep in a box about 26 cm long. LAifu’s 8-grid title is a taller case, about 4.5 cm in the bullet, and the attribute says 24 compartments. Compare centimetres, then the count.
What if the title and the compartment line disagree?
Plan for the less convenient figure until the parcel arrives. Gospire prints 15 and 12. LAifu prints 8, a range of 2 to 8, and 24. LILUONGS prints 30 grids in the title and 60 compartments on the attribute, beside a bullet that lists 60 inner boxes. A mismatch is a listing conflict, not a bonus compartment.
Do all the dividers come out?
No. Opret says length changes and width stays fixed, and that the buttons can be refitted if they come off. QJKEJI says removable compartments. Doukesh does not state adjustable dividers. Gospire says removable dividers and still disagrees on the cell count. If the page is silent, assume the walls stay.
Is a 2 cm box enough for Lego minifigures?
A 2 cm tray is the wrong height. Opret’s cell is about 2 cm deep, and UK reviews of that pack talk about beads and nails, and about boxes that felt small. Gospire’s cell is about 5.5 cm, and UK reviews mention small Lego pieces and minifigures. Measure the figure against 5.5 cm, and remember the attribute still says 12 compartments.
Should I buy one deep box or a multipack of flat trays?
Buy Gospire at about £8.99 when one cell has to be about 5 cm. Buy Opret’s four boxes at about £7.99, or QJKEJI’s three at about £5.79, when you want shallow trays. The four-pack is the worse buy above 2 cm. The single box is the worse buy when you needed four kits.
When is a velvet tray the wrong buy?
When the job is screws, drills, or seed beads you tip out and refill. Frebeauty’s glass lid and velvet lining are for pieces you want to see, and one UK review describes a squashed arrival. Dmnnlp’s drawers are for stones and small jewellery, with no cell size printed. Oily metal and a soft lining mark each other. Use a clear tray, or leave this comparison for a deeper parts case.
