Moss remover buying guide

Updated: October 2026

The green in the lawn and the green in the block paving are not the same job. A moss remover buying guide has to split them before a brand name is useful. On amazon.co.uk those products sit in one list, which is how a lawn box ends up on slabs or a path biocide ends up on grass. This page is the order of decisions: surface, then speed, then the kind of label, then whether the coverage number survives contact with the pack weight. Prices and the twelve listings sit on the [moss remover comparison](/hub/weed-control/moss-remover). The Products Compared editorial team used those amazon.co.uk captures, dated 19 October 2026, plus RHS and HSE pages. We did not run a lab test. Four moss removers, not one

In this set there are four types, and they do not substitute for each other. The only lawn product is Westland Moss Master, a 3.62 kg box of granules titled 80 m², at about £11.10, with 3.7 from 77 reviews. The bullets talk about no raking and no black moss. That is a lawn claim. It is not a patio treatment. The hard-surface liquids are Patio Blast 5 L at about £16.99, Wet & Forget 5 L at about £29.89, HG 1 L at about £8.35, and Resolva Moss Killer 1 L at about £8.99. Wet & Forget's listing names benzalkonium chloride and a 1:5 mix. HG is a concentrate whose bullets claim a result in about 36 hours when diluted. Patio Blast is spray-and-leave, and the scraped specification does not name an active. Resolva's coverage field says 10 m², and the scrape does not name the active or the surface, so the bottle decides. The manual brushes are the Sbestily, the Mitclear, the Dustpan and Brush Store brush, and the NuoDunco set, around £11.89 to £12.99. They scrape joints. They do not feed a lawn or change a damp corner. The electric brushes are the Ark Mat at 400 W and about £55.95, the LIGO 140 W at about £32.79, and the cordless LIGO at about £69.99. Plug type is not in these files. UK mains are 230 V with a BS 1363 plug, so an unstated plug is a check before you rely on an outdoor socket.

Choose by surface and by how fast you need it gone

Start with where the moss is living. If it is in the grass, the Royal Horticultural Society treats lawn moss as its own problem: you can leave it, you can scarify, and iron belongs only inside an approved mosskiller. Household vinegar, bleach, soap and baking soda are not lawn treatments. In this comparison that leaves Moss Master, and only if you will spread it evenly and do the rate maths below. If the lawn is the job, a patio bottle is the wrong shelf. Whether the growth is in the grass or on the slabs is the split on lawn moss killer or patio cleaner. If the moss is on slabs, decking, a drive or a path, you are choosing between a liquid you leave and a brush that clears the joint today. The RHS says brush hard surfaces first. Chemicals are optional, and growth returns if the surface stays damp and shaded. A wire brush or the Ark Mat finishes the look this weekend and does nothing about that shade. Wet & Forget is 1 part to 5 parts water and no rain for 4 to 5 hours, and reviewers who wanted a next-day result were disappointed. If you cannot kneel and you can wait, a liquid is the realistic tool. If the path has to be walkable on Saturday, a brush is. A roof, etched stone, or a drainage fault is where you stop and call someone. A suspected bat roost is the same stop. It is not a reason to buy a stronger mix.

Check the rate, not the hero number

Coverage claims in this set are marketing until you can divide pack size by a rate. Westland's fact sheet uses 100–150 g/m² where moss is the target, and 45–100 g/m² as a feed. The box on amazon.co.uk weighs 3.62 kg and the title says 80 m². At about 45 g/m², 3.62 kg is roughly 80 m². At 100 g/m² it is about 36 m², and at 150 g/m² it is about 24 m². That arithmetic uses the fact-sheet rates and the listed weight. It is not a trial of this box on a lawn. If you buy it for the moss rate and spread it over the titled 80 m², you are under-dosing relative to the sheet, which is the complaint hiding inside some of the 3.7-star reviews. Liquid claims need the same suspicion. Patio Blast's listing says up to 220 m² and up to nine months, and the spec block does not give a dilution. Wet & Forget claims 100–300 m² from 5 L at 1:5. HG claims up to 200 m² from 1 L when diluted, and about 36 hours. Resolva's field says 10 m² from 1 L. None of those figures was measured for this page. Do not copy a millilitre rate from a ferrous-sulphate product that is not in this set onto Moss Master or Resolva. On 19 October 2026 the shelf prices ran from about £8 to about £70: HG, Resolva, the Westland box and the manual brushes at the bottom, Patio Blast, Wet & Forget and the 140 W LIGO in the middle, and the Ark Mat and cordless LIGO at £56 to £70. A brush you will finish beats a liquid you judge the next morning.

What to leave on the shelf

Leave professional-only packs. The Health and Safety Executive is clear that garden pesticides for the public are amateur products, that you do not make a mix stronger than the label, and that professional-only biocides are not a householder bargain. A bigger bottle with a trade authorisation is the wrong saving. The original container and the rate on that container are the instructions that count. Leave household mixes. The RHS rejects vinegar, bleach, soap and baking soda as lawn moss killers, and bleach is a poor way to hurry a patio cleaner whose label already sets the dilution. Acid etches limestone and can mark sandstone. That is general guidance, not a lab test of these ASINs. On soft stone, brush first, and use a liquid only if that pack names the stone. Leave the swap. Iron lawn products blacken moss and stain paving if spilled. Ferromex, which is not an ASIN here, says wash iron off paving. Patio biocides are not lawn feeds. HG's plant line applies only when it is diluted correctly, and Wet & Forget is a hard-surface cleaner. Pets and ponds are covered on moss killer, pets and runoff. NuoDunco has no star rating, so it is not the default brush beside the Mitclear at the same £11.89 with 1,494 reviews.

Common questions

Do I have to get rid of lawn moss?
No. The RHS says moss can stay, and that scarifying or an approved mosskiller are choices rather than a duty. In this set the only lawn product is Westland Moss Master, and only if you can match the rate to the area.
Is a patio cleaner the same as a lawn moss killer?
No. A patio cleaner is for hard surfaces. A lawn moss killer is for grass. In this comparison Moss Master is the lawn box, and Patio Blast, Wet & Forget and HG are hard-surface liquids. Using one bottle on both is the mistake the lawn or patio page is written to stop. Resolva's listing does not state the surface, so you read the label before you decide.
When is a wire brush enough?
A wire brush is enough when the moss is in paving joints and you want it gone today. The Mitclear, Sbestily and Dustpan brushes are that tool, around £12 to £13. A brush is not enough when the lawn itself is mossy.
What does spray-and-leave actually wait for?
It waits for weather and biology, not for a rinse the same afternoon. Wet & Forget asks for 4 to 5 hours without rain, then days or weeks. Patio Blast reviewers talk about several days, not an instant clean. If you judge the patio the next morning, you will call a slow product a failure. A brush is the tool when the deadline is this weekend.
Why is a professional biocide not a bargain?
The HSE says the public should use amateur products and should not use professional-only biocides. A larger trade tub is the wrong authorisation for a garden, not a saving. Do not strengthen an amateur mix because the first pass looked slow.
