Makita 18V work light: checks before the lumen claim

Updated: October 2026

You already own Makita 18 V LXT packs, and a search for a Makita 18V work light is a wall of bare LED heads from about £12 to £25. Some titles say 10,500 lumens. None of the twelve listings is a Makita DML body, and none includes a battery. The checks that come first are the slide, whether it locks, and whether the watt line agrees with itself. The [Makita cordless lamp comparison](/hub/workshop/makita-cordless-lamp) holds the twelve-row table. Prices and stars are that amazon.co.uk capture, checked on 20 October 2026. We did not measure light output. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

The search is two products

A search for a Makita 18V work light mixes two machines. The twelve heads here are third-party floods that claim an 18 V slide, from £11.95 for the HEXJOSGL 16-LED to £24.99 for the Tumnatt. Makita's DML805 publishes 750 lumens on high and 450 on low, from an LXT pack or from mains, and UK shops listed that body around £79 to £96. A blue head and the word Makita in the title are not a platform match. If you need a cord and a Makita repair route, read Makita cordless lamp vs genuine DML. The lumen number is the last check.

LXT slide, not XGT

The bullets name Makita's 18 V slide codes: BL1815, BL1830, BL1840, BL1850 and BL1860, often with a B suffix. That is LXT. XGT is the 40 V max platform and will not click onto these heads. CXT, the compact 10.8 V / 12 V max line, is a third foot. Makita 20 V is not Makita's name for LXT. The byczone pair names those BL codes, then the title says Makita 20 V, and reviews talk about DeWalt packs. Tumnatt spells the brand Makta and still has DeWalt review text. JADUFHU names a long BL list and has no star line, so the codes are a sentence, not a pile of UK fit reports. If your only packs are XGT, stop. No lumen claim fixes the slide.

The pack is not in the box, and it has to lock

Every ASIN here says the battery is not included. The price, from £11.95 to £24.99, is the head. Nothing here is a mains lamp. Lock is the live failure. UK reviews describe shoes that are stiff, loose, or not quite home. The Dorehouse listing, 4.4 from 320 at £11.99, tells you to sand or file the connector if the light will not mount fully. Filing can strip plating and change how the pack stays on. Stop and use the return route. The first-fit steps are on how to use a Makita battery work light. L1NXIXI reviews say a genuine BL1850 does not fully lock. A head that needs a file does not come home, and the pack comes off when you stop.

Lumens and watts are labels

Seller output runs from 3,400 lumens on the BUKATTADA to 10,500 on the HEXJOSGL 35-LED. Makita publishes 750 and 450 for the DML805, mode by mode. This comparison did not measure either. The GZYZ 36-LED title says 85 W and the bullets say 108 W. Tumnatt prints 92 W and 95 W. A page that disagrees with itself is not a brightness ladder. Dorehouse, Edtran and byczone are the only files over 200 ratings. Yikuneng is 4.6 from nine. GZYZ sits at 3.5 from 50 and 3.7 from 27. IP65 and IP67 here are the seller's sentence under IEC 60529, not a test report. An 18 V lamp sits under the 75 V DC threshold in the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 still applies to quality and description.

Common questions

Does for Makita mean Makita made it?
No. In this amazon.co.uk set the brands are Dorehouse, HEXJOSGL, L1NXIXI, BUKATTADA, JADUFHU, GZYZ, byczone, Edtran, Yikuneng and Tumnatt. The bullets claim a slide for Makita 18 V packs. Makita's warranty and the extended registration that needs a serial number do not cover these heads. You are buying a third-party lamp that uses a pack you already own.
Is the battery in the box?
No. Every listing here is a bare tool. The included-components lines say the light is without a battery. You supply an LXT pack and the Makita charger you already use. The GBP price on the page is the head only, from £11.95 to £24.99 in this capture.
Will an XGT pack fit?
No. XGT is Makita's 40 V max slide, and these bullets name LXT codes such as BL1830, BL1850 and BL1860. CXT packs are a different compact foot as well. If the only batteries on your shelf are XGT, none of these twelve heads is the matching lamp, whatever the title lumen figure says.
Why do two watt numbers appear on one page?
Because some listings were not edited to one specification. The GZYZ 36-LED shows 85 W, 108 W and 100 W across the title, bullets and spec fields, with 6,500 and 5,400 lumens as well. Tumnatt shows 92 W and 95 W. When the page disagrees with itself, leave that watt figure out of the decision and use fit, review count, and whether you will remove the pack.
Is 4.6 from nine reviews better than 4.4 from 320?
No. Yikuneng's 4.6 comes from nine ratings, with three review texts in this check. Dorehouse's 4.4 comes from 320. A short file can be kind and still say nothing about a failure at two weeks. Read the count before you read the average, and treat a missing star line, as on the JADUFHU, as no evidence at all.
When should I leave this set and buy a DML?
When the lamp has to live on the job, when you want a mains lead, or when you want Makita's published modes rather than a seller lumen claim. The DML805 is the work-light shape, around £79 to £96 including VAT at the UK shops checked here. A £12 head remains a spare you can return if the shoe fails.
