Washing machine anti vibration mat: what to decide first

Updated: 23 October 2026

The spin cycle starts and the machine creeps, or the cups in the cupboard tick. A washing machine anti vibration mat is the rubber under that cabinet, or four pads under the feet, so less movement reaches the floor. It comes after the machine is free to spin and standing level. This page is the order of the decision: format, a thickness the listing agrees, and the clashes that should stop an order. Prices are on the [anti vibration mat comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/anti-vibration-mat). Listings were stored on 19 October 2026. There is no lab test. Check the machine before the mat

Bosch UK’s note on a machine that vibrates and moves asks you to take the transit bolts out, fit the blanks, level the feet, and lock the nuts. A mat cannot free a drum that is still bolted for delivery. If the cabinet rocks when you push a corner, rubber will only copy that rock. A wooden floor is a poor surface in that same note. If the next step is opening a panel, that is an engineer’s job.

Sheet or pads

This set splits into a square of about 60 cm and four pads of about 9–10 cm. The sheet sits under the whole cabinet. The pads only work if you can reach every foot. Stored amazon.co.uk prices run about £6.49 to £7.99 for entry pads, about £11.99 to £13.99 for mid sheets, and about £27.99 to £39.99 for upper sheets. Choose the sheet when you can pull the machine forward. Choose the pads when a worktop leaves a hand’s width. The full split is on anti vibration mat or pads.

Thickness and clearance

Suppliers do not agree on one millimetre. Rubberco points a domestic washer toward 20–25 mm and prints an “up to 80 percent” line. That is supplier guidance, not a result for these listings. Inside this set the stated thicknesses run from 5 mm on Yattuyix and Veyera, through 8 mm on Loxley and 10 mm on Mario10, to 15 mm on the FUX pads and 20 mm on the heavier Mario10 sheet. A UK review of the 10 mm Mario10 sheet said the dryer water-collector door would not open. The 20 mm listing weighs 5.84 kg. Measure the gap under the worktop first.

When the listing disagrees with itself

A contradictory listing is a reason to skip, not a pair of numbers to average. Paxanpax is titled 6 mm at about £13.50, with 4.2 from 2,962 reviews, and the thickness field says 3 centimetres. The brand field says acerto and the bullets say made in Germany. Both LouMaxx saved listings show 4.2 from 3,042 and the same opening UK texts. Do not add the counts. Loxley’s size agrees at 8 mm, but the bullets say 5 years and the field says 2. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 short-term right to reject is 30 days when goods are not as described.

Smell, safety, and returns

“Odorless” and “PAK-free” are bullets. Loxley’s title says odorless, and one UK review compared the smell with playground rubber and sent it back. REACH entry 50 limits certain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons where skin or mouth contact applies. A washer mat under a cabinet is not that contact. Workplace vibration law does not apply to a household wash, and no listing here states a decibel drop. Suspended timber is a separate limit, on washing machine vibration on a wooden floor.

Common questions

How thick should the mat be under a UK washer?
There is no single UK thickness. Supplier tables suggest anything from about 8 mm to 20–25 mm, and those figures are their guidance, not a test. In this set, 10 mm and 8 mm sheets have repeated washer comments, 15 mm pads are the low-cost route under the feet, and 5 mm is thin if the machine already walks. Measure the gap under the worktop before you choose 20 mm.
Is 5 mm enough if the machine walks?
A 5 mm sheet can be a tidy layer under a cabinet that only buzzes. It is a weak bet for a machine that creeps across the floor. Yattuyix is 5 mm PVC at about £11.99 with one UK review. Veyera is 5 mm with no review line. If walking is the problem, look at a thicker sheet you can fit, or at 15 mm pads under the feet.
What if the title and another field disagree on thickness?
Do not average them. Paxanpax’s title says 6 mm and a field says 3 cm. haomeiduo’s title says Sorbothane and the bullets say EVA. Order a listing whose size lines match, or be ready to reject goods that are not as described within 30 days under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The comparison table keeps both lines so you can see the clash.
Does “PAK-free” or “odorless” mean the mat will not smell?
No. Those words are bullets. A UK review of the Loxley sheet, whose title says odorless, described a playground-rubber smell and a return. PAK limits in REACH apply where skin or mouth contact matters. They do not measure odour in your kitchen. If smell is a problem for you, treat it as a reason to return the mat, not as a defect the bullet has already ruled out.
Will a mat cut motor noise in the same room?
It can reduce what the feet pass into the floor. It does not significantly cut airborne noise from the motor beside you, which is Sound Service’s limit, and no listing here states a decibel figure. Reviewers still hear the spin. They more often report that the cabinet stopped walking, or that cups rattled less. If the noise is in the cupboard with you, a mat is the wrong tool for that part of it.
