DeWalt jigsaw buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You already own a DeWalt 18V pack, or you are about to buy the first one, and amazon.co.uk is mixing genuine bare units with saws that only say they are compatible with DeWalt. A DeWalt jigsaw buying guide has to separate those before it talks about handles. The three listings in our [DeWalt jigsaw comparison](/hub/power-saws/de-walt-jigsaw) are bare brushless tools from £164.84 to £221.41, with no battery and no charger in the box. This page is the checklist: brand, what is missing, the 20V MAX label, then handle and case. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We did not run a lab test.

What counts as a DeWalt jigsaw on amazon.co.uk

Start with the brand field and the model code, not a title that says compatible with DeWalt. Nine of twelve files were other brands at about £33.99 to £48.99. They may accept a DeWalt pack. They are not the DCS334 or the DCS335, and a yellow photo is not the test. The three that stay are the DCS334B at £164.84, the DCS335N-XJ at £179.00, and the DCS335NT-XJ at £221.41. Rank moves. The model code does not. Every one is still a bare unit. The conditional pick is on best DeWalt jigsaw.

Bare unit, battery, and the 20V MAX label

None of the three boxes includes a battery or a charger. The DCS334B names a metal shoe. The DCS335N-XJ requires one lithium-ion battery. The DCS335NT-XJ case still has neither battery nor charger. You need an 18V XR pack and a UK charger on a BS 1363 plug for 230 V mains. A US 120 V charger is not that plug. The DCS334B listing says 20V MAX. DeWalt’s note says 20 V is the maximum initial voltage with no load, and the nominal voltage is 18 V. A trade seller has shown a 2 × 5.0 Ah kit at £325.95. That is not an amazon.co.uk price.

Handle, case, and the three listings

Both saws share a 26 mm stroke and 135 mm in wood, 25 mm in aluminium and 10 mm in steel. DeWalt UK calls the DCS334 the top-handle version of the DCS335. Only the DCS335N-XJ bullets say body grip. The DCS334B does not name a handle. It states a variable-speed trigger, and the code is the US bare tool, not DCS334N-XJ. The DCS335N-XJ runs from 1000 to 3200 strokes a minute: the dial sets the speed and the switch runs at that speed. The DCS335NT-XJ at £221.41 adds a T-STAK case, about £42, and the bullets do not say body grip. How the grips feel is on the top handle or body grip page.

Depth, orbital, and the blade

Use the manual for depth, not the Amazon wattage. The 2000 W line on the DCS334B is not corroborated. Both saws take T-shank blades only. Orbital positions 1 to 3 are for soft wood and plastic, not metal or hardwood. The shoe bevels to 45° and will not tilt while a dust shroud is fitted. The blower clears the line and does not capture dust. At work, HSE’s limits are 5 mg/m³ for softwood dust and 3 mg/m³ for hardwood, and both models declare 85 dB(A), an emission rather than a daily dose. The first cut is on how to use a DeWalt jigsaw.

Common questions

Does a DeWalt jigsaw come with a battery?
No, not on these three amazon.co.uk listings. The DCS334B title says bare tool only and names a metal shoe. The DCS335N-XJ requires one lithium-ion battery and does not include it. The DCS335NT-XJ case is stated without a battery or charger. You still need an 18V XR pack and a UK charger, on a BS 1363 plug for 230 V mains, before the shelf price is the cost of cutting.
Is 20V MAX a different system from 18V XR?
The DCS334B listing says 20V MAX. DeWalt’s voltage note treats 20 V as the maximum initial voltage with no load, and the nominal voltage as 18 V. The manual lists the DCS334 at 18 V DC, the same nominal voltage as the DCS335. Do not read 20V MAX as a more powerful motor. The 2000 W line on that Amazon page is not corroborated.
Which model is the top handle and which is the body grip?
DeWalt UK calls the DCS334 the top-handle version and the DCS335 the body grip. In this comparison only the DCS335N-XJ listing says body grip. The DCS334B listing does not name the handle, though it states a variable-speed trigger and a dial, and the code is the US bare tool rather than DCS334N-XJ. The DCS335NT-XJ bullets also omit the words body grip.
What does the extra money on the DCS335NT buy?
On these captured prices the DCS335NT-XJ is £221.41 and the DCS335N-XJ is £179.00, about £42 more. The included-components line says a T-STAK case without a battery or charger. Stroke, bevel and the manual depths do not change with the case. Buy it when you want the case. Leave it when you only need the bare saw.
Can it cut metal, and how thick?
The manual publishes 10 mm in steel and 25 mm in aluminium, with wood at 135 mm. Those are capacity figures for the stated conditions, not a promise for every blade. Orbital action should be off for metal and for hardwood. One DCS334B review ran into blade length on a deeper cut, which is a blade limit rather than a larger motor.
Why are there £40 DeWalt jigsaws in the search?
In this category’s raw pull, the listings around £33.99 to £48.99 were other brands whose titles said they were compatible with DeWalt. They are not the DCS334 or the DCS335. A compatible saw does not inherit DeWalt’s vibration declaration or the XR registration guarantee. Judge the brand field and the model code before you compare the price.
