Best side awning

Updated: 22.10.2026

You want a short list of the best side awning, not a grid of sails and door hoods. In this comparison the kept amazon.co.uk listings are three colours of one 140 × 300 cm VOUNOT cassette and one 200 cm pressure-fit blind. That is the whole set a best claim can use. We read the fields and review notes behind the [side awning comparison](/hub/sun-shades/side-awning). There is no lab test. Colour is the last cut. The first cut is whether 140 cm and a drilled post match the way you sit.

What this shortlist can decide

It can tell you which mechanism fits a patio you may drill, and which fits a balcony you must not. It can tell you that brown, beige, and grey are one review pool. It cannot name the best 180 cm screen in the UK, because no 180 cm cassette was kept, and it cannot give a wind class, because none of the four states BS EN 13561. A search snapshot showed a VOUNOT 160 × 300 cm grey at £64.99 and a CASARIA 180 × 300 cm at £82.99 with 4.2 from 667. A higher price does not make CASARIA better. We have not assessed it. A later search showed the blind at £62.99, against about £54.92 in the raw file. Use the live page. Measure the gap first in the side awning buying guide.

The 140 cm cassettes, and who should skip them

Brown, beige, and grey share 4.5 from 4,655 amazon.co.uk reviews and the same UK review text. Praise is an easy fit, seated privacy, and a wind break. Complaints that recur are thin see-through cloth, rust at the post base, weak supplied screws, a bracket that is not square, and a strong spring rewind. If you can drill and the gap is within 3 metres, any of the three is the same kind of screen. Brown is where title, bullets, and projection agree on 300 cm by 140 cm, at 7.98 kg, which is why it is the top pick. Beige is the same reviews at about £59.99 and 8.5 kg, with an assembly field that says No while the reviews still describe screws. Grey is about £56.30 and 7.5 kg. The title says 300 cm and the technical projection says 2.1 m. The lower price is useful only after you confirm the length. Two 3 metre cassettes add length. They do not add height.

The balcony blind, and when to leave the set

B0FZ8QH9LZ is 200 cm wide, with poles from 220 cm to 310 cm, and it claims a pressure fit without drilling. The cloth is 180 g/m² polyester with a PU coating, for UV and light rain, with no wind class. You wind it with a hand crank. At about £54.92 it is not a cheaper 3 metre cassette. The score is 4.3 from 165, and the first 50 written reviews are not labelled United Kingdom. Reviews say two people are often needed to place the poles. One called the pressure fit unstable. At 310 cm the crank is too short without a step, and the cloth can bow in wind. Buy it when a soffit sits in that band and the lease lets you load it. Skip it on an open patio or for a 3 metre side gap.

Which of these four you should buy

Buy a cassette if you sit, the gap is within 3 metres, and you can bolt the post into masonry or a structural frame. Brown is the top pick when the size fields agree. Grey is the lower raw price only after you resolve 300 cm against 2.1 m. The vertical blind needs a soffit, so it is the wrong shape for an open patio. Leave the set when 140 cm will not cover you standing. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Common questions

Does grey beat brown because it costs less?
Not by itself. Grey is about £56.30 in the raw file and brown is about £59.99, and they share 4.5 from 4,655. Grey's technical fields also say 2.1 m, which the title contradicts. If the screen that arrives is 300 cm, the few pounds matter less than the shared review text. If it is the 2.1 m figure, you have not bought a 3 metre screen. Check the live page before you treat the lower price as the better buy.
Is the 4.5 real for each colour?
The number is real as an amazon.co.uk parent line, and it is not three tests. Brown, beige, and grey show 4.5 from 4,655 and the same UK review text. Use it once. Many buyers found the pattern easy to fit and useful for seated privacy, and a smaller group reported thin cloth, rust, weak screws, and a fierce rewind. Do not add the counts together.
When is the vertical blind the better buy?
When you have a floor and a soffit between 220 cm and 310 cm, you must not drill, and 200 cm of width is enough. That is B0FZ8QH9LZ. It is a worse buy on an open patio, for a 3 metre gap, or when you want UK-labelled written reviews. The 165 ratings are the listing line. The written sample we saw was not labelled United Kingdom.
Should you leave this set and buy 180 cm?
Leave when 140 cm will not cover you standing. Snapshot prices for 160–180 cm screens started around £64.99, and a CASARIA 180 × 300 cm was £82.99 with 4.2 from 667. That does not make CASARIA the winner. It is a different height we have not reviewed. You still need a solid fixing, and you still retract in strong wind, because a taller title is not a wind class.
Is there a test winner?
No laboratory winner. Nothing here was in a lab, and nothing states a wind class. The top pick is a practical cut: brown, because the size fields agree and the shared UK reviews describe the use. Grey is the lower cassette price, with the 2.1 m conflict in the same breath. The sources do not support a lab-winner claim for either colour.
