Patio gas or a gas cartridge BBQ

Updated: 16.10.2026

The shed has a green cylinder, the camping box has a mix of cans, and the titles all say gas. Patio gas or a gas cartridge BBQ is a valve decision. Choose the green cylinder when the box includes a 27 mm propane clip and you will cook in the garden. Choose a named cartridge when the grill is built for it and you will carry it. Do not mix a Campingaz click with an EN 417 screw. Models are on the [tabletop gas BBQ comparison](/hub/portable-grills/tabletop-gas-bbq). Products Compared, 16 October 2026. No lab cook. When a green patio cylinder is the right supply

Calor’s bottle guide describes Patio Gas as green propane on a 27 mm clip. Red propane uses a different regulator. Blue butane uses another. A 5 kg Patio Gas cylinder is Calor’s guide for barbecues with up to three burners. Both CosmoGrills say a propane regulator and hose, at £119.99 and 10 kg. The George Foreman says a UK hose, at £125. One CosmoGrill review swapped to a blue butane regulator. The hose in the box is the wrong clip if your bottle is blue. Onlyfire says propane and does not name the regulator. If you already own the green cylinder, use a listing that names the hose, and only if the plate accepts 37 mbar propane. The checklist is the buying guide.

When a cartridge is the right supply

A cartridge wins when you will carry the grill and you can name the can first. The Party Grill bullets specify the CV 470 Plus, 145 g/h, not included. At 3.3 kg it suits two to four people, and it is the wrong grill if you want the green cylinder. Weber’s UK page limits the Go-Anywhere to an EN 417 cartridge, 80 per cent butane and 20 per cent propane, at 2.1 kW. The amazon.co.uk bullets do not name that can. A CV 470 Plus will not screw on. Dual gas on an O-Grill title is not both a CV 470 Plus and an EN 417 can.

Adapters are a second purchase

An adapter lets a cartridge grill use a patio cylinder, and it is easy to underprice. BBQ World lists Weber part 8482 as a 27 mm hose for the Go-Anywhere and some Q models. swbbqs.co.uk shows £53.09. That is the shop’s price, not an amazon.co.uk price, and not the reviewer’s £55. You still need the 37 mbar clip the plate expects, and a hose in date. Class 1 tubing under BS EN 16436-1 expires. Do not tape a hose from a drawer. Forcing a patio hose onto the Party Grill’s click collar is a good way to crack the plastic lug.

Which to buy if you only do one of these jobs

If the green 5 kg cylinder is already stored outside, buy a grill that names a propane hose and confirm the 27 mm clip. In this set that is a CosmoGrill or the George Foreman, not the Party Grill or the Go-Anywhere. Check the hose can reach a cylinder standing to the side. If you cook for two to four people away from the house, the Party Grill at £56.01 plus CV 470 Plus cartridges is the match. If you want EN 417 cans, use the Go-Anywhere. A cartridge still does not make a balcony legal. Who the score puts first is on best tabletop gas BBQ.

Common questions

Patio gas or a cartridge for a garden table?
Patio gas, if the grill includes a 27 mm propane clip and you already keep a green cylinder. Calor’s 5 kg size is their guide for up to three burners, not a measured runtime. The CosmoGrill and Foreman listings name a hose. The Party Grill names a CV 470 Plus.
Will a CV 470 Plus fit a Weber Go-Anywhere?
No. The CV 470 Plus is an Easy Clic collar. Weber’s UK page for the gas Go-Anywhere specifies an EN 417 screw cartridge, 80 per cent butane and 20 per cent propane. The amazon.co.uk bullets do not print that limit. Do not cross-thread a click cartridge onto a screw stub.
Will an EN 417 screw can fit a Party Grill?
No. The Party Grill bullets name the CV 470 Plus. A screw can has no Easy Clic collar. One review used a CV300, the same click family in a smaller size, for about two hours. That is not an EN 417 result. The cartridge is not inside the £56.01 shelf price.
I have a blue butane cylinder. Which regulator is that?
The butane clip for that blue valve, near 28–30 mbar, not the green Patio Gas clip near 37 mbar. Calor treats them as different regulators. One CosmoGrill owner fitted a blue butane regulator in place of the propane one in the box. Copy that only if the data plate allows butane.
Is £53 the amazon.co.uk price of a Weber adapter?
No. swbbqs.co.uk has shown £53.09, and one Weber Q reviewer priced an adapter at about £55. Neither figure is a live amazon.co.uk price in this comparison. Check the hose date and the pressure on the plate before you add it.
Why do the O-Grill bullets say dual gas?
They use the words and do not name a UK cylinder, cartridge, hose or regulator. On the O-Grill 500, Vine reviews say a screw canister, and one says a click cartridge does not fit. Dual gas is not a promise that both a CV 470 Plus and an EN 417 can will fit.
When is a cartridge the better buy?
When you cook occasionally, you can carry about 3 to 5 kg, and you have nowhere legal to store a patio cylinder. GOV.UK says cylinders live outside, not under the stairs. A CV 470 Plus on the Party Grill, or an EN 417 can on the Go-Anywhere, avoids that store. A cartridge does not make a balcony legal.
