How to look after an outdoor bean bag

Updated: 21 October 2026

How to look after an outdoor bean bag depends on what is inside. Beads, foam and air do not fail in the same way, and a waterproof title is not an all-summer instruction. On 19 October 2026 the Products Compared editorial team used the four amazon.co.uk listings in this set, plus care pages from UK brands, not a wash test of our own. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The chairs are on the [outdoor bean bag comparison](/hub/sun-loungers/outdoor-bean-bag). What the weather words allow is on [waterproof outdoor bean bag](/hub/sun-loungers/outdoor-bean-bag/sub/outdoor-bean-bag-garden-rain).

Bring a textile seat under cover

Elephant Living's care guide says a shower is fine and a downpour means you bring the seat in. Oxford Beanbags tell owners not to leave their outdoor bags out overnight as a habit. Sit&Joy say their warranty is void if a seat is left out all summer. That is Sit&Joy's term, not UK law, and it is not printed on the LAZY BAG or the Pamapic. Lift the LAZY BAG, which is 5 kg, onto a dry hard surface and leave the zip covered. The Pamapic is 19.6 kg, so plan the lift. UK reviews of the Intex still describe leaks from seams and valves. The Intex field says indoor.

Wash only what the listing allows

Wash a cover only where the listing names a cycle. The LAZY BAG bullet says the nylon cover unzips and machine washes at 30 degrees. Empty the beads into the inner sack first, or you will wash polystyrene. The file does not give a tumble setting, so dry the cover flat before the beads go back. A damp liner next to EPS is how a seat starts to smell. The Pamapic cover is removable and machine washable, and no temperature is printed. Stop if the cloth reacts. Vinyl on the Intex and the OJMHD is a wipe with a damp cloth, not a wash cycle. The buying checks are on the outdoor bean bag buying guide.

Flat beads, slow air, foam that will not loft

A bead seat goes flat because the fill has compressed or escaped. Do not order 250 litres from the LAZY BAG title as a measured refill. If the liner has split, keep children away from loose beads. The Intex has no pump in the box. The OJMHD box includes the electric pump and a deflate port. Do not open a damaged mains pump. Valves versus beads are on inflatable bean bag vs bean bag. One Pamapic review said the seat took three days to loft after a vacuum pack. If it is still a fraction of the listing, that is a quality problem, not a care step you failed.

Winter storage

Dry the seat completely, then store it. Elephant Living's sequence is the one to copy in spirit: dry fully before winter, off the soil, out of a shut damp shed if the cloth is still wet. Leave the LAZY BAG unzipped until the inner bag is no longer cool to the touch, then close it. Deflate the Intex and the OJMHD, and use the storage bag the Intex includes. Keep the chairs off bare concrete that sweats. If the chair failed as soon as you used it, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you 30 days to reject goods that are not of satisfactory quality. A child who has inhaled beads needs urgent care, not a care guide.

Common questions

Can I leave it out overnight?
Not as a habit. Oxford Beanbags say that about their own outdoor bags. Elephant Living allow a shower and want the seat in for a downpour. A waterproof line on the LAZY BAG bullet does not overturn that. Vinyl may sit out for an evening and still puncture, which is a different problem. If the forecast is a wet night, bring a textile seat under cover before you go to bed.
How do I wash a removable cover?
The LAZY BAG bullet names 30 degrees for the nylon cover. Keep the beads out of the machine. The Pamapic says machine washable and prints no temperature, so you do not have a listed cycle to follow. Dry the cover fully before the fill goes back. Do not tumble-dry on a setting the listing never gave. Vinyl chairs are a wipe, not a wash.
What if the beads get wet?
Get the water out and dry the liner before you close the zip for storage. A damp inner bag against EPS is how the seat starts to smell, and the listings here do not tell you the beads are washable. If the liner has opened, keep children away from loose beads and photograph the damage. Topping up is for a seat that has simply gone flat, not for a split bag you have not dried.
How do I inflate the Intex if there is no pump?
The bullets say a bicycle pump or an air compressor. Nothing in the box is a pump. Several chambers mean you are there for a while, which matches UK reviews of a long inflate. An older Practical Caravan review found even a 12 V pump slow, and the seat very low. The OJMHD pair is the listing in this set that includes an electric pump with a UK plug. Do not take a damaged mains pump apart.
The OJMHD went down overnight. Is that care or a fault?
Topping up with the included pump is the care the reviews describe. A chair that is soft by morning may still be a slow valve rather than a failed seam. If it arrives unable to hold air, or a seam splits in the first weeks, treat that as a fault and look at the 30-day right to reject. The review file is 37 people, so both outcomes appear. One flat morning does not prove the listing.
