Safe for passports and documents UK

Updated: October 2026

You need a place for two passports and a will, and another tab says the box is fireproof. A safe for passports and documents UK is two purchases wearing one name. A passport wallet needs a bolted box it fits. Paper that must survive a fire needs a named EN 15659 model. BSI’s page for BS EN 15659:2019 says protection after the test period is not ensured. The listings in our [furniture safe comparison](/hub/safes-and-secure-storage/furniture-safe) do not show that certificate. Peter F., DIY & tools editor, wrote this on 17 October 2026 from those listings. There was no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Passports versus paper that must survive heat

A bolted cupboard box slows someone looking for a passport. It does nothing you can quote in a fire. EN 15659 is the light fire storage test for paper, limited to the tested period. It is not a test for hard drives. The Chubbsafes HomeSafe S2 30P, which is not in this set, pairs EN 14450 S2 with EN 15659 for about 30 minutes for documents. Burton’s £6,000 cash and £60,000 valuables figures belong to the Burton Home Safe Size 1, not to a HomeSafe HV38K. If the paper must be readable after a fire, leave this set. Grade and litres are the buying guide. Who each box is for is the best furniture safe page.

What fits a passport in this set

Reviewers use the Yale, listed at 8.6 litres, for passports, cards and a little cash. The attribute table and the chamber height do not agree, so use the smaller reading. An unfolded A4 envelope is a different object. The QWORK is listed at 3.5 litres, and UK reviews say it holds a passport, money and a will. The title and the size table disagree by several centimetres. Order it for a wallet you have measured, not for a stack of unfolded letters. The HomeSafe HV38K claims 41 litres and is still too shallow for box files. The lock is a separate choice, on key or electronic.

A4 and the floor safe

The Brihard listing that says A4 gives an internal size of 17 × 36 × 22 cm and 13.5 litres. The attribute table gives 13 litres and an outside of 26 × 42 × 18 cm. Do not average them. A4 paper is 210 × 297 mm. A ring folder is taller than the sheet. 13.5 litres does not mean the folder stands up. Do not use the 4.6 from 291 reviews to settle the fit. That block matches the 4 litre Brihard. If you need flat A4, buy only when you can return the box if the opening is short. There is no fire certificate in the bullets.

Fire words on these listings

The QWORK title says fire retardant. The file has no EN 15659 certificate and no minute class. A review that calls the phrase a bonus does not create a test. Keep a replaceable passport there if you bolt it. Do not keep the only will there because the title sounded protective. The AltiKeep claims an A4 pouch of about 33.5 × 24 cm. There is no EN 15659 certificate for the bag or the box. UK reviews repeatedly say the bag was not in the carton, and several say the bolts or the emergency pack were missing. Section 11 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 is the route when the goods do not match the description. A missing bag is not fire protection. HomeSafe HV38K, ASIN B07QGCFSQL, has no fire claim in the bullets. It is not the Chubbsafes HomeSafe. A signed will with no second copy needs A4 space and, if it must survive a fire, a certified EN 15659 cabinet.

Common questions

Will passports be safe in a furniture safe during a fire?
They are harder to steal if the box is bolted down. They do not have a tested chance in a fire unless the model is certified to EN 15659 for paper, for a stated time. These listings do not show that certificate. BSI notes that protection is not ensured after the test period. For a passport you can replace, a bolted hide can still be the control against theft. For the only copy of a will, it is not a fire plan.
Which listing actually says A4?
The Brihard floor safe with A4 in the title gives an internal size of 17 × 36 × 22 cm, beside an outside of 26 × 42 × 18 cm and a capacity of 13.5 litres in one place and 13 litres in another. The AltiKeep claims an A4 pouch of about 33.5 × 24 cm, and reviewers often do not receive it. The word documents on a title is not a measured opening.
Is the HomeSafe HV38K the Chubbsafes HomeSafe?
No. The Chubbsafes HomeSafe S2 30P is a certified cabinet with EN 14450 S2 and EN 15659 for about 30 minutes for documents. The HomeSafe HV38K is ASIN B07QGCFSQL, a key-lock cabinet with no fire claim in the bullets. Do not copy the Burton Home Safe’s £6,000 cash and £60,000 valuables figures onto the HV38K.
The QWORK title says fire retardant. Is that a rating?
No. It is a phrase in the title. The listing file has no EN 15659 certificate and no minute class. A review that calls the wording a bonus does not create a test. Treat the QWORK as a 3.5 litre key box for theft, with two outside sizes that disagree.
What if the fireproof bag is not in the box?
If the AltiKeep listing promised the bag, section 11 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires the goods to match the description. Ask the seller for the bag or a refund. Do not guess that the safe itself is fireproof. The file has no certificate for the bag or the body. The same section covers missing bolts and a missing emergency pack.
