BBQ foil trays

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are lighting the grill to keep fat off the bars, or you are about to bake in a tray that has holes in the base. BBQ foil trays only help when you want grease and smoke to move. A solid roasting tray keeps the juices. Mixing those two up is how a perforated pack gets used as a lasagne tin. The [aluminium trays comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/aluminium-trays) ranks the solid packs from amazon.co.uk. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Peter F. used the listing and public UK shop pages. This is not a flare-up test.

What this barbecue pack is

The only perforated tray in the set is CwtcHome, B0H7MFSQ8J, at £10.99. The bullets say 20 disposable barbecue trays, 34 × 22.2 × 3.2 cm, with draining holes, for steak, seafood, vegetables, and sausages, on charcoal grills, in ovens, and on gas grills. The title prints 13.4 × 8.7 × 1.3 in, the same footprint in inches, not a second size. The catalogue number of items is 1. Do not order on 20 without also reading 1. There is no star line and no Celsius limit in the file. Check the parcel count when it arrives. If you wanted a family roast with a star rating behind it, use the best disposable foil trays page, where the top pick is a solid deep tray.

Holes versus a solid tray

Drain holes let fat leave the food and let smoke come up through the base. They also mean the tray will not hold liquid. Batter, gravy, a saucy lasagne, or the juices from a joint will run through onto the coals, the gas burner, or the oven floor. Buy holes when the food is a steak, sausages, seafood, or vegetables that you want marked and drained. Buy a solid tray when you need to keep the juices. A search snapshot, not a scored row, shows the same split. Black Box BBQ sells a perforated tray around 340 × 230 × 25 mm, three for £2.99 on that page. B&Q lists 10 foil grill trays around 31.5 × 20.5 × 2.5 cm with ventilation holes. Char-Broil UK lists 10 solid trays around 21.5 × 15 × 3.4 cm for collecting liquids. Those prices are snapshots, not ASINs in this comparison. Holed trays in that snapshot sit around the low 30 cm by about 20–23 cm, shallower than a 7 cm roaster. Depth, before a brand, is on the aluminium foil trays buying guide.

On the grill and in the oven

CwtcHome’s bullets name charcoal grills, gas grills, and ovens. There is still no Celsius ceiling in the file, so oven on that line is not a temperature you can dial. Do not copy 200–260°C from a different pack, and do not treat a 660°C figure as a barbecue setting. Set the perforated tray on the grate so the holes sit over the heat you intend, not so a river of fat lands where your grill manual says to keep clear. A solid foil tray on the same grill is a drip pan. It holds liquid. It does not drain the steak. Cook and serve. Do not store a very salty or strongly acidic sauce in the tray for a long time.

Cleaning up

A barbecue tray that is black with fat is general waste. Bradford Council says kitchen foil with a lot of baked-on food from a roast or a barbecue goes in the general waste. SI 2024/666 names aluminium food trays in the metal stream, and GOV.UK says English collectors must take that metal from 31 March 2026 if the item is empty and not heavily contaminated. The date does not make burnt fat recyclable. These perforated packs do not include lids.

Common questions

What is the barbecue tray in this set, and what is missing?
CwtcHome B0H7MFSQ8J is £10.99. The bullets say 20 trays, 34 × 22.2 × 3.2 cm, with drain holes, for charcoal, gas, and ovens. The catalogue says 1 item. There is no star rating, no review text, and no Celsius limit in the file. The title’s inch line is the same footprint, not a second size. Check the parcel count when it arrives.
When do holes ruin the cook?
Holes ruin a cook that has to keep liquid: batter, a cake, a lasagne, or the juices around a joint. The fat also has to land somewhere your grill can accept. A holed tray is not leak-proof. Listing language about less splatter is not a test that was repeated here, and it does not mean the holes stop all oil.
Can the same tray roast a joint in the oven?
The bullets mention ovens, and they do not give a Celsius limit. A joint that should sit in its juices needs a solid tray. The perforated pack will let those juices through. It is a poor substitute for a 32 × 26 × 7 cm roaster. Do not copy another pack’s 200–260°C line and call it this tray’s ceiling.
How do I dispose of a greasy barbecue tray?
Put heavily greasy barbecue foil in the general waste. Bradford Council says foil with a lot of baked-on roast or barbecue residue is not recycling. A clean, empty tray is the one that can join the metal stream. From 31 March 2026, English collections must take aluminium food trays only when they are empty and not heavily contaminated.
What size are holed trays sold around?
As a rule of thumb from shop snapshots, not from a lab, holed trays cluster around 31–34 cm long and about 20–23 cm wide, a few centimetres deep. Black Box, B&Q, and the CwtcHome bullets sit in that band. Measure your grate before you treat any of those figures as a fit.
