Party tent buying guide

Updated: 22.10.2026

You have a date and a lawn, and amazon.co.uk calls the same shelter a gazebo, a marquee or a party tent. This party tent buying guide is the check before you open a row on the [party tent comparison](/hub/sun-shades/party-tent): the footprint, the fabric words, the walls, and what the box actually contains. Shelf prices on 19 October 2026 run from about £45.98 to about £160.49, plus an inflatable at about £720.31. The Products Compared editorial team read the twelve listings and their review files. What you are actually buying

In this set a party tent is a temporary shelter. Nine listings are pop-ups. The Outsunny at about £45.98 is 2 x 2 m and 4 m², and it asks for two or three people. The VOUNOT 3 x 3 m models are 9 m². Three listings are pole tents. The black Outsunny is about 5.85 x 2.95 m and asks for three or four people. The WUHUWOO at about £720.31 is an inflatable with a 950 W blower, and the plug is not stated as BS 1363. A title that says 6 x 3 m is not always that size on the ground. The frame split is on the pop-up versus pole frame page.

How much ground you need

The 2 x 2 m is 4 m² with a 196 cm door: a few chairs, not a dining table. A 3 x 3 m is 9 m². Gala Tent's rule of thumb, not a test of these tents, is about 1.5 m² seated, so a clear 3 x 3 m is about six seated. The VOUNOT 3 x 6 m pop-up is 18 m². The pole tents are shorter than a full 6 x 3 m. Outsunny lists 17.2 m². The blue SANHENG page prints 176.85 m² for the same metres, so use the metre line.

Fabric words and side walls

Waterproof, water resistant and water repellent are different sentences. The 2 x 2 m says water resistant and light rain. The grey VOUNOT 3 x 3 m spec says water repellent at 160 g/m². The arched white VOUNOT at about £68.39 prints waterproof at 1,200 Pa and UPF 50+. The 260 g/m² model says fully waterproof, then says pooled rain can break the frame. House of Tents treats polyethylene as occasional and PVC as heavier on its own marquees. Do not paste that shop's tear figures onto these listings. Four panels are typical on a 3 x 3 m VOUNOT, and six on the long VOUNOT. Walls block a shower and they add sail.

What has to be in the box

A photo of sandbags is not ballast. VOUNOT boxes list bags, pegs and ropes, and they do not say the sand is included. UK reviews on the arched tent call the bags small, even after a buyer added sand. SANHENG bullets omit pegs, ropes and weights, and one UK delivery arrived without them. The Outsunny pole tent includes 12 pegs and six ropes, and no weight bags. The 2 x 2 m includes ropes, stakes and a carry bag, and no bags of sand. Pegs need soil. They do not hold in concrete.

If you will be there to watch

The bullets assume somebody is watching. The small Outsunny says not to leave it in heavy weather. The pole Outsunny says never leave it overnight. If you only need a few chairs and light rain, start at 4 m². If you need a table, start at 9 m² and read the water line. Two tables also means more hands. Who each strong row suits is on the best party tent page.

Common questions

Is a 3 x 3 m enough for a table and chairs?
One UK review on the grey VOUNOT says a table and chairs fit under a 3 x 3 m. A second table uses the spare. The 2 x 2 m is a few chairs, not that dining set. Two tables point you at the 18 m² pop-up, which also needs more hands.
When is a 3 x 6 m worth the extra hands?
When the lawn is long and you have about three or four adults. The Outsunny pole tent states that crew, and UK reviews of the VOUNOT 3 x 6 m talk about four people. That pop-up is about £160.49, against about £70 for the pole tent. Without the crew, stay at 3 x 3 m.
What does 160 g/m² mean next to a PE sheet?
It is the polyester weight printed on several VOUNOT roofs, not a rain test. The 260 g/m² sheet is heavier, and that page still warns that pooled rain can break the frame. PE on the pole tents is a different material. Plan around the light-rain bullet on the Outsunny PE tent.
Does waterproof on the title match the spec line?
Often it does not. The 160 g/m² grey and white specs say water repellent. The black 3 x 6 m bullet says waterproof and the coverage line says water-resistant. The inflatable lines also conflict. The arched model is the row that prints 1,200 Pa. Trust the spec block you are relying on.
Why are two colours not two review tests?
Grey and black VOUNOT 3 x 6 m listings share 4.0 from 394 and overlapping text. Grey and blue SANHENG listings share 3.2 from 180 and the same joint complaints. Adding the counts double-counts one sample. The inflatable's 4.4 from 32 is on amazon.co.uk, and the saved texts are marked United States.
Can I leave it up, and does the 28-day rule cover my garden?
Class B allows a moveable structure for not more than 28 days a year, and not inside the curtilage of a house, so a house garden is outside that allowance. These listings still forbid heavy weather, overnight use or leaving the tent unattended. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are not the English order.
