How to set up a steel wall pool

Updated: October 2026

The shell is heavy, the liner is a plastic sheet, and the first fill will show every dip in the ground. How to set up a steel wall pool, for the five amazon.co.uk shells on the [steel wall pool comparison](/hub/swimming-pools/steel-wall-pool), is the order of base, wall, liner and water. Listings were taken on 16 October 2026. There was no garden build and no laboratory test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The leaflet in your box overrides a general temperature. A recess stays on the [steel wall pool in the ground](/hub/swimming-pools/steel-wall-pool/sub/steel-wall-pool-in-ground) page.

The base these listings actually name

Only one listing names a base. The Summer Fun Grandy oval, B07Q7XN14K, recommends a stable concrete base plate. That oval is listed at 250 kg and 13,500 litres, with a title of 3.00 × 5.00 × 1.20 m and an attribute line of 5 × 1.2 × 1.2 m. Pouring to the wrong footprint wastes the concrete. Confirm the metres with the seller first, using the size check on the steel wall pool buying guide. The other four shells do not name a base. When a listing is silent, keep the ground level, firm and free of stones. Soft or sloping ground is a builder’s question before the wall goes up.

Wall before liner

Four listings set assembly required to Yes. The Grandy sets it to No. That field is not a pool that arrives full, and it is not a reason to skip the wall. A 250 kg oval with a steel sheath still has to be formed to the confirmed size. Follow the paper in the carton. The Summer Fun round sets assembly required to Yes. Its box lists rails, a 0.4 mm wall and a 0.4 mm film, at 200 kg. A bullet that mentions the ground is not a recess method, and this page does not describe one. Form the wall to the confirmed size, with the rails the box actually contains, before the liner is asked to hold water.

Liner temperature

No Summer Fun or Planet Pool UK setup PDF for these ASINs turned up, so the bullets do not state a temperature. About 20°C to 25°C is attributed to a Fluidra liner manual, and it is not printed on these five listings. 1st Direct Pools says postpone fitting below 10°C, and do not fit between 11:00 and 15:00 on hot sunny days. Allswim Ltd says a minimum outside air of about 10°C, and to avoid above about 24°C because the sheet can stretch under its own weight. Use the leaflet in that box if it names a temperature. If it is silent, stay out of frost and out of the hottest hours.

First fill and who you call

Start the fill only when the wall is closed and the liner is in place. A shallow layer is when you ease wrinkles. If that water runs to one side, stop and correct the ground. The Grandy’s 13,500 litres and the round’s 11,000 litres are not a hose you can ignore. The other three shells print no capacity. None of these listings includes a pump, and none states a voltage. A fixed pump is Part P work to BS 7671:2018. Call an electrician for that pump, and for the grounding set in the Planet Pool oval B09Q3NFKCM. Do not read a free-standing bullet as permission to dig. The manual in the carton wins if a step here differs.

Common questions

What has to be true of the ground before the wall goes up?
It has to match the base the listing names, and it has to be level. Only the Grandy oval recommends a stable concrete base plate. The other four do not name a base, so you do not pour a pad for them from that one bullet, and you do not put the Grandy on bare grass because another brand allows sand. Stones and a slope show up as soon as a shallow fill runs to one side.
Does assembly required No mean the oval arrives ready to fill?
No. That attribute is on B07Q7XN14K, a 250 kg listing with a steel sheath, 13,500 litres and a recommended concrete plate. Ready to fill would mean a wall already formed and a liner already hung. Neither is what the box list describes. The other four shells set assembly required to Yes. Follow the paper in the carton either way.
What goes wrong in full sun or in the cold?
In the cold the sheet stays stiff and will not take the shape of the floor. In full sun it can stretch, which Allswim describes above about 24°C, and a wrinkle pulled out at midday may not be the fit you want once it cools. 1st Direct tells you to check wrinkles under vacuum before you cut fittings. Cutting a skimmer hole in a sheet that has not settled is the step you cannot undo.
When do you stop and call a builder or an electrician?
Call an electrician before a fixed pump, and before you rely on the grounding set packed with the 1.50 m oval. Call a builder if the ground is soft, if you are pouring the Grandy’s plate while the size lines still disagree, or if the hole would sit next to a foundation. This page does not describe a recess. If the plan is to sink the shell, use the in-ground page before you dig.
