Barge flashing sizes for sheets, tiles, or a patch

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are checking barge flashing sizes because the gable is letting water in, and the amazon.co.uk results look like rolls of tape. Profiled sheets take a folded metal barge. Tiles and slates take a dry verge. A sound lead or felt patch takes tape. This guide chooses the type before a width. The [barge flashing comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/barge-flashing) is where the three kept listings sit, and none of them is a 3 m folded barge. We compared those listings and public UK maker sheets, not a roof we fitted. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Which roof you actually have

Start with the covering, not the timber board. If the roof is box profile, corrugated sheet, or another profiled metal sheet, the edge piece is a folded barge: a 90-degree cover that turns over the sheet and down the gable. If the roof is tiles or slates, that edge is a verge. Streaks on the wall and cracked mortar are verge problems, and the piece that closes them is a dry verge. The dry verge or barge flashing page sets that cap against a steel barge, because the two parts do not swap. Tape belongs on a third job: lead flashing, a valley, or roofing felt that is still sound enough to stick to. A 100 mm strip along the painted board does not close tiles, and it does not fold over box profile. If you cannot point at profiled sheets, stop before you order a wing width.

Sizes that UK makers fold

For a sheet roof, the published barges in this research are 3 m long, about 0.7 mm thick, and folded at 90 degrees. Cladco's barge datasheet lists 150 mm and 200 mm wings. Coated Steel Products lists 150 mm, 200 mm, and 250 mm, with about 10 to 15 degrees of flex so the fold can sit on the sheet. The safety welt uses a little of that metal, so the cover is slightly less than the named wing. Those are each maker's figures. Keep them separate. Order 3 m lengths against the measured run, and add the maker's overlap on how to fit barge flashing so the last piece does not stop short of the ridge or the eaves.

What these amazon listings are instead

The three listings kept for the comparison fail those sizes. None is folded at 90 degrees, and none is sold as a 150 mm or 200 mm barge. Bostik Flashband is grey bitumen tape, 100 mm by 10 m. Target Control is a silver roll, 100 mm by 5 m. Winfox is a flat aluminium coil titled 4 inches by 20 feet and 0.2 mm. One review writes 4 inches by 20 inches, and the package line says 5 x 3 x 3 cm and 100 g, so the length is not agreed. A 100 mm tape has no second leg to turn down the board. If you still need a barge, leave the basket rather than pick the roll with the most stars.

What to order, and what it costs here

A folded barge in this research is a trade length, not an amazon.co.uk ASIN we kept. Sureclad publishes ex VAT examples per 3 m, including £6.21 for a 50 x 50 mm galvanised barge at 0.7 mm and £10.60 for a 100 x 100 mm galvanised barge at 0.7 mm. Those figures are trade prices before VAT. They are not a quote for your colour, your wing, or a coated finish. Sureclad also cautions on galvanised steel within three miles of the coast. Lead sheet for an abutment has no price in this file, so do not borrow a tape price and call it lead. For a tiled verge, order a dry verge for that tile. For a sheet roof, order the folded 3 m barge in the wing that still covers after the welt. For a sound lead or felt patch, the 10 m Bostik roll is the listing that names lead flashing.

Which order to place

Name the covering before you type a width. Profiled sheets take a folded 3 m barge in the wing whose cover still reaches the sheet and the board. Tiles and slates take a dry verge for that tile. A sound lead or felt face is the only job for the tape in this set.

Common questions

What width of barge flashing should I order for metal sheets?
For profiled sheets, the UK makers in this research fold barges at 150 mm, 200 mm, and, at Coated Steel, 250 mm. Cladco states 146 mm of cover on 150 mm and 195 mm on 200 mm. Measure the sheet edge and the board, then pick the wing whose stated cover still reaches both. A 100 mm tape from this set is not that wing.
Is 150 mm enough, or do I want 200 mm?
A 150 mm wing is enough when the cover after the welt still lands on the sheet and the board. Cladco's cover figure is 146 mm. Coated Steel's figure on a 150 mm wing is about 143 mm. If that cover falls short, the 200 mm wing is the published step up.
How thick should the metal be?
The folded barges cited here are about 0.7 mm. Where NHBC Standards 7.2.20 uses aluminium built into masonry, the band is 0.7–0.9 mm with bitumen paint on both sides. The Winfox coil is titled 0.2 mm. That is not the gauge of a 3 m barge.
What do I measure before I order a 3 m length?
Measure the gable run in metres, from eaves to ridge, on each open edge. Folded barges here are sold in 3 m lengths, and the fitting instructions add overlap, so the cut list is longer than the bare run. Do not measure the bargeboard alone and order tape to the same number.
Why are trade prices ex VAT while amazon prices are about £11 to £15?
They are prices for different objects. Sureclad's examples are ex VAT per 3 m for small galvanised barges at 0.7 mm. The amazon.co.uk figures are shelf prices for tape and a thin coil. Comparing those pounds as if they were the same product will send you home with tape.
