How to inflate a pool hammock

Updated: October 2026

The float is out of the bag beside a garden pool, and the temptation is to pump until the vinyl rings like a drum. How to inflate a pool hammock is knowing when to stop, then getting on without a jump, then drying it before the suitcase. This page is the method for a mesh hammock or a vinyl lounger you already own. The [floating lounger comparison](/hub/sun-loungers/floating-lounger) is where the models sit. The Products Compared editorial team used the amazon.co.uk listings of 15 October 2026 and maker guides for the fill rule. There was no pressure test. Firm, not rigid

Stop when the chamber is firm and still gives under a thumb. That is a rule of thumb from maker guides, not a measured pressure on any row here, and no PSI figure belongs on this page. Vinyl that is drum-tight has nowhere to go when the sun warms the air. If the float sits in hot sun, let a little air out rather than topping it harder. Unfold it on a surface without sharp edges or grit. Open the valve. Fill with a hand pump, a foot pump, or a slow electric pump kept away from the water, and close the valve while the chamber still gives. One UK brand guide allows the mouth as well. A different manual, for a product not in this set, forbids the mouth, a compressor, and a compressed-air bottle. These listings do not settle that split, so mouth inflation is not the method for the set. Leave a compressor in the shed. A float that was right at 9am can feel tight by early afternoon. Release a little air. Do not chase the morning shape by adding more. Two air chambers, where a listing mentions them, still will not save a non-swimmer. They are not a lifejacket.

What the box does and does not include

Read the included line before you assume a pump is there. Hutato's packing bullet names a pump, and the count is unstable: the title says two or three, a bullet says three hammocks and one pump, and one United Kingdom review describes two. Gotof's included line names one hand pump with two hammocks, while the title says a 3 pack. Hitopin names two mini pumps and has 4.6 from 3 reviews with no written text. Wudyfei's spec does not name a pump, and reviews say one broke within minutes. UMUACCAN's included line says no. Alintor, Bestway 43028, HeySplash, LATERN, and COSORO do not name one. HUANYO does not state a pump. A mini pump is often the part United Kingdom reviews complain about. That is a listing fact, not a ranking. If the listing does not name a pump, use your own and keep any electrical pump away from the pool edge. If reviews of that row say the supplied pump failed, treat it as absent. Choosing a listing that names a pump is the best floating lounger page. LATERN describes a dual nozzle and no pump. One United Kingdom review says that pizza raft took a lot of breaths. Bring a pump for a 180 × 150 cm raft, and stop while it still gives. HeySplash is 210 × 128 cm in the bullets and does not name a pump.

Getting on without jumping

Board in water you can stand in, with your weight centred, and do not jump. From the pool edge, move onto the mesh slowly. A partner can hold the far side. A leg-swing from a US sketch is not a test of the 127 × 70 cm Hutato. If it tips, your feet should still reach the floor. A solid lounger or a tanning raft sits higher. Climb on from the side in the same depth, keep your weight in the middle, and do not stand or walk on the raft. Walking the air out is advice for some other inflatables. It is a good way to split a seam here. Bestway's cup holder does not change the entry. HeySplash's width does not make a jump safer. A capable adult watches a home pool, which is the RLSS UK line. At a public pool, large inflatables can block a lifeguard's sightline, and the operator decides under HSE's HSG179. Open water is the inflatable lounger pool or sea page, not a longer version of this method.

Dry it, then pack it

Rinse with fresh water, dry the vinyl and the mesh out of prolonged sun, then deflate by hand through the valve. Do not stand on the lounger to chase the last of the air, and do not use harsh chemicals. A mesh hammock folds more easily than a raft of 180 to 210 cm. Hutato's United Kingdom reviews say it packs more easily than a full lilo, with no folded size printed. HeySplash at 210 × 128 cm is the wrong shape if the suitcase was the point. If the float will not hold air on arrival, or a seam is already split, complain to the retailer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 9. A hole from jumping may not be the same fault. A review that a supplied pump broke is not a repair procedure. Stop when the problem is no longer the valve. A non-swimmer does not use the raft as their only flotation. If someone is in trouble at the coast, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard. The sea page holds the flags.

Common questions

How full should a pool hammock be?
Fill it until the tube is firm and still gives under your thumb, then close the valve. That is a rule of thumb from maker guides, not a pressure test of these listings, and there is no PSI number. If the float sits in hot sun, let a little air out rather than pumping harder. Drum-tight vinyl has no room when the air expands. A slightly wavy line comes from a manual that is not this product, so do not treat it as a gauge.
Can I use a compressor or an electric pump?
Leave a compressor and a compressed-air bottle alone. An electric pump can be used slowly, away from the water, and stopped while the chamber still gives. A hand or foot pump is the safer default if you are unsure. These listings do not agree on mouth inflation, because they barely mention it, so that is not the method for the set. Close the valve when you stop. Heat later in the day is a reason to release air, not to top the float up harder.
The box has a mini pump. Should I trust it?
Trust it only as far as that listing's reviews. Hutato and Gotof name a pump, with pack counts that do not match the title. Hitopin names two mini pumps and has three reviews with no written text. Wudyfei's United Kingdom reviews say a pump broke within minutes. Alintor, Bestway 43028, and HeySplash do not name a pump. If you are not sure, use a separate hand or foot pump. A failed pump is a reason to complain or to use your own, not a poolside repair.
How do I get onto a mesh hammock without tipping it?
Use water you can stand in. From the pool edge, move your weight onto the mesh slowly and keep it centred. A partner can hold the far side. Do not jump, and do not treat a blog's leg-swing as a test of a 127 × 70 cm hammock. You lie in the water, so a tip is a wet surprise rather than a fall onto vinyl, provided your feet reach the floor. If you cannot stand, this is the wrong float to learn on.
How do I get onto a solid lounger?
Climb on from the side in standing depth, with your weight in the middle, and do not jump. A Bestway-style lounger or a HeySplash-sized raft holds more air and sits higher than a mesh hammock, so the same slow entry matters more. Do not stand or walk on the raft to move it or to push air out. The backrest and the cup holder are not handles for a leap. If the pool forbids large inflatables, the operator's rule wins.
It arrived split. Is that my fault?
A seam split on arrival, or a float that will not hold air before you use it, is a fault to raise with the retailer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 9. A puncture from jumping, or from a sharp edge, may not be the same fault. Dry the mesh completely before a suitcase, and do not assume a repair patch is in the box unless that bullet names one.
