Wall air conditioner buying guide

Updated: October 2026

Four amazon.co.uk listings for a wall-mounted split sit side by side, and each page parks a kilowatt, a tons field, or an A++ in a different place. One prints 9000 BTU, the next 12000, then 18000 and 24000. This wall air conditioner buying guide is the order of checks for those four Generic listings. The lines were captured on 15 October 2026, at £500.00, £599.99, £599.99, and £799.95. Products Compared read the fields and did not run a lab test. Read the BTU line, then the kilowatt beside it

The cooling-power line is the label all four listings share: 9000 BTU, 12000 BTU, 18000 BTU, and 24000 BTU, each still tied to its own page. The £799.95 listing also prints 24000 BTU/h (7.0 kW) inside one bullet. Lifting 7.0 kW onto the other three would invent a kilowatt those pages never printed. On the £500.00 listing the title and the wattage field both say 3.5 kW beside 12000 BTU. On the 18000 BTU listing the title says 5.1 kW and the wattage field says 5.3 kW. The 9000 BTU unit has no kilowatt title.

Leave the tons field as a field

A tons figure here is a capacity field beside the BTU line. The 12000 BTU listing prints 1 ton. The 18000 BTU listing prints 1.5 tons. The 9000 BTU listing prints 2.6 tons. The 24000 BTU listing has no tons field. Leave 2.6 tons beside 9000 BTU as a clash of labels. If the tons column overrules the BTU line, the smaller cooling-power label starts to look larger, because 2.6 tons sits beside 9000 BTU and 1 ton sits beside 12000 BTU.

A++, SEER, and the annual-energy field

A++ is printed on all four listings, and the lines around it are not one measurement. The 9000 BTU listing has A++ in the title and no SEER number. The 12000 BTU listing prints SEER 6.2. The 18000 BTU listing prints SEER 6.1. The 24000 BTU listing adds a bullet that says A+++ SCOP in warmer climates, so that line is not a UK figure. The 0.1 gap between those SEER numbers is listing text, not a measured British electricity bill. On the 12000 BTU listing the annual-energy field says 3.5 kilowatts, the same figure as the wattage. That is a rate. Multiplying it by the hours in a year would invent a total the field does not print.

What you still have to check elsewhere

Room lines, decibel lines, and fitter lines are separate checks. The £500.00 listing carries an F-Gas bullet, and this guide cites no regulation number for it. All four brand fields say Generic. A shared image URL does not make the AC12000 and the HS18000 the same model. Best-seller ranks sit in Split-System Air Conditioners and Wall Air Conditioners, so a rank cannot order these four against one another. Which listing states the job is the subject of which listing states which job.

Common questions

How do you read the four BTU lines when the kilowatt lines disagree?
Keep the BTU figure as the cooling-power label, and read each kilowatt with the words beside it. The 12000 BTU listing puts 3.5 kW in the title and the wattage field. The 18000 BTU listing puts 5.1 kW in the title and 5.3 kW in the wattage field. The 24000 BTU bullet keeps 24000 BTU/h (7.0 kW) as one pair. The 9000 BTU listing has no kilowatt title, so one power column would mix a title, a field, a bullet, and a blank.
Is the 2.6 tons field the same thing as 9000 BTU?
No. The listing prints 2.6 tons in a capacity field beside a cooling-power line of 9000 BTU. The 12000 BTU listing prints 1 ton, and the 18000 BTU listing prints 1.5 tons. You can quote each field as it stands. Rewriting tons as BTU finishes a conversion those pages did not print. The 24000 BTU listing has no tons field in the lines captured on 15 October 2026.
Is the 3.5 kilowatt annual-energy field a yearly total?
No. On the 12000 BTU listing the annual-energy field says 3.5 kilowatts, the same figure as the title and the wattage field. The unit on the field is a rate, so the line is not a quantity of energy across a year. The shelf price captured for that listing is £500.00, which says nothing about summer running cost. Multiplying 3.5 by the hours in a year would invent a yearly total the field does not print.
Can one or two reviews sort a 9000 BTU unit from a 24000 BTU unit?
No. The captured lines are 5.0 from two reviews, one with a written body, on the 9000 BTU listing, and 4.0 from one review on the 12000 BTU listing. The 24000 BTU listing shows 1.0 from one review with no written body. The 18000 BTU capture lists review dates of 6 August, 19 August, and 8 September 2026. Samples of that size do not sort cooling output, and a higher star does not repair a tons clash.
Does a shared photo mean the AC12000 and the HS18000 are the same model?
No. All four brand fields say Generic, and a shared image URL does not make the AC12000 and the HS18000 the same model. One prints 3.5 kW in the title and the wattage field. The other prints 5.1 kW in the title and 5.3 kW in the wattage field. Best-seller ranks sit in different browse nodes, so a rank cannot treat the pages as one product.
